Taking out Kersten all the FWD rookies seem to be strong vest candidates to me. And we all know the issues with lack of defence rookies.
Is Kersten that much of a safe option. I believe he is a marking forward? With Hawkins and Vardy up forward along with the resting ruck (Hmac/Simpson). I know Geelong want to play Kersten but will it be more of and in and out approach I'm not sure

I currently have 9 midpricers in my team, which im not very happy about at all. Things will change as through the NAB i find more rookies im happy with though.

I have 5 in my backline. whoah. and Pav creeps into midpricer territory but believe is a proven premium along with Sandi

15 under 240
2 240-440 (Pav and Sandi)
13 over 440

I have delved into mid priced madness on several occasions but am pretty set on this now, maybe 3-4 mid pricers max. I think you need at least 12 solid keepers or it will be too hard to upgrade to top players.

AFL Fantasy is the place to go nuts on mid pricers with all the trades. I find this quite fun as you can pick random players but a spot in my SC Team is a far higher honour so less risky picks are needed!

side looks ok but maybe just couple to many risks

How is it possible that David Swallow is going to play more midfield time this year with the addition of Jack Martin in the mix? If Swallow was behind Jaeger in the midfield pecking order, Martin isn't going to help Swallow's cause. I would love to pick him with the guarantee of getting much more midfield time, but I can't see it happening.

He could easily play a full game in the midfield in my eyes. They've continuously gave players like Karmichael Hunt, Alex Sexton, Danny Stanley, Jackson Allen, Andrew Boston and Mav Weller (no longer at the club) runs through the midfield meaning there's plenty of opportunity to have a crack in there. If it were up to me, I'd move Rischitelli out of the midfield to give Swallow the run he deserves. Under-performed in there for years now. I completely see where you are coming from though, time will tell.

Rather than going a rookie with no AFL experience I have compiled a list of supercoach relevant players <300 that have some hair on their Nads;)
FORWARDS
Lachlan Hunter managed to play 9 games last year in his first season with an avg of 52. Will play more games this year and rotate through the midfield at times.

Joe Daniher only managed to play 5 games last year with an avg of 50. With the bombers loosing Gumby and Cramery Bomber Thompson said that he will start the season as the bombers key forward also scored a 98 in 1 of those games.

Shuan Higgins Has not been able to really get many games strung together in the past 3 years. If he can stay fit I still think he can produce decent scores for his price. Not for me at this stage.

Mitch Clark Is another player who can not stay on the park. In the past at the lions has proven that he can score well and maybe if he does not start early can be traded in later on ?

Troy Menzel managed to play 6 games last year and I think that he we sneak into the blues starting 22 in the forward pocket..

Patrick Karnezis, Ben Kennedy and Alex Fasolo role the dice and have a punt.

Nathan Bock After that leg injury has not been able to get back, but with a good pre season and if he starts R1 lock him in Eddie..

Gary Rohan has shown us what he is capable of and should be in the swans best 22..

Someone has to replace Eddie but if Menzel plays is more likely a high half forward than in the pocket.

Troy Menzel I expect to be part of team every week.
With Eddie Betts gone we need that extra forward that can take a grab, apart from just Waite and Casboult types.
Menzel is ideal for doing this.

Similarly Joe Daniher should be part of Bombers team all season.

Whether they are SC relevant is another story, but they will be senior AFL players this year, for sure.

More SC relevant is Nick Graham but he is no certainty of getting a regular midfield gig. He was out most of last season, injured, when he came back, he blitzed in VFL team and got into seniors as a sub. Seemed like he scored well for limited time he got on ground so keep a watch on.

I think at this stage mid pricers are looking the goods in the forward line, not to sure on some of the back line rookies. I like Webtser and Griffiths as safer picks.

Totally agree. I've now got 2 117k forward rookies and I reckon only one of them looks good for a game (JKH). An Essendon mate reckon Zac Merrett looks good for games too. Hope he's right, though if Lloyd gets picked for the Tiges in week one, I'll take teh extra round 8 issue. My forward midpricers are Wright, Hunter and BenKen.

I've got 15 in the 0 -240k group as well. I've got 2 in the 240 -440 range but I haven't finished spending yet.
After all the rookie carnage, I've now got 14 in the 0 - 240 group and 4 in the 240 - 440 group. Also down to 45k spare

No sandi is a tough call! Has a massive ceiling, say he plays 6 games, injured in the 6th and scores you a 50. By that stage, I just have a strong feeling he will be a lot more expensive than say Grundy or Hickey which lets you eventually trade one of those two in while making cash. He's a pick who just shows so much value and I can't bring myself to not selecting him. :p

I'm taking the punt on 6 mid pricers.

Sucking, D Thomas, Sandilands, Wright, Caddy, Higgins.

Why not eh? Got nothing to lose. Surely 4 of those will be alright. The other two...probably Higgins and Caddy/Wright can be corrected.

If a decent fwd rookie option presents itself before round 1, then Higgins goes.

Got 3 from that list and that's enough risk for me! All comes down to risk and reward. I'm hoping that 2 of the 3 may turn into keepers or that enough $$ will be saved and enough points scored!

Seven in my latest iteration with only one rookie starting in the fwds or backs!

Swallow
Grimes
Thomas
Sandilands
Dahlhaus
Darling
Wright

I'm hoping at least half will work out, leaving me with maybe three corrective trades when I know which rookies to go for! And out of these guys 3 have averaged over 90 previously and the rest at least over 75 so I won't be relying on too much of a jump in their scores.

TG - you obviously went well last year. How different an approach is this year compared to last year? Completely understand if you don't want to discuss. Thanks!

I don't think my strategy has changed too much. Grab as many reliable rookies as possible and then autofill with premiums. This year however, we seem to be missing a whole lot of these reliable rookies!

Since we have thirty trades, I also don't mind starting the year off with a few selections that don't necessarily work - for example last year I started with Karnesis, Bellchambers and Watts - all disasters if you had kept them the whole season. However I traded them all out pretty quickly (to JJK, Leuenberger and Dwyer, the extra cash also allowed me to get Wingard in).

This season I'm pretty confident that if Dale Thomas and Sandilands are fully fit, they will score well. Of the other 5 high-midpricers only half have to do ok. Those that I would trade also give an early option to downgrade/upgrade (to rookie/premium) or find another breakout midpricer which you do not get so much with a G&R approach.

Having said all of this, I would prefer ideally one more on field rookie (total would be 6) as it gives just enough cash to play around with at the top end of the team (ie. Cotchin > Pendles or Grimes > Hodge).
