You're right about the rookies, probably don't have enough banked.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Yo-Yo and whether he'll bounce back (pardon the pun)

Sam Taylor is an interesting selection, he had 7/19 scores below 80 last year with 23, 35, 51 & 55 amongst them. I assume those scores occurred because of a lockdown role, I like the player and reckon he's a gun, it's just that I don't see him as a keeper or a player that'll make enough $ to warrant his selection, happy to be corrected on my opinion though. TBH I see Jackson, English, Day and Lukosius all in that range, I've looked at all of them, bar Day and Taylor for my side too.
definitely don't consider anything "stolen" haha, mate the awesome thing about this site is the free sharing of ideas! The things i like about the English selection is i) he doesn't need a huge improvement to be top 10 FWD ii) the flexibility it provides both to get a look at the best rucks for the year rather than selecting both straight up, as for the first time in a while the top 2 are not clear cut with Grawdy, Darcy, NN and even OMac in the mix plus and you can move him forward once you are ready to upgrade to your 2nd ruck and iii) the potential ruck DPP cover through the year in what will almost certainly be a covid disrupted year like what's happening in the BBL.

as you say dont think you could actaully roll with that sie probably 2-3 too many spec picks, but Luke Jackson an interesting one who you have there. Wouldn't select him myself as he will always sit behind Gawn but dont see how the Dees cant have him as best 22 every week now after his performance in the back end of the year and esp in the finals. might look in to him a bit more.

probably not the right thread but anyone else thinking we might end up with more trades overall and each week from the start to allow for covid issues? i have zero insider knowledge on this, just pure speculation on my behalf.
Hi guys. That team was just a bit of fun but I am now looking at how English can fit into my calculations. To answer your queries.

Sam Taylor. One of those guys that could break out this year. He did have some poor scores but he got better as the season went on and in his last 5 H&A games ave 100 with only one dud score of 55. His scoring may depend on how the opposition attack goal as I think his intercept marking is excellent and does a lot to boost his scores.

Luke Jackson. Is going to be a legend. I added him in because he fits with English R/F and guaranteed a game every week. His scoring will depend on how much they manage Gawn time. But Jackson is a dangerous forward. His scores when he kicked 2 or more goals in a game last year were 118, 113, 141 and 90. If he could ave 90 in the fwd line (which I think he could) that would be okay but tricky price at $389k.

Yoyo He has had a frustrating couple of seasons with injury. Can he bounce back absolutely and with added incentive to make up for the lost time. Clearly priced unders and with a new game plan at WC he can easily get back to his best. But that is probably ave 105 and if WC need to move away from home for an extended period due to covid that could change everything. At the moment he is in and out, up and down. Probably won’t have him in my final team.

North Melb.
Considering the effort North Melbourne went to recruit CCJ, I would be very surprised if he did not start.
Yeah spot on mate. Goldie our starting ruck obviously with CCJ and larkey you fwd. CCJ will have a run in the ruck to give Goldie a chop out. Essentially he will replace the xerri/Campbell role of last year.
Comben, xerri and edwardes will run around in the vfl for most the year. Huge wraps on comben but we won’t rush the kid, think he broke his collar bone at training after his first game??? Edwardes may get a run in the back half but he is very raw right now. Xerri couldn’t catch covid in vic right now, he will only play if one of Goldie, larkey or CCJ go in in the first 3 months

Nice looking side. Marshall a nice POD potentially, got him in my keeper league so wouldn't mind him taking the next step!

TT as a starter would be my main bone I think for reasons already discussed above haha. Would prefer Duncan as a starter and TT as an upgrade target.

Are you particularly bullish on Gresham or have you just slotted him in because you have the cash? I think I had CCurnow in my current draft for that cash cow / stepping stone option (alongside Cogs) but I think I could consider Gresham there too.
Thanks Bomber

I'm keen on Marshall if he is fit for the season, otherwise I'd say Sean Darcy is likely. I have pretty mixed feelings in picking Darcy because he's just had such a big break out, but I have even more reservations in picking an old Gawn with Jackson in the side continuing to improve. With Marshall I feel like Ryder will inevitably miss games and if Marshall stays/is fit he can score 110+.

