Possibly. But kicking goals is part of what you’d expect in the role he’s playing so not all luck that he did just that.
Was really adamant on ditching him this round but getting second thoughts now.

Hi All,
Is anyone considering Zac Williams or Witherden as a replacement for Howe? Too risky? Thanks and good luck!
I agree with Angry on Zac, as far as Witherden is concerned, I was looking at him for similar reasons, but my concern is what happens when Hurn returns to the side? In his debut for the Eagles, he took almost all the kick-ins. With Hurn due back, I expect that will drop significantly, just how many SC points that equates to i'm not sure, but almost one third of his kicks came from kick ins so bear that in mind if trading him in.

Likewise I am stupidly going to trade out Ridley, it’s basically my only way of avoiding a def donut and still getting neale in, will easily be able to get him back 60k or hopefully less cheaper in 2-3 weeks but definitely hoping it pays off
Is it worth two trades though? Thinking long game here, its only round 6.

I’ve been hovering around 9th-30th all year and don’t wanna cop a donut and fall
I think that in your position I would be looking at the top teams. I would not mind betting they have him. Have a look tomorrow night and see how many are still keeping him and make your decision then.
Edit: I just had a look. 27 of the top 30 teams have Ridley!

How many trades have you used so far?

The rookie downgrade targets are looking pretty horrific right now. You've got Mansell holding Vlastuin's spot for possibly 2 weeks as the best back, an early punt in the mids and a forward pocket in a team making two changes a week look like it's mandatory as the best options with not a lot more on the horizon and almost all the top draft guys already in play.

Makes me feel like there are a couple of huge decisions in play now...

1. Take the cows and pray - They look bad, the ones who look decent keep getting hurt/dropped but you just take what cash you can and pray that the rookie targets end up looking a lot better than expected.

2. Milk, milk milk - Hold the guys who are playing until they actually make big cash, reality is that holding a Jordon/Campbell type and hoping they hit a big score is quite possibly a better bet right now than hoping Mansell is still there in 3 weeks, for example.

3. Sacrifice the "premium" upgrade targets - Normally you'd want/need them but I think this year might be the ultimate value hunt, I only need one defender and Lloyd has been my target from the second I locked that format but now a guy like Daniel is going to be so cheap that maybe I have to do it? Same across all the lines, as much as I want Oliver, Steele, Martin and Lloyd, maybe I need to accept and punt on lesser targets.

I can certainly see people trying to get the best of the best and trading aggressively running face first into a big wall, I'm aggressively targeting 7 upgrades right now (assumes Kelly, Taranto, Hind and Impey are all keepers which seems dreamy) and I'm honestly not sure how I can fund them on current projections. Heck even if all my existing rookies made me 100k from here (unlikely given a couple aren't even playing!) I'd have a bit over 500k per upgrade and that's with an utterly unrealistic 7 targets!

Here's me sitting here hoping a few of the rookies go bang this week! Worst part is the value on offer right now is actually very decent but I've just got no pathways or trade out options!

Yeah I'm about $650k short on current rookies to just get the players I want, with some assuming that my 7 bench rookies avg 110k each....so going to need some heavy lifting from whoever I buy in the coming weeks. And that is with Cumming and Ziebell still on field, but fortunately not Daniher.

I’ve been tempted but am still holding Neale and Cripps also hence probably tells i’m a traditionalist on not sideways trading fit premiums.
My only other speculative mid "premo" is Taranto, for his starting price he hasn't really failed, just hasn't been that good but I have no inclination to get rid of him. Only four trades used, in the top 100 and really do not want to fall behind with a mid premo scoring 90s every week and losing 20 to 30 points to equivalent mids, plus the replacements I've targeted wont be a their current prices for too long. His role is really shocking and he's named in a forward pocket for tonight, I can see him barely reaching 90 again. Quality player playing in a bad position, it's tough because he's fit a you've said.

My take is that I would consider it if I had not already used more than 4 trades this year until now. Given I have already turfed Gaff, Neale and Daniel I am drawing a line in the sand on sideways trades and sucking up Jelly.
Sadly we have the same sketchpad.

Congrats on the strong start. If i was still in range of a genuine shot at overall i’d be inclined to still be trading aggressively so keep backing your gut.

