Quick thoughts on the Dogs midfield now that Dunkley might miss a fair bit of footy -

Macrae - suggest that his role will remain largely unchanged. May tend a bit more toward the inside, but he's always had the tendency to find space and link-up, so even if the directive is there, it's unlikely that the inside-outside ratio will change too much.

Bont - has spent a fair bit of time up forward so far this season, so there may be a slight increase in midfield time. Has often attended centre bounces before drifting forward in general play. Midfield time so far has generally been dependent on the opposition anyway.

Treloar - has been starting on a wing or in the middle before playing off the shoulder of the ball carrier a fair bit in general play, and that's his best role by far IMO. Attended every centre bounce in the final term against West Coast a few weeks ago and has worked into the role as the season has progressed. I quite like him as an option if he can continue to accumulate, but it's also the sort of role that is more heavily effected when the team isn't going so well.

Hunter - probably irrelevant given he's almost exclusively played off the wing and half-forward flank. Only thing I can think of is if he gets some of Macrae's outside ball the latter goes more inside.

Smith - Largely played off a wing, and I'd like to see him get a solid run at it in the middle. It's been a very tight group in terms of CBAs so far this season, but he's got the dash and hard edge to make the role his own. We've also got Lipinski who can replace him on the outside and give run and carry.

Liberatore - might be the main beneficiary. I initially thought that Dunkley was a Libba injury away from putting it all together, but given Dunkley's form, the injury might give Libba a solid run at it. Won't get the big numbers that Dunkley does, but in terms of role it makes it ridiculously solid. Actually thinking of bringing him in for Kelly next week.

Bevo said in the press conference that he'd like to keep the continuity there, so I doubt there'll be any significant changes, moreso some tweaking to make sure there isn't a huge upheaval in the middle.

I guess it might depend on how long people hold the likes of Walker , Ziebell , Impey & Hind.

Greene & Wingard will be risky too many.

Do Marshall & Sidebottom return to form ?

Look at Dixon or Hawkins for example.

All we need is for Brown to reappear and punch out back to back 💯's.

Be good to see some different names though which appeared a very easy line to predict at the start of the season.
Shai Bolton last two weeks has been very good especially around the stoppages, his 29 a few rounds ago killed his price. Not sure if he is entirely reliable every week but is at a very decent price, will get you $170k odd from Dunkley.

I don't really know why anyone would be trading Ziebell, Impey, Hind or Walker at this point. Not only are they viable premiums right now but the only guys actually better than them are dropping like ten-pins. Walker perhaps the exception here given he looked very ordinary last week once he was a bit sore.

Silver lining of Dunkley injury is I have a pathway to Gawn now... because sideways trades are how you win this thing right?

Ok, so I missed the game, but see that Dunks is injured. How many weeks are we thinking ?
Bad. It's either the kind he gets a jab and some tape and plays out the season (like Clug last year) or it's probably months if he goes surgery but it definitely looked like the latter was the immediate thought of the medical staff.

Not sure why people pick Josh Dunkley , misses so many games each season he is just injury prone.....oh wait maybe that only applies to selected players 😉

Damn now I have to trade Dunkley out , maybe a avenue to Heeney or a premium ruck
Time to trade him back to the other player that misses so many games each season :)

Could be long term / surgery required - his shoulder just popped out a second time trying to spoil with no other bodily contact, so it's not looking good.

History is littered with players who've tried to strap up a really loose shoulder and play through it just to injure the shoulder more severely in a tackle or marking contest and Dunkley is a massive key to the Doggies fortunes even with their midfield depth, so I can't see them taking any chances with him personally.

Wold have it been better to not put him back out there and check it through the week or makes no difference?

If Dunkley is gone for the season it won't really matter now as we have to trade him out.

No one probably matches his output but lots of options their.

Dixon , Hawkins , Heeney , Marshall , Sidebottom etc all might be possible options.

I understand where you are coming from @Herbie66 but none of those guys are in the 17 you referred to as currently ave over 90. But….

Dixon Has ave over 90 twice in 10 years. Hardly reliable.
Hawkins He scores in runs. If you get him at the start of a run brilliant. But picking when is an issue
Heeney Is a 90 ave I grant you. But he misses games. Having said that if he has had his run of missed games this season he is a possibility. And has a good ceiling. On my radar
Marshall Go cannot trade him in now. And we need a trade now. I will look at him in 2 or 3 rounds time.
Sidebottom The Pies are a basket case but be could ave 90. But if you trade him in now most likely you will lose money before he comes good.

I'm not second guessing a club doctor's decision, but I suppose that's what they were doing in the game given that he didn't appear to be in any pain or limited in movement after they popped it back in the first time.

It appears to be rather loose in that shoulder now though, so he might need a bit of a tighten up and clean out if he did any further damage to the joint or ligaments the second time.

I guess I should have wrote it looks a lot more variety are options now compared to the start of the season when the majority of people were probably just predicting the likes of Dangerfield , Dunkley , Marshall , Martin , Sidebottom , Walters , Zorko etc to be our forward lines.

With 17 players currently averaging 90+ we now might have to take a chance on a few players that we may prefer not to and hope they continue/maintain their current scoring levels.

Absolutely. And that is the $64,000 question. (seriously showing my age there). The issue is which one. And which is why if you got Impey and Ziebell early they now suddenly are worth considering as keepers because they cost very little compared to the risk of taking on the guys we get to choose from now who might not ave much more.

Yikes! Not what I wanted to hear 😬 At least he did it late in the game, after a great score and passing his b/e. Price may even go up and now provides some option to use the cash to improve my team.
