Whilst Neale and Olivier have the reputation/history, on short term fixture and performance to date, I feel I am drawn to Walsh for Danger. Thoughts?

Neale with Curnow and Tour in the next 4 games, getting closer to full fitness although yet to see how he pulls up.

Olivier with Turner and Curnow in next 4 games. Gun.

Walsh with Lions and Essendon who give up to mids, then Bulldogs and Melbourne (tagger used on Brayshaw?).

I'm genuinely looking at McCluggage for the same reasoning and that Clug has looked better than Neale the past few weeks anyway and I so nearly started him this season anyway, that and it lets me dump who I would most like to and still have some cash left for the Gawnquest.

Gotta say, I reckon Sweet can count himself as a bit stiff.
Apart from Round 1, Sweet looked better than anything Martin has produced this season.
Agree entirely, Sweet was excellent last week (albeit against nothing) and Martin has actually been pretty ordinary, even that round one was much more how badly Grundy played/tried than anything that Martin actually did, I'd have said he was solid that game and that's his best game.

Thanks. McLuggage hard for me. 3 scores under a 100 and a big scores against Dons who give up a lot to mids. Also why we should be cautious on Neale I expect. Would prefer Lyon if you think Neale going to get the tag, however, no value from either a tag, injury or one lower scoring game.

Team value suggests we should be chasing the higher scoring players still.

Can I check what you mean by your last comment? Is it that you think cash gen doesn’t look so bad that we compromise and stop targeting the Uber premiums?

It's always been the best bang for buck type of game - the right players, the right week, the right year... and quite a bit of good luck in regard to set up and field placement. Uber premiums only need to be bought at the start or end of the year - when they are in form

Personally I'm leaning in the opposite direction. I don't see the cash generating 2nd wave rookies right now and the 1st wave are really struggling to make cash in the first place. This was the most midpriced year I can recall in a long time where it was genuinely the right option for both cash and scoring reasons!

Hence why I'm finding myself drawn towards the value upgrades. While I'd love to get the Oliver, Steele, Martin and co type targets I think I'm going to end up going down the Sidebottom, Daniel and Clug type targets, maybe it's time to test once and for all that value points beats best of the best at full price, I mean I've already got a leg in that water!

Interesting. If Flynn is out, I was planning Meek > Treacy, but if I want to think short term (aka points this week), Sweet is probably a better one week play.
This is a terrible idea. Unless you need a donut that doesn't float for the large majority of the season. Something to be avoided at Round 5.
Depends if you think Treacy is going to play for the season, which I don't particularly think he will. Treacy won't float for me without a R/F link anyway. Meek is done making money and done playing, so is a 211K donut. I'm using the 110K from trading him this week.

Agree based on the game he is a bit stiff, but it just looks like they 'gave' him a game (vs poor team + no ruck) with zero intention of two. Hope holding Sweet works out okay.

Every team is different in how they have traded to date, sideways and injury trades. Looking at my team value, I can see I am +$250k ahead of 2018 and 2019 averages where my team value ended $13.5-13.8m.

For me, too early to be compromising on picking value based on that. We have ziebell and impey both smashing it, although they didn't start at $123k. Agree rookies are a bit weak and lack of a VFL season last year will either mean they dont come through or they come later than normal. Usually after round 7/8, the quality drops down to barely 1-2 positive rookie players getting game.

Still to early to chase too much value. At this stage we are holding impey/ziebell, which is a massive bonus.

However, value to me will be chasing Ridley, Houston injury type value if you dont own thtem, same as Stewart and Duncan last year. Houston on my radar. If you had a lot of injury trades or didnt cycle poor quality round 1 rookies, then Brayshaw looks interesting, not going to be tagged every week.

Interesting discussion @The Floggers @wogitalia @GrainFedBeef!

I can see how cash generation looks pretty dire at the moment, and how that points to a more value based strategy potentially being optimal (if not required!).

Equally there’s been one or two rounds this year where I’ve thought my cash gen was looking really good. Admittedly perhaps they were more like R1 and 2 than R5! :p

GFB’s stat regarding team value is very interesting, and suggests that it may not be as bad as it sometimes looks - at least for him!!

Last year and this year I’ve started a reasonably heavy GnR side, and intended to move to this as an ongoing approach, so I’m inclined to kind of play that out, unless there’s strong evidence it is the wrong call this year.

I reckon we might get lucky with players that I would consider top options falling into value territory in the coming weeks. Neale, Titch, Sidey, Danger were all pegged as players I wanted in preseason. Given that, I’m probably inclined to stick with the plan, and hope that those cash drops o***et any drop off is cash generation from the rookies ... we’ll see if that ends up being the right way to jump!

The advantage of a GnR starting strategy is that it’s probably Lloyd, Steele and Dunkley that are the only (current) top liners that I don’t already have. And Tex 🙂

Dunno if it's already been discussed but the dogs/giants VFL game was last night.

Buntine and Hogan played, leaving Bruhn and Mumford (lol) as the sub options for tonight.

Khamis and Schache both played, leaving Smith and McNeil, the latter of which has been "managed" so it's probably Smith as the sub.

Yeah, went to the pub for dinner with a mate and saw the footy was on. Had to check the fixture three times to make sure this rd started Fri night and ease my concerns about reversing trades and setting up loopholes!

Hogan played for the Gaints and snagged a couple. Hopefully comes in soon and gets Jelly out of the fwd line...wishful thinking I know