Who do we go to next when we've got; Laird, Ridley, Stewart, Howe,

not sure if i should hold for Lloyds next price drop or i should judt get it over with.

I am considering Bowes but i heard he may be injured and he seems inconsistent and not a season holder

Agree. Mansell just seems like a massive reach for those desperate to avoid a defensive donut this week.

I'd rather wait and see what else pops up over the next few weeks - hopefully Briggs, Khamis, Gould, Worrell, Bianco etc. aren't far off.
You can cross Bianco off your list at least - out 2-3 weeks still on the latest injury report and he wasn't close to getting an AFL game before the injury either.

I prefer Treacy over Mansell because Treacy can eventually hide at R3 as a DPP swing option when Flynn is ready to trade out. Unfortunately, Mansell is stuck in Defence where bench cover is already questionable.

Who do you downgrade Flynn to if you don't get Treacy now? I don't own Fullarton anymore, so my trade out options are extremely limited. Jordon Sweet or Nick Bryan could be an option possibly, but neither are DPP.

My main concern is whether I am able to carry a Waterman & Treacy forward bench (with Rowe F6 currently) for the next 4-5 weeks until Flynn is ready to trade out (best case assuming no more Mumford interruptions).
We all consider Treacy to be a poor scorer and ultra slow burn if he can even hold his spot in the team. Therefore why is it necessary to bring him in before you need to downgrade Flynn or before Marshall is ready to get. If you think you will need the trade spot later and it may cost you grabbing a good rookie on the bubble. Then bring him in now.

Sit and wait day for the teams to arrive. If Clark and Chapman are playing then GG has already said Kosi is playing and I will have 6 defenders.
If Clark or Chapman are not playing then I need a Highmore to be available and i wont know until too late. Have Danger to get rid of and trade options are Mids - Neale, Freoshaw and DEF - Ryan willing to wait on Lloyd/D Martin until byes.

If I was convinced Neale is back to full gear I would grab him now, just not convinced yet. I believe Freoshaw will continue to breakout and average 105-110 for balance of year. Makes him best value trade at the moment. Ryan is guy with upside and that will put some spine into DEF which has been nothing but heartache all year.

In terms of trades I don't need to trade however lost over 300 points sitting on Danger since round 1. Not taking any more points losses than I have too. I have H Jones, Brockman and Berry on the bench and one of them would have gone for L Jones if he was playing this week. Still tempted to get Mansell as cannot see Jones getting to 200k at this rate and cannot use his score on field most weeks. Especially with Treacy at F8. Brockman survives because his DPP allows me some flexibility along with Scott for Bench cover.

Thoughts on best options

Well Treacy is the only 102K DPP ruck and he actually has the bonus of getting games. He opens up the possibility of covering a ruck injury with Marshall down the track.

I suppose you could pay 15K more for Shannon Neale or 20K more for Comben/Lynch, but they are no chance of getting games. Why pay extra for that?

Also like you say - what if there is a good rookie on the bubble the week you need to downgrade Flynn to Neale? Is it worth setting up your R/F DPP swingman now while there are limited bubble rookie options?

Thoughts on this....
Hold Howe (CJ @ D4, Chapman then Kosi) with the aim being that no one really worth getting unless I go for a Nigel Mansell?
Have to play a Scott or Waterman (depending on a Dusty flip)
But allows me to hold both trades, not really miss any "must-have" rookies and gives the ability to trade Howe next week up to a Neale or wait another week and get Ridley...
My other issue is the filth that is Josh Kelly! Lucky to get 98 after kicking the winning goal... So could always Howe to Nigel, Kelly to Steele/Anyone
Any suggestions appreciated?

Really stuck between a rock and a hard place here - could be down to three playing defenders this week if selection doesn't go my way.

The conundrum is that with Clarry and Neale gettable in the next two weeks and a number of potential DEF premos set to come into the buy price range 3-4 weeks down the track I feel like I'm almost going to be forced to wear the DEF donuts for the next 1-3 weeks, because there's nobody down back that I'm keen enough on to give up on those upgrades elsewhere.

Kind of a **** position to be in 6 rounds into the season...
