Bailey absolutely stitched up by CD and the umps 3 weeks in a row, should be averaging over 100!!! A few clangers have hurt him of course but come on, bring back the old winning goal scaling you miserable bean counters :mad:o_O:eek:

Great win Lions. They didn't play well again and their ball movement was terrible in the first half but hey, I'll take it. Neale not great given he's effectively done a Cripps from rd1 but I've held him so hopefully he's on the way up. Daniher- not sure if that was a missed spike or a great sign against Collingwood's quality talls.

Still ok with being a Grundy non owner. 28 disposals, 18 contested and 54 hitouts vs 4 from the opposition and he barely scraped over a 1:1 ratio. Suck it man bun!

Quick Thoughts Lions vs Pies

General - A game of two clearly distinct halves. An old school high stoppage first half (40) and a wide open super low stoppage 2nd half (17), neither half felt remotely physical so I'm going to take a punt and say there were a lot more boundary throw-ins in the first half when the skills felt even worse and probably just a few more tackles sticking into stoppages, it didn't really feel distinctly different watching but the numbers were definitely telling.

Pies - Strong choke job by them, absolutely dominated this game for the first half and failed miserably to convert and then just kept panicking and rushing decisions late when they had a solid 3 or 4 chances to wax the game late, were genuinely afraid to take the sideways kicks late to relatively open teammates and paid the ultimate price for it when the Lions snagged a mark inside 50. It's not like the Lions were doing good things either, they kept trying to screw it up as well but the Pies ultimately gave them enough chances. Ultimately it's bad coaching here, you don't score when dominant and you don't have a plan to close out the game when ahead.

Grundy - Was really good at the contest and dominated the first half, faded significantly in the 2nd half, especially the 3rd quarter, before scrambling some late points with a few big SC plays, one hitout at the end was given 10 points and then a couple of key plays. He was great and took advantage of playing no one which is all you can ask!

Howe - Solid game, built into it after a stinker of a 1st quarter and was one of their best by the end.

Pendles - Just solid as ever but another game where his ball usage was "ordinary" by his standards, probably the first time in his career he's had 3 straight games where you'd say that.

Quaynor - Really solid game, seems to have pushed Crisp out of the backline and established a spot as a primary rebounder.

Adams - Stinker for him, just butchered it all night and just seemed incapable of ever really getting into the game. Going to be a pretty tempting upgrade target in a couple barring some massive scores.

Sidebottom - Played at FF pretty much the whole night. Bucks gonna be Bucks. Oh well, thanks for the upgrade target.

Maynard - Scrambled a score in the end after going missing all night. Just doesn't seem to be able to get into games this year like he was last year.

Crisp - Pushed onto a wing this week with, to my eye at least, much less CBA work. Had a good 2nd quarter but was basically invisible the rest of the game. Just a stinker for him unfortunately (for me with him in DT at least!).

Sier - His best game of the year but still utterly underwhelming in his role. Not sure what happened to him, as a rookie he looked better than he does now.

Daicos - Forward again tonight, Pies definitely going with the good forwards on the end of bad kicking is going to produce more results than elite kicks to average forwards. Honestly I don't know of a team where that theory has genuinely worked...

De Goey - Role was all over the shop, definitely had the most impact up the ground tonight but kept shanking it and undoing any good work. Just a rough night.

Moore - Copped an absolute bath from Daniher, basically beaten in every contest and was only saved by the fact that Daniher still is a mental midget on easy set shots.

Lions - Some save, they were terrible again but the backline and the Pies inability to score kept them in the game and then the Pies absolute choke job handed them the game in the end. That didn't stop the Lions doing just about everything they could to lose this game but ultimately the Pies wanted to lose it just that little bit more. Super important result though and you take those wins. More concerning is a 3rd straight game where even using the word pressure to define what they offered seems generous.

Lyons - He's got to be one of the best bad footballers I've seen. Just keeps getting the ball and doing good things and you just kind of wonder how because nothing looks good, nothing seems good but when he does get it good things seem to happen. 10 tackles a credit to him though in a team who definitely look like they've been instructed not to tackle and this probably sounds harsh because he was actually good, he just always surprises me

Zorko - Actually thought his ratio was pretty harsh, I thought he was the best player on the ground, especially in the 2nd half when there was less stoppages and more space, aka everything he loves and he was one of the few guys who got a lot of it who seems to break lines, change angles or create chances.

