I'm struggling to fit Lloyd in, although I'm not sure he separates himself from the chasing pack as Sydney get better anyway.
Short without Houli and lots of work for Richmond defenders.
Ridley loosened up. Does it give him more kick ins?
Ryan loosened up with returning KPD.
Sicily having a great preseason.
Is Whitfield healthy?
Aaron Hall and Daniel Rich with new bruise free roles collecting the easiest points in Supercoach with the new AFL rules.
Dawson with some inside work to complement a good kick on a bigger ground.

Thanks, that makes sense re role and fitness.

I think I have Milera ahead at this stage, given Milera has shown that 85-90 scoring potential before over a stretch but ofc comes with the obvious injury risk.

I think I’d prefer to take neither if possible but early signs seem to suggest we may not have enough reliable DEF starter rookies
I'm very happy to take both if fit and in the right roles. Both can average 90s, imo, which means they'll match the best of the rookies in cash generation while providing amazing on-field scoring.

I think last year really confirmed to me how much value is in the right role and those 200-300k guys in SC.

Of course if there are great looking rookies, I'll take them instead/as well!

Lloyd is just a nice safe play. Blakey I don't think helps but no Dawson or Mills means he's the clear main guy there and should have a juicy rebounding role. I think he's safe to average basically what he has with the potential to push back to 110+ with a couple of good games.

Mostly I'm uncertain on the others to some degree...

Short - Exceptional rebounder but he's almost too attacking for his own good, doesn't get those cheap kicks first, just takes it and goes. He might be maxed out if he doesn't add that as can't see him becoming a key intercept player for them.

Ridley - Makes sense, love him, need to see it first though because he should have had both of that last year and didn't.

Ryan - Weirdly he might actually score better as the KPD, might be the "I've got him for speed so can afford to space off more" mentality, I don't know but he's score some of his best stuff playing as a KPD, especially in 2020. Love him though and happy to pick him if he looks great in preseason.

Sicily - Lot of questions there, value could be immense if it works out though.

Whitfield - Good question, if he is, will he stay healthy? Great value though, hard to not start him if he's fit just on pure scoring potential.

Hall/Rich - Agree entirely. Not sure why but I don't entirely trust Rich to back it up, but Hall you can make a very sound case is underpriced.

Whilst there is value in Sicily, feels like everyone has forgotten how frustrating he can be, roller coast ride and thats not including going forward (not suggesting he will).

Opposition focus on him and he can throw up some poor scores. Hawks will be happy for Jiath to take the intercepts when Sicily receives attention.

Hot head - recent preseason game Sicily was getting physical with his team mates, time out of the game - doesn't sound like he has found his zen. Lets face it, he wouldn't look out of school wearing Cobra Kai colours.

I think Sicily will play his usual role across half back that’s his best position I don’t really rate him as a fwd. in rebuild mode you start with your defence and go from there like Richmond did. Jiath is a good player but he will still push up the ground with his run and carry I think his got more freedom to do that now Sicily is playing that intercept role. At 448k I think his worth a D4 spot. Should take kick ins as well.

Pretty clear to me, as I have similar thinking.

Rich played the same role he has for several years and randomly started getting three to four more disposals over his previous average. I got him last year because I felt he was discounted but wasn't expecting a career year. At age 32, with a career year at 31, I don't think there's many if any that have done that let alone backed it up the next year.

Hall, OTOH, new role part way through the year, plays to his strengths and hides his considerable weaknesses a lot more. Assuming he keeps that role for a whole year it's almost a no brainer.

Could there be an argument made for Jeremy Howe at his price?
I mean it can but with his terrible durability record and the word being that Pendles is going to HB and Daicos also to be eased in through there as an elite ball user I don't particularly love the narrative.

I mean he's a ****, we get that and like any KPD he's got variability in his scoring but, honestly, I don't care if he's scoring 105 range again.

The only issue I have with Sicily is that they've got literally a half dozen other rebounding defenders playing for them when they had none when he last played. They've also got another two intercept guys in over that period.

Even assuming they push Bramble to the midfield (they should) and Day to a wing then you still have Jiath, Impey, Hardwick and Scrimshaw who all want to rebound at every chance and DGB who is as talented a intercept player as has come through in recent years. Does Sicily end up playing a more team role to allow those guys to flourish?

That's my huge concern, there's no history of teams with 8 names all scoring premium. As good as that batch was and as heavily supplied as they were, not one of them hit premium numbers, adding another one doesn't help that equation. I mean look at Melbourne where you've got 3 guys, none of them can get to premium. 3 is about as high as I can recall any team ever being able to produce on premiums and generally the real premiums come from sides with 2 clear guys. I think Ridley/Heppell/Hind was another trio that really suffered from this last year.

The Rich breakout may be a result of the rule changes, there was definitely a sort of league wide benefit to HB types and it probably suited him more than anyone given he's never going right so the man on the mark would always be able to shade him and slow him down but I don't see any upside to him, he feels maxed out, so you can target him at that price at any point in the season and probably even cheaper.

I will leave 3 spots open as might get some outsiders do well with new dpp by round 6 I hope
I wouldn't expect too many to be honest. The DEF position scores higher than forwards historically so those forwards that get DEF tag are almost always better left forward and most of the midfield DPP changes are to forwards because that's where you rest an underdone star. Pendles seems the standout exception right now who absolutely could punch out a 105+ season but I'd be surprised if there are more than 2 DPP changes total that shift over as top 5 defenders and I'd be very surprised if anyone jumps over as an absolute must have other than maybe Pendles. Not unless SC employ a very different positional change criteria to AFLF where midfielder reclassification generally needs a solid average drop accompanying it.

Interested in what people think about Maynard. Clearly a very talented footballer, and one that I can see playing in the middle, but want to know what Pies fans think about his future as a fantasy player.

North Melb.
Latest round of a team has $1M to spend on two defenders at D3 and D4.

Anyone got any better options than somebody + Sicily?

Maybe need to re-jig as an extra $40k opens up a lot more options

One player who is going massively under the radar is Luke Ryan. I don't think I've seen anyone mention him at all. He was a little underdone going into last season but he's normally quite consistent and I'd be very surprised if he's not up there again. My only concern is maybe if Young or Clark are given a few more kickins.
