Strategy Round 18: Trades

So I'm in a bit of strife... to say the least.

I've got Jiath out, and 3 trades left. No cash in the bank.

My team is currently:

May, Lloyd, Short, Daniel, Whitfield, Jiath (Highmore, Walker)
Steele, Bont, Macrae, Laird, Wines, Walsh, Cripps, Taranto (Bramble, Newcombe, Bianco)
Grundy, Gawn (Flynn)
Ziebell, Danger, Martin, Heeney, Hind, Hawkins (Waterman, Briggs)

Trying to work out what to do with Jiath. I'm not sure whether it's worth downgrading someone like a Waterman to get some extra cash to trade Jiath, or just throw Jiath into the forward line via Laird and Danger and get Newnes like previously mentioned. Feels like this could derail my season...

Jiath - > $ 500k mid (plenty viable in that price range)

Yeah it's not a bad call, covering Jiath with Walker and then seeing what happens. I can see how it goes tonight by looping Walker.

If you can wait a week, pending selection, I'm going Charlie Curnow at 294k will be interesting.

Carlton has said all along he'll be playing a few weeks in the VFL with restricted minutes, it might be a month before back in the seniors

Yeah it's not a bad call, covering Jiath with Walker and then seeing what happens. I can see how it goes tonight by looping Walker.

See how long you can get away with Highmore for sure. Jiath was only averaging 84 anyway. Highmore has 3 scores over 90 over his last 4 games. I'd be waiting until a donut emerges. That's what you have a good rookie cover player like Highmore for. It's not like Jiath was a key scorer for your side like a midfielder where the points leak could be way more. It's tough that Jiath is done for season but you still have 6 decent defenders.

You could use 2 trades and upgrade/downgrade Jiath and Flynn to a M8 and rookie (via Laird to defence) with some cash left over.

Or if not wanting to be down to 1 trade look at various rookie downgrade options for Jiath, agin swinging Laird to defence and sitting on some cash with your final 2 trades.

Or sit tight and cop a donut.

Any of these could be the right choice depending on whether you are targeting leagues or overall.

For those strapped for cash / down to one trade (me) needing to plug a hole in the FWDs or possibly just looking for some value, Jack Newnes (M/F) $301k is worth a look. Knocked out an 84 last week v the Cats and had a pretty lucrative HB/wing role (based on his heat map and what I saw of the game). The loss of Docherty has probably helped his cause in terms of both JS and role. Carlton also have a pretty decent draw from here and after the Pies at the MCG this weekend, all their remaining games are at Marvel. He's not going to give you massive scores but with Docherty out I reckon he can score fairly consistently and represents pretty good cover for both the FWD and MID lines at the very least.

Liked the look of Nick Blakey in his new role last week @ $268,400 , could offer similar coverage

Do we know how long Whitfield is gonna be out? 3 trades left and I don't want to trade him, but playing Murphy for the next 2 rounds wouldn't be ideal.
