Deeman1 do think Brown will fit into your forward setup and will it effect deliveries into that zone , at the moment it's pretty open , he may narrow the options .

The AFL needs to "bugger the clubs" on team selection

Gerard Whateley would like the tradition of the teams being named on Thursday night to return.

It was dumped last year as part of the COVID-19 uncertainty, but remained in 2021 because coaches and clubs enjoyed the greater flexibility.

Whateley urges the AFL to “bugger the clubs”.

“The no teams on Thursday night, I’ll tell you the impact,” he said.

“Once the Sydney team landed, once you saw that team late Friday night, you go, they can’t win.

“And the same, if you’d already locked in your tips, and you saw the Collingwood team. “It’s actually really unfair on people who follow the game.

“The AFL is so aligned with betting on these things, it has a profound affect on how you want to do that, but it’s more the cultural thing of tipping.

“You want to tip with some knowledge of what it’s going to look like and those are the two best examples this year.

“The Sydney team landed you went ‘holy hell’ and the Collingwood team landed and you wanted to flip your position.

“Not having those on a Thursday night, it’s more than a ‘we’ve always had this’. This is profoundly impacting the way we think about the games.

“It’s such a pity. It’s such an unnecessary change. It suits the clubs. Bugger the clubs. It’s supposed to be about more than that.

“Put your teams in on Thursday night and make your adjustments with paperwork along the way.

“Selection profoundly impacted the way those games were going to be played and they happened almost invisibly.”

North Melbourne premiership player David King agreed, saying: “It’s the fans’ game, Gerard,” King added.

Yes please. This is seriously affecting me this season...! I understood the reasoning last season with the irregular game times but not enjoying it this year. More 6:20pm Saturday carnage to come as long as this continues

Scott might be needed much more this week than past weeks for those with Martin, Rowe potentially out and "integral part of our 22" Waterman probably not back. Him being rested this round would be pretty awful.

I agree with this position as much as the next person but I hardly think "but my tips!" is a compelling argument. I'd much rather hear them talk about things like certainty for the state league teams...