McCluggage - Brutal ratio, his last 10 minutes were incredible and he managed to get 9 points for it total, such a weird scoring game because he was bad early, like really bad, when the Pies were on top but he was their clear best player in the last 10 minutes and in their best couple in the 2nd half and his ratio just kept getting worse. Positive is he finally had a good half this season, another sneaky upgrade target once he gets done wiping 50k+ off his already decent starting price because he actually looks really fit and appears to be building into something.

Rich - Another strong game for him. Wishing I'd gone all the ~85 priced guys I liked over the 100+ guys I liked right now given they're all scoring the same  Backs are scoring ridiculously well this year.

Neale - Again, looked unfit to me. Posted elsewhere but not making repeat contests, not getting touches around the back, not pushing ahead to be a linkup target. Had a strong first half when it was highly contested, believe he was on 78 at HT, and then when the game completely opened up and became more of a runners game than the stoppage game he just went missing. 25 odd DT points and about 10 SC for a half and just no impact. Role seemed fine, TOG was excellent, just doesn't seem capable of the run. Positive is he's looking a great upgrade target, negative is right now he doesn't actually look good enough to want...

Robertson - He was great, one of the few Lions showing genuine heart all night and actually wanting to make contact with the Pies players, like actually seeking contact, oh it was a sight for sore eyes in this season of bruise free football to have an old school throwback player trying to hit people! Juicy downgrade target in a couple.

Daniher - Great game until the kicking at goal, Bomber fans know this story. He hit probably the best kick of the night with his field kicking but put him 25m out and I'd rather most country league footballers kicking for my life. Still, he again looked in ripping shape and is just moving really well. What he did against quality opposition is a great sign for what he can do.

Andrews - Was really solid, couple of really bad blunders including one of the most irrational fend off decisions I've ever seen, like his best case was he breaks the tackle and then gets nailed by his man when he could have just kicked, handballed or stepped sideways. Still played really solidly and thought he could have scored more.

Bailey - Saved by the gamewinning goal because he had an absolute mare to that point of the night. Two embarrassing holding the balls probably the standout but basically didn't touch the ball for about 80% of the game despite a glorious role. His last few minutes and his 2nd quarter were really good though and he did salvage the score and remains a real premium chance if he can get out of his funk and stop this whole going missing for huge periods thing, he's too good a player in too good a role to do that still.

Fullarton - He did some nice things. Completely outmatched but he did some nice things. His refusal to use his jump was genuinely baffling though, it's like the coaches told him not to use it all night despite it being the one area he is definitely stronger than Grundy at.

Ballenden - One of the truly baffling coaching decisions. Spent half the game on the bench, rucked for maybe 5 minutes a quarter, offered less than nothing around the ground. One of those weird obsessions with structure. Charlie Cameron would have offered more contest in the ruck and given he gave nothing around the ground I just don't get it. Why not pick someone who actually gives you something, he's not beating any ruck anyway so why pretend? I'll never understand AFL coaches I don't think

Played: L Neale (VC) and J Daniher
Yet to play:
Today: S Martin, C Daniel, J Dunkley, J Macrae (C), J Ziebell, R Laird and R Sloane

Well aware that my decision last round to trade Dow and Grundy to D Martin and S Martin would prove to be a waste and should have been left to RD3, but I had planned on a rookie correction or 2 this round and wanted to drop one of Neale or Grundy early. Unfortunately chose the wrong one and very disappointed in the start by Neale due to Oliver spending the majority of the preseason at M1. Need Stef to deliver today to ensure I do not fall too far behind. Another solid match by Daniher and hopefully that 100+ spike is just around the corner.

Mannnn thought Neale would at least get 120 after his start. Very anti-climatic in the end.
Also, did a last minute change of VC from Neale to Grundy.
Can use Rowell as captain but I was planning to trade him so need some rookies to get dropped to take Grundy's score. Hoping one of H.Jones or Bergman get dropped. *** all I need to know who is lining up for Essendon this weekend before the Dogs game tomorrow but we won't be able to know. Hate this 24hr team naming rule :mad:
Talk is Bergman is medical sub, so watch out if he is "dropped". Jones a good chance to be ommitted.
