Id love to know how anyone paying 650K for Bont or Lyons expects to complete a side.
It's really not that hard if you have most of the right rookies and have avoided injuries.

Someone who didn't need to sideways out Neale, Rowell, Dangerfield etc. can afford to "waste" that extra trade on cashing out McCreery at 210K to Treacy at 110K, make that measly 100K and get Bont instead of Steele.

The teams that are batting 6+ deep with uber premiums in their midfield are the teams that will end up with koschitzke @ D6 and Warner @ F6.
There might be a few lucky coaches out there that have avoided injuries and can accommodate that sort of midfield.
But with the poor cash generation with rookies, you do need to find a bargain or 2 to complete your team. Cerra might be one, take out his injury effected game and he's ave 101, 3 games of 120+ from 6 games (without injury effected game)
I see Cerra as a Gaff type, runs all day. Suited to the way the game is played these days. I wouldn't write him off completely.
I think this is a very real point and one I probably have my head buried in the sand about.

I am probably still eyeing off those 600k mids, but with only 14 trades left and at least 5 premiums to bring in, I probably need to face reality and realise that if I actually want to get to somewhere near full premo, these guys probably shouldn't be on my shopping list.

For example this week I was looking at a round 12 mid and had my eye on Touk for 600k, but I should probably change my focus to a Titch for 550k. Small saving but they all count at this time of year.

There are more than enough bargains in the forward line though. Ziebell (258K when most bought him), Zorko (486K), Hall (420K), Dusty (425K), Impey (212k) & Heeney (342K) is a "Top 6" quality forward setup right now.

The savings made in forward line mean it's actually quite easy for teams to fit Macrae, Oliver, Bont, Lyons, Parish, Walsh, Steele & Miller into their midfield if they want to.

I just think the whole "surely no-one can afford that so I'll just settle for Cerra" approach is wishful thinking and a bit naïve on how good some teams are in this competition - aim big! ;)

Unfortunately had to do that including Danger twice.

Thoughts on the JS of Madden? who returning will look at replacing him? Lester?

Thinking of going Cerra and Madden - to ensure I still have 350k for bye round changes.

What do you think I should do

Powell and Jordon
For
Bontempelli and Madden
Or
Cripps and Heeney

Current side

Stewart, Short, Ridley, Daniel, Harmes, N. Cox / Kosi, Young-PA
Macrea, Oliver, Laird, Walsh, Taranto, Powell, Jordon, Morrison / Collier-Dawkins, Brockman, A. Fyfe
Zorko, Dusty, Ziebel, Poulter, Warner, Rowe / Weightman, Thilthorpe
Gawn, Grundy / Flynn

11 rookies so far have made $ 150k profit and people still think they will have 8 mids going 110+ in their completed sides.

Play this game 100 times better than me

Doubt anyone nailed all 11 rookies , even with a mid priced forward line can't see how it is even remotely possible given most of the good teams have Gawn & Grundy and probably started 4-5 premium defenders.

Interesting looking at the Top 5000 thread and seeing how popular the likes of Mitchell , Taranto & Kelly etc are.

Lyons 12% ownership , no sign of Miller or Parish at all

Well done to those that have had all the rookies making $$$ and can upgrade into $ 575k + mids successfully when they can

Some of us have no capacity to pay for 5 or 6 600k players at this point.

Tbh, I'm not sure how anyone is actually coming up with that sort of cash at this point.

For me getting Cerra at 400k (if I was able to do it) would allow me to spend 600k elsewhere to get 1*100 player and 1*110 player, whereas I'd never get the 1.2m to get 2*110 players, and spending the 1.0m on 2 500k types would only get me 2*100 players.

I'm hopeful to get a 110 player in Whitfield for 500k though....
Steele, T.Mitchell, Petracca, J.Kelly are all around $550k or less, and you can reasonably expect them to have strong runs home. They seem like fairly obvious trade in targets. Add Neale to the list when he’s back.

Ridley, Whitfield, Lloyd will be great prices for their expected 2H output in defence.

Plenty of high quality options out there to fill a side from my perspective

Current Leaders midfield

Laird * , Macrae , Merrett , Mitchell , Oliver , Steele , Taranto

+ Jordon

Brockman , Collier-Dawkins , Scott on the bench
That's pretty much my starting midfield

Traded Danger > Mitchell rnd2
Gaff > Ridley rnd 3

So...Macrae, Merrett, Mitchell, Oliver, Steele and Jelly.

Only Taranto and Jelly different.

Jordan & Poulter on field RCD, Scott & McNeil bench.

Ranked 26k odd

I've got Laird , Macrae & Merrett + Jordon.

Boak , Cerra , Cripps , Martin at the moment.

Hopefully turn Rowe into Duncan (via Martin)

Jordon to no idea at the moment
L Jones to no idea at the moment (via Laird)

Need Byrnes & Poulter to fatten considerably on the bench and hope 2 downgrade targets appear

So I need to find 8k to be able to upgrade Jordon to Dusty.

Am I insane for considering Jez Cameron to Heeney to make it happen?

This frees up 70k, which is exactly the same as a McNeil > Weightman move would generate. Don't think I'm keen on Madden for JS reasons... Other options would be selling Rowe but he's still got cash to make.

Below is the team for context.

A couple of rounds ago I did Cumming > Harmes for $$$. It killed my bye round round planning. Pay close attention as Cameron has a good bye, although for you with Nth/Hawks forward line...it might actually be a good for yours....
