From a track observer:-

Hewett very impressive and arguably BOG. JSOS another one who just brought pressure and intensity to every contest, despite being undersized in a lot of match ups when the ball went towards him inside 50.

OMac looking very good and I have a feeling we'll play him over Young. Gov and Williams WILL bounce back. Lock in Kemp to play rd 1, and Philp to play early on in the season. Fisher will get a lot more midfield minutes and will star under Voss. Walsh was just Walsh. LOB will have a breakout year. Getting those games into Charlie last year has got his confidence way up, will be a huge factor in our success this season.

Very positive news on Hewett, Kemp & Curnow 👏
I don't know much about 20yo Defender $156,800 Kemp. He is 193cm, is he a key position player who won't score high?

Believe he is playing as a 3rd tall defender providing rebound.

Played as an inside/ big bodied mid towards the end of his junior career & excelled (there were Bont comparisons) after playing more in defence earlier in his career. He he did a knee unfortunately late in his draft year.

So he has natural ball winning ability/ think he should be able score decently.

Help me out here. Short, 123k mid rookie (if there is one), heeney vs Hewett, Rowell, Gresham. thanks
I agree with @Insane Wolf. I believe Gresham had some knee strapping or the like at the last session, which supporters interpreted negatively.

I have Short and Rowell, and had Heeney until the DPP changes.

Was terrible on disposal and likes the cheap kicks. Hall the man now and if they was a poor kick they can use Ziebell.

Gresham playing forward I thought, even think he said it himself this week as much as he would like midfield.

On another topic, with a number of injuries to rookies (Johnson, Hobbs), many not being able to play VFL last year and more talk around 2-3 year players than cheap rookies do well in preseason, feels like many side have too many cheap rookies right now.

My guess is rule changes to 35 allows us not to take risk with mid price break outs (although many will go this way with Rowell types), it allows us to drop a premium and pick more of the 200-300k players. Focus on cash generation early as we dont know if the rookies will come through this year or not due to Covid impact.

So what do we think on the following players:

McGov - will he get the back role. Does Kemp take that role? Where's Marchbank.........
Curnow - can he achieve an 80 average.
Finn Macrae - bulked up, will he get the mid minutes this year. who is in and out for the Pies midfield rotations.
Coleman - can he deliver the scoring off the backline. expect he may be semi popular.
Milera - looking fit, does he stay on the park risk. expect he could be popular.
Preuss - guessing wait and see. is he a worthy R3 after last years R2 rookie trial went pear shaped by round 3-4.

Then you have the JHF, Daicos, Stephens, Ward type $202k and less players. Coniglio is just a lock for many.

This is before the Grundy's, Butters, Heeney, JDG, Dawson grace our teams where we hope they deliver this year.

Have there been any reports on Lipinski's role at Collingwood?
From what I understand he’s likely to attend a lot of centre bounces. So far he’s been mainly mid at training, occasionally switching forward (often switching with De Goey).

As a result De Goey is seemingly playing less mid than some might like. It’s still early days for him back at training though, so that could change.

Thanks. He's not a priority at that price but could fill a hole if that's how much money is left. The rnd 14 bye helps.

Anyone have access or a link to an accurate player and price list that I can easily mod in Excel? Using this list here, but I have come across sever errors already ... https://www.couriermail.com.au/spor...n/news-story/67e8aa28a6dffb193fca6ca54336b6f7
edit: needed to get stuck into it and so have gone ahead and used that source... and hopefully will not be too many mistakes. Happy to share if anyone wants a (admittedly probably broken) excel file.

Maybe I'm clutching as straws, but for those who don't want to go set and forget, at around 218k is B Williams worth a look this year? haven't heard his name much on the threads, is DPP, about the same price as an expensive rookie and with Jack Darling up in the air might be an option?

So Lipinski could become fwd/mid, ?

I’d say it’s possible, but if the current setup persists probably not. If he and De Goey keep switching and JDG is just building into greater fitness/more mid time, it could make sense that Lipinski gets M-F, but in practice I doubt the two would repeatedly switch positions like that in a proper game. I imagine they’d be rotating through those positions and the bench, for example.