I'm not bullish on TT at all so I can't defend the pick too much other than saying he's a solid pick with a touch of upside and I do still prefer him over Duncan due to age and injury concerns. At the moment I've changed my side to TT > Butters and Marshall > Darcy. I'm a lot more bullish on Butters as a better pick at his price with a move to the midfield being flagged, but he does carry an amount of risk TT does not have.

I'm not bullish on Gresham either but I think he could be a decent cash cow (he is partly in there because of the spare cash I have by finding value elsewhere), I have a little more confidence in him than Curnow due to the extent of Curnow's injury troubles and I think he always had a little potential to get up to the 90's range as a scorer, although that's not what I'd expect (more 80-85 and getting to 430-450k)

In not picking Steele and Macrae I'm gambling that they come out of the gates slightly slow by their own standards and I'm saving money in the process. Oliver is only in because he's a little bit cheaper. I think Petracca will hit the next level next year, I think he still had work to do in getting his fitness up to the absolute elite level last year after the shorter games suited him so well in 2020. His last 12 games including finals saw him average 124, so that could be a sign that his fitness was improving.

Agree on Gawn, I think Jackson probably will start eating into his ceiling. Similar thoughts on Darcy, I generally don't like picking players right after a big breakout but I do like his ceiling and scope for natural improvement (esp if he can have a strong preseason).

I have CCurnow mainly because he's essentially at the price of a premium rookie, feels similar to the Daniher pick last season. Feel like $300k is a bit awkward for Gresham (as it limits his cash cow potential) but I'd be open to it if he shows some scope to push a 90-95avg and become a quasi keeper. Not sold he'll do that as yet.

Oliver and Neale are the two mid locks for me - I'll need to give some proper thought as to which 1-2 of the Bont, Macrae, Steele, Trac, Titch types I take. I think I just have Macrae at the moment and then probably Steele is next in depending on structure (gone the opposite of you haha).

Fair enough on Curnow, if he looks good in preseason he's definitely a better pick than Gresham at such a cheaper price, it's all hypothetical this far out, who looks good as a midpricer will play out. Do you have any thoughts on Berry? I think an 85 average is very attainable with a little bit of upside for better, he appears to be over his injury concerns.

I can't fault picking any of those midfielders, they'll all be up there, like you I think the only ones I won't consider are Touk/Walsh due to them both having breakouts of sorts last season. Both will receive a lot more attention from the get go than they did last season. I was considering Titch over Bont, he really came good in the back half of last year as he overcame the shoulder reconstruction and could carry that form into next season, but he is turning 29 this year and looking at a lot of gun mids 29 is clearly an age where players either decline or fail to get back to their best, so that puts me off.

Berry is in for me at the moment! ~85 seems achievable for him, but will be role dependent. IIRC he would've played more inside mid in his previous 80+ years but not sure if he'll have the same scoring potential if he's playing wing/fwd.

Yeah nice one! I think he would be set to get some more inside mid time, it seemed like Zorko basically took a lot of his midfield time from him last season but that might not continue with Zorko getting a bit older. Lyons, Neale and Zorko were the main guys on the inside with Zac Bailey and a couple of others going through there a bit, McCluggage is still playing most of his time on the wing. It's not a midfield with a huge amount of depth so maybe his role change had as much to do with injury as anything else? I'd expect him to be 3rd or 4th in line for centre bounces, behind Lyons and Neale and in front or behind Zorko.

Not seeing too many sides with Horne-Francis but a lot of teams with Daicos. We don't know how well Horne-Franics would have scored at the u/18 championships but if you watch his SANFL highlights he looks very AFL ready and incredibly talented. He might not get the same midfield opportunity as Daicos and probably comes in as the 5th or 6th inside mid, is that everyone's logic?

Great stats! he has been in my side along with Daicos for a couple of weeks now as well. Daicos seems to be more of a skilful accumulator (less of an absurd athlete) who should get a good run through the midfield next year (my concern would be that he's a little small)

It's hard to go off highlights but watching these against grown men you get the sense that he will be ready to go and play well from day one.

