You know who was the exception to the second years blue rule - Jelwood. Helps to play in a winning team for so long, but his numbers are amazing really!

Year - Games - SC Avg
2007 - 18 - 77
2008 - 21 - 98
2009 - 22 - 111
2010 - 21 - 118
2011 - 17 - 111
2012 - 20 - 118
2013 - 22 - 118

You know who was the exception to the second years blue rule - Jelwood. Helps to play in a winning team for so long, but his numbers are amazing really! (from SC Gold...) (perhaps he skipped the blues by not playing in 2008?!)

Year - Games - SC Avg
2007 - 18 - 77
2008 - n/a - n/a
2009 - 22 - 111
2010 - 21 - 118
2011 - 17 - 111
2012 - 20 - 118
2013 - 22 - 118
You've fallen for the SC Gold 2008 blackhole trick.
For some reason SC Gold never EVER has 2008 stats. Perhaps SC was run by someone else for that one year? If not I don't know why it happens!
Selwood played 21 games at 98.2 in 2008.
The best players do overcome "2nd year blues", but just keep in mind, one: it's more about development time than blues, and two: there will be very few exceptions, as 99% of players that play 5 or more games in their first year, have a second year*!

*That stat is totally made up, off the top of my head, just using logic.

Ha, I knew someone would tell me I/SC Gold had it wrong! :)

Thanks Rowsus and Nk for pointing me in the correct direction.

Been a listener for a little while, however, first time caller...

Just wanted to say, there's some very captivating and seriously (SERIOUSLY) in-depth SuperCoach discussion that goes on around here! Some of the SuperCoach statistical analysis is world class, and I feel I am privileged to bare witness to all these goodies while I am trying to set up my team for 2014. It's a treat to be able to process and absorb all this intriguingly intelligent information from some seriously clever people!

Anyway, I know it's very off topic, just wanted to pass on the praise that you absolutely deserve, SuperCoach Scores.

The only forum I bother to have a read of these days!

Hi JMAC, welcome aboard.
Thanks for the kind words. We like to think we have a little extra to offer than some of the other sites, and it's great to get feedback from people like yourself. :)

Rowsus, get to sportsbet, Carlton most supercoach points for season - Walker $3 kruizer $4 Gibbs $5 Murphy $6 - History says Murphy massive overs! Save on Gibbs.

I must admit, it does look like overs. Well spotted, and thanks, Pinnell! :)

It's on total points, not average. I think $10 is about right for Thomas, as it would be a semi-major surprise if he played more than 20 games.

Hey Rowsus,

Out of curiosity do you look at the spending breakdown for each line when you evaluate your team? I had a thought when re-jigging my team today that maybe there is a too much/too little amount when doing each group of positions. While it does depend on the position of the highly rated rookies it could be a case of 'need to spend more than $2.5 mill in defence (or forward)' or a cap that you would want to go over (say never go to $2.75 mill in back/forwards). Probably wouldn't be anything profound but could be interesting if past successful teams throw up a similar pattern?

Hey Krieks,
it's not generally something I look at. Once you have picked the best Rookies, your 2 Captain picks, and the best priced Keepers you can find with an eye on the bye rounds and keeping at least a slightly balanced team, the rest looks after itself. I don't think you need to add another pressure element, by constraining a certain area to "no more than this much". If you follow something similar to the above, and you're happy with your team, just let the chips fall where they may.

I've looked high and low for the RAMP for members but couldn't find a link anywhere... do I need subscribe to something? Thought I'd ask here instead of PM so others can have access. Seem like a tool I'd love to tinker with.

Is ruck cover for Sandi necessary? Surely he would go up in value enough to be a sideways trade by the time he's injured?

Hi Rowsus,

Got a quick one about Chad Wingard, do you think he will be a top 6 FWD come the years end and what do you think he will average???
I am favouring him over my previous F4 in Zorko atm and think that his price is irrelevant if he finished in the top 6. The $$$ I would save in going for a cheaper option is not too much of a worry as I am very happy with mother lines at the moment and think I'll find sufficient rookies in all positions.

Cheers Goodie.

Hmmm.... interesting that you know that RAMP exists, but don't know how to get a copy???!!!

How did that come about?

Follow this link, RAMP Score and Price Predictor, and read the bottom of post #1.

The problem is, you are assuming he get's through 4 or 5 games before disaster strikes. What if he doesn't? Given his history, there is a more than reasonable chance he'll miss a game in the first 5 rounds, and without cover it's a poor quality trade or a donut.
As Footyrulz points out in his thread, The ruck/forward saga, it's not just Sandi that needs cover, as not many good Rucks play 22 games. He's just an obvious example because of a) his history and b) his popularity this year.
Imagine getting caught needing to sideways trade Sandi after 2 or 3 rounds? Who could you get that isn't going to be a poor replacement at his price? I think if you have Sandi you would be taking too big of a risk, if you don't have cover or a good exit plan. As Footyrulz says, that could apply to most Rucks, but with the people like Sandi, Dawson and HMac, you are more likely to be saying "Damn it! I should have known I needed cover!"

I'm confident he should be top 8 to 10, I'm just worried about this little stat, and if Port slide backwards this year.
Wingard 2013: home wins, SC ave 115, all other games SC ave 89.
