Hey guys im looking to be able to watch nab games and regular season games on my computer and/or phone this season as i dont have foxtel. Found this afl live app $90 for the season was wondering if anyone has used it or has any better ideas? https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS50ZWxzdHJhLmFuZHJvaWQuYWZsIl0.
Yeah I used it last year on my iPad/iphone. It was great and at $90, it's a cheap way to watch every game live including replays when ever you like.

Also there should be an update for the 2014 season in the coming days if it's the same as last year.

I can picture it now. SC die-hards down at the local hotel, watching NAB Challenge, with a couple of 'frothies' and occasionally scribbling down notes in wee black books. That will be me over the next 2 weeks.
I probably won't be able to watch all of them live but I have foxtel IQ so will tape the ones I miss.

I'm just waiting for my wife to yell out one day "Why the bloody hell are you taping all of these useless footy games for?"

It's great.... had a few issues in the earlier rounds but was very solid from then on.

More of a use to Telstra customers I reckon with the downloads not effecting limits. Watched this at half time of other games, on the train etc!

You may want to direct your wife to your signature with quality finishes with three top 100 and two top 300s!

Boys some real quick help for a draft league for me. (Ultimate footy categories)

I have Nic Nat and Belchambers (R/F) and want a back up ruck. These are my options. Keep in mind UF change positions in season so Rucks can gain F.

Hmac, Simpson, Longer, Giles, Jenkins, West, Jamar.

A FWD ruck would be nice but I'm mainly after hitouts or goals. Quick lol

I see he is named for the nab game. Can only assume the body is ok. Also most consider him number 1 if all rucks are fit. Yes? lol

I just posted this in the AsktheCoach Question thread in response to a post of Clarko's responses to some questions, but I thought I would also post it here to get some feedback. I might be completely off base but would love to hear others thoughts on who might perform the Brent Guerra role at Hawthorn, as I do not see it being Suckling.

Here is my thinking:-

Since the retirement of Brent Guerra I was wondering who was going to fill his previous role as one of the designated 'kickers' out of the backline. I have always thought the Duyrea looked very similar to Goo in both stature and kicking style, a very fluid left footer with plenty of power. With Suckling coming back from a year long injury I don 't see him slotting straight back into the side, and if he does he may be vested a bit and used higher up the ground providing forward 50 entries rather than coming off halfback. I think with Lake and Stratts down back and the return off Shoey, I see Gibbo getting off the leash and Birch and Mitchell/Hodge providing the playmaking component, that leaves Duyrea as the small back. I just see Duyrea as a better fit than Suckling coming back from injury. Suckling has a habit of being a little lazy and over ambitious with his kicking, yes he can be lethal, but he can also give you a 'grubber' or a complete 'shank'. Duyrea now another year older and hopefully wiser and having played through a finals campaign might be more consistent and effective and with (hopefully) a change in his role i.e. taking the Guerra role, could be worth a look this year.

Hopefully this has all made sense and is not too thought dis-ordered? I have a habit of rambling.

I felt last season that Duyrea turned the footy a bit too much, although I don't have the stats at hand to back it up, that's just the way I saw it. I would suspect he would have been working on his disposal efficiency and with another preseason under his belt, a year of senior footy and obviously natural improvement you would expect him to improve his overall game. As for the kicking out role I feel Suckling will be the man at most benefit. Beautiful kick of the footy, can clear the ball well outside the defensive 50. I believe you will see him take majority kick-ins with guys like Birchall and Mitchell (when he's down there) taking a few as well.

Hope that sort of helps.

Could I get the thoughts from some people on whether there is any real benefit, when choosing a keeper at the start of the season, in having someone who scores 95, 105, 85, 105, 95, 110, 85, 120, 90 (average 98 ish) as opposed to someone who scores 85, 130, 125, 75, 85, 140, 70, 70, 110 (average 98 ish). Do we feel that a consistent scorer is more beneficial or if we are using them as a keeper for the season we are really just wanting them to play 22 games and get their 100 point average by the end of the season???

I am looking at this in a FWD / BACK context where if I can pick a D4 or F4 to avg 100 over the course of the year I will be stoked - but just wondering if there is downside in selecting someone with more volatility (on the assumption that they do end up scoring the same amount of cumulative points)

Only 2 things initially spring to mind in this scenario:

1. You may lose an important league match if your volatile player goes low on a particular week. If you have too many of these guys you may not generate enough wins during the season if you get unlucky. Conversely, you could smash teams as well and end up first with high percentage if you play the right teams on the right week!

2. Cash loss/generation. If your volatile player plays REALLY well for weeks in a row (like Cloke for the Dimmawits), then you have earnt yourself some handy cash and can bring in another player who'll average the same as Cloke for the season or better, making some important $$$. If your volatile player plays poorly for weeks in a row, you'd have to ride the wave to save yourself burning trades and wait for him to even out.

I think in a risk/reward sense there is a case for having some of these volatile players. For your sanity though I wouldn't run with too many of these types! If they play 22 games at the same average as Mr. Consistent then you certainly haven't lost out.