In light of the Curnow discussion I thought about this article I read on what Voss might be able to do at Carlton.

Standard Guns & Rookies lineup for the time being - won’t worry about any Midpricers until the end of the Pre-season

Still early days but midpricers is once again, so risky. One crap game and you’re trigger happy to unload them

Only Sicily & Cogs are queries - the rest (premiums) I envision as keepers

Macrae / Steele / Oliver / Walsh are my picks for the mids so just running the 4 premium mid’s

Thanks to @gutsroy for his brilliant team picker resource assisting those of us without a Gold subscription.

Mostly $123,900 rookies as I have not bothered nor paid much (if any) attention to the draft, etc so far. Petrevski-Seton occupying a spot until options emerge in preseason as well as providing a possible structure I like, if I need to go that deep down back.
Great stuff, glad the tool actually worked!
Sorry, haven't been online, had a sporting accident before Christmas and tore both quad tendons, it's been quite the experience.🤒
The real hard work was.done by @HoleyFrijole$ scraping the prices 💪

Nice team mate, one of the first or only ones i've seen without Dunks and looks solid nonetheless. I think this is the right structure, 4 def prems, 4 uber mids and a value mid in neale, set and forget rucks and 2 prems forward and a couple of cheapo forwards to get you through.

I like all the prems you have selected here, darcy/grundy hasn't changed all pre season so far for mine and i haven't even considered swapping - even tho Gawn does seem to have a strong perceived decline (only small) in scoring for 2022, it will make me nervous not having him

I couldn't tell you who K.Coleman was if he was sitting right next to me! I'm interested to see if he is a half back flanker as forwards playing mid or in def based on 2021 are the best picks. I was ranked top 500 rd 1 last year, didn't start JZ and impey, got in jz rd 3 but missed the boat with all the other ones who went gang busters - just watched my overall rank wither away all season and ended up 6k, so i want to try and atlest be structured up to get these guys in without having to completely dismember the whole team.

Like it mate, i think my very first team a few weeks ago was very similar structure - have now found myself dropping the F3 to curnow, which in your case is dusty to be able to bring in fin macrae and Horne-Francis. My gut tells me all of daicos, macrae and JHF are good picks.

Hello everyone

I would appreciate some help with some questions:
  • How much remaining salary is considered sufficient?
  • How many players coming back from injury is considered too much?
    • Marchbank
    • Curnow
    • Whitfield - could get an injury blowing his nose
    • Hollands
  • Is Dunkley value for money consider the plethora of quality midfielders in the Footscray midfield?

Notes on the Team
Defence

  • Lloyd - Premium defensive player for a long time
  • Hall - Surprise packet from last year
  • Short - Scoring to improve with a more settled defensive unit
  • Whitfield - too cheap to ignore but very injury prone
  • Marchbank - Potential of very good growth and very unlikely to be omitted unless injured
Midfield
  • Macrae - Premium midfielder
  • Steele - 3 scores less than 100 in 2021 (91, 91 & 99)
  • Brayshaw - I expect a far bit of growth (scored 190 in round 20) due to:
    • Fyfe ongoing injuries
    • Mundy approaching 150 years old.
  • Neale - too cheap to ignore but very injury prone in 2020 - 2021
  • Rookies - I do not want to be chasing rookies like last year, premium price, set and forget
    • Horne - Francis
    • Macrae
    • Daicos
    • Ward
    • D. Stephens
Rucks
  • Darcy - scoring potential very high
  • Marshall
    • Is Ryder going to affect his scoring?
    • Different bye round (Darcy, Gawn, McInerney, and Grundy all have the same)
This is where I have had the most trouble, with the Gawn/Grundy looming large or are they on the way out?

Forwards
  • Dunkley - FOMO, still worried about that extended Footscray midfield
  • Martin - under priced and earmarked for more midfield time
  • Coniglio - he burnt me very badly last year, too cheap to ignore - boom/bust
  • Curnow - Potential of very good growth and very unlikely to be omitted unless injured
  • Rachele - I expect good job security, expecting mid range average scores (ticking over)
I would appreciate any feedback

Regards
TT
