I want to get Butters and Jordan somehow.
My gut was telling me all preseason ''listen to the word out of PA'' but in the end I went for the 70k saving on Phillips.
Now the 163 score is gone which might be his biggest of the year, but I agree he is likely to be a solid fwd premo.
Is it just me who builds up a hard-to-overcome-aversion to trading in players who have just gone gangbusters?
2 massive wins. Won't continue. He's still affordable for what he could return for the rest of the year but what can he return is the question.
@Rowsus has a very good way of working this out so I might leave the maths to him. But if you think he's become a 105 player you now have to deduct his first 2 scores to give you an idea of what remains. You might still get a decent player but it won't be the player you've watched in the first 2 rounds.
If you believe Butters can be a 22/105 Fwd this season, which is a lot harder task than it sounds, then he'll go 20/102.5 from here.
As
@freowho pointed out, those 2 scores came from playing against North and Essendon, likely to be 2 of the easiest teams for a Half Forward to score against this year. When doing the post game analysis, they showed a clip where Butters kicked his goal. He started in the centre at a stoppage (not a Centre Bounce, I think). He had 3 bombers surrounding him, and he ran 80 metres (not in a straight line) to get the ball in the Fwd 50m, about 25m from goal. The 3 Bombers that surrounded him weren't within 20-25m of him, when he got the ball. The point is, not many teams are going to let you run that free. He's already played 2 of the teams are likely to let you do it. There are maybe 4 easy teams for a player like him to score against, say 8 "neutral" teams, and 5 tough teams. Port play Ade, Carl, Coll, StK and Wbull twice. If his draw started at: 5 easy, 10 so-so and 7 tough games for him to score well, then he now has had 2 of those 5 easy games!
The thing is Butters is dominating as a high half forward pretty incredible scoring, only attended 7/31 centre bounces on the weekend, will be interesting if he's as dominant with Rozee coming back into the side.
I have no doubt, that once Rozee is back, and fit, he will have some sort of affect on Butter's SC scoring.
It was the centre bounce numbers that put me off in the preseason, he wasn't getting any!
I just couldn't see how he could go 100 without attending CB's, now that he is at least getting some (probably slowing building him up) is a positive, even if Butters throws out plenty of 80's and 90's the odd big score here and there could still see him land in the top 6-8 fwds.
Have no idea how Rozee affects him tbh.
Keep in mind, when you trade a player in, you are not looking for him to be (in this case) a top 6-8 Fwd, you are looking for him to be a top 6-8 Fwd, from the point in the season you traded him in, until the end. It's no good trading a player in, and getting to the end of the season, and saying "he finished the number 5 Fwd", if he was the number 12 Fwd for the period he was in your team!
