One thing I don’t understand about T20 cricket. The Thunder had the screws turned tight with Sixers 1/8 after 4 overs. Sandhu bowled the 5th over, but the Thunder put the field out allowing at least a single off every ball, which I think released the pressure. The Sixers only scored 10 runs off that over, but with the pressure released I think it allowed the batters to play themselves in. I’m only a mug, but it doesn’t make sense to me to put the field out just because you can because the power play is over.

Agree with all of that. Add in Green bowls himself in the 6th when he is a pedestrian dart thrower, and Sangha is a wicket taking spinner. Foot straight off the gas.

Too many "paper" captains with everything being preprogrammed , a lack of awareness on how the game is actually being played and how to adjust accordingly.

Heaven's above if they actually tried captaining on instinct

Something that's come up a lot in the Ashes around England's red ball frailty (and specific players like Buttler) is the fact that short form cricket is a very formulaic game which allows batters to play to a structure, where Test cricket doesn't really have that and you have to be able to read the game to know at what pace you can push it along. I'd argue the flip side of this is with captaincy: it sometimes is too rigid in short form cricket and heavily data driven, which frees up the captain to think about other things but equally stops them from using their feel for the game to really go for the jugular when the situation demands it. Think how Mccullum captained NZ in the 2015 World Cup - that's the kind of proactivity you want to see.
