Unless you are certain a midprice ruck can become a +115ppg premium ruck, then you might as well take a midpricer on another line. The reasoning for this is that if your midpricer ruck doesn't become a premium, then they are a stepping stone and the window of opportunity to upgrade a ruck stepping stone is very small compared to other lines.

In the rucks, the number of available premiums to trade into is smaller than other lines. In the midfield for example, there are 10-15 players that you might want to trade a stepping stone into, so the chance of one of those players being at a reduced price when you want to make the trade is fair. In the rucks, there are only 2-3 players you might want to trade into, so the chance that one of those being at a reduced price when you want to trade is not good.

Additionally, if your midpricer fails, you are pretty much stuck for options in the ruck. In any other position, you have options for trading out a failed midpricer.

Edit: I will also add that if you are planning to upgrade your stepping stone to a full priced ruck (ie, their price hasn't dropped), then you might as well pay full price for that ruck at the start of the season and get all the points. Use a stepping stone on another line to get a cheap premium on that line instead.

Pretty much. Honestly, if you look at last year a starting ruck line of say Gawn/Hickey/Flynn would have been a better option than set and forget. It's just getting the rest right, and someone who can nail a better ruck line than set and forget will probably also pick an 'IF'fy selection or two that doesn't work elsewhere.
Maybe in hindsight at season's end but live it most likely wouldn't have, as someone who had Grundy/Hickey/Flynn, you still had that round 5 injury that Hickey was going to miss 6+ weeks with. Anyone who held him through that obviously had so many other issues to deal with that it probably doesn't matter. Sure, if you jagged it and actually held a 420k guy on your bench for a week it all worked out swimmingly but I can tell you that you're a stronger man than me if you actually did it (or, again, had way bigger issues!), especially as Mumford was cementing his spot and killing Flynn! At least if you had Gawn instead of Grundy you wouldn't have tanked your season by paying top dollar for him to be the 4th best ruck from then forward

Ex Eagle Karl Langdon made mention on Perth radio that his info is that Luke Strnadica, who has been training with the Eagles, will be signed up. He got a foot niggle at training recently but Eagles still looking to bolster ruck stocks. Aged 24 he has kicked 61 goals in 69 WAFL games and previously had been on the Dockers list but never played an AFL game. Possible $102k R/F?

Excellent- yep 102k would be my guess & 3rd choice ruck after NN & Bailey Williams. WCE play a lot of late round games so could be a good R3 that has a chance of playing & can pair up with Comben in the fwds 😎

Rowan Marshall is really starting to intrigue me. I think there is a stack of upside for Rowan Marshall if he is over his foot issues and understand that is a big if.

Averaged 98.6 last season and had a game where he was subbed off and other games where his TOG was unusually low as he was being eased back in after injury.

Taking out his injury game against Geelong and his "return" games in round 4 and 15 where his TOG was low and he averaged 112.1 with a body that was never quite right.

Showed that he has the massive ceiling and also showed that he can score when playing with Ryder with scores of 86, 107, 100, 95 and 127 last season.

If he shows up in ripping nick for the practice matches he is definitely one to consider. Has shown the ability to average 110 over a season not that long ago and hitting prime age for a ruck he may be ready to break out.

All depends on his role, those good scores at the end of season were without Ryder who is a better ruck than fwd vs Marshall.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Strnadica ahead of Bailey Williams to start the season if fit.... He is more aggressive than Williams in the ruck, and a better option forward when you take into account Williams shocking kick at goal.

Strnadica could be a real handy SC pick during the year especially if he is a R/F... should play quite a few games.

I see Draper making his way into a lot of teams, is he really a better option than Jackson?
I really like Draper as a long term prospect but would need to see something special in preseason to be considering him.

Think he's definitely behind Jackson on the pure DPP factor that Jackson has way more utility and a much broader range for ending up a keeper pick.

Like if Jackson gets to 90 and Draper gets to 100, Jackson is still the better pick purely because he's at least a tolerable F6 at that point if the position doesn't go bonkers (I think it could).

Going to be close between him and Reeves as main ruck along side McEvoy who will largely play forward. I doubt they play all 3 and would say Reeves is probably slightly ahead of Lynch, but not sure. As for scoring, I wouldn't expect massive scores, I expect he will get more of the McEvoy role in 2023 (forward / ruck). He will likely get games, but probably not every week.

My opinion only, could be entirely wrong.

My opinion is you could make a case for handcuffing him to Reeves, I think you'll see one of them most weeks so if you were taking the punt on Reeves then definitely could be worth paying for the handcuff.

That said, not a huge fan of either pick alone unless one of them goes down at this point, will still be a pretty genuine ruckshare.

Even if Gawn has less ruck time, he still scores with his contested marking
My thinking also, if he’s not in the ruck he’s playing forward. In a good team he has the game style to kick 25+ goals imo. I’m 1 year off going against Gawn. I think next year is when Jackson breaks out. Also think max will be on a mission to prove last year wasn’t a fluke. Picking Clarry also for this reason. Monitoring the Goody situation though cause that could affect my choosing if it turns into a complete circus

Simple fact with Gawn for me is that he averaged 113 over the last 2/3 of the season as Jackson emerged and took on more and more responsibility and they eased him through it.

Gawn is good enough to still average amazing but 113 would hurt from his starting price. I honestly just wish there was a genuine option to not start two premiums as I'd love a sighter on Darcy and Gawn.

Just think how much exciting and interesting SC would be if we only had 1 Ruck position to pick in our starting teams then had to pick a F/R as a back up option (if required) 😀

Do you regard Preuss as an option?
