A few overs left in day to play..

Well done Rogers on a century. Good effort after I been hoping he would leave team soon ...lol

Lets hope for big storms tomorrow, however Harris and Rogers need to see out these last few overs today.

hmmm... These are hours of play on cricinfo site....

Hours of play (local time) 10.30am start, Lunch 12.30-13.10, Tea 15.10-15.30, Close 17.30

So they already went 30 minutes past the scheduled finish time for day. Which is an extra 30 minutes already.
Why are they getting another 30 minutes on top of this after 6pm ?

Frrrkk. Now Steyn gets Harris..... Good luck to Steyn but not happy we are still playing this late after Harris already spent a good time blocking out balls for long time to scheduled close...

Game over.... last two wickets in last couple of minutes.

Good luck to South Africa somehow getting this extra time and Steyn bowled great.

Not happy with circumstances of rain very likely tomorrow and play was so late in day extended.

Hoping rain would save us after England got saved back in England when we looked like winning a Test or two.
Them the breaks... hopefully sunny there tomorrow or I'll not be happy if I hear it would have been rained out.

1 all in series....

3 for 219
Warner made 135 and Clarke working hard to build an innings.

Crucial early stages of this final Test of series.

If Aussies can get another century from Clarke, Smith or Watson it would be handy.
or even Haddin or Johnson...

Stumps on day one.
A day dominated by Australia. David Warner continued his purple patch, scoring his seventh Test century.
At stumps, Australia is 3/331. Michael Clarke is 92 (180), Steve Smith is 50 (92).

Hopefully Pup bring up another ton tomorrow, good to see him back in the runs. From what I've seen Morkel must have bowled a pretty good spell of short stuff to him but he got through it. Steve Smith has to be the most improved player going around, come back and within 9 months has just been superb and now a vital cog batting at 5/6 for us. Great to see!! :)

Pup gets to the ton after spending 25 delivers on 99. His 27th hundred.

100 overs gone, Australia is 3/371. Clarke is 111 (218), Smith is 71 (127).
Their partnership is worth 154 runs.

Smith out for 84...

Smith chops on !
A breakthrough at last for South Africa. A very ordinary delivery from Elgar, short and wide, Smith is back trying to force the ball, gets the inside edge and back onto the pegs. He is out for 84 (155).

Shane Watson joins Clarke, Australia is 4/401.

Rained ruined second half of the day's play.
With Australa 7 for 494 and 3 days left, just a matter of whether Clarke wants to bat on or put South Africa in already.

Personally I think he needs to have a discussion with bowlers first to see if they are keen for him to enforce follow on, therefore committing them to a long time out in field for 2 South African innings to get the 20 wickets.

If they say they are up to it, then Aussies should bat on and get probably another 70 to 100 runs if possible or bowled out, thereby giving them better chance of bowling South Africa cheap enough to be able to force follow on.
Lets say they got to 570, it then gives us some room to possibly bowl South Africa out for 370 or less in 1st innings, thereby have better chance of enforcing a follow on and still having back up 2nd innings if we needed it at all.

If we declared right now and South Africa made just over 300 in 1st innings then we lose ability to enforce follow on. Score a few more runs though before declaring and we got better chance of ability to bring follow on, into the game.

Clearly getting 20 wickets is 1st priority but you've got to access the wicket and get a feel first for realistic 1st innings score as par for 1st innings.
Given scores from our innings, you got to expect par score for South Africa is over 300 in 1st innings. Hence why I think why we should bat on a little more in morning to get our score a little higher in as quick time as possible.
