On restricted duties atm - will likely be eased into it up fwd
My mail is hes pacing himself and not expecting too much from himself, likely start forward and move into the midfield in the back half of the season as he gains match fitness and overall confidence in his body, would pick him fully fit but not sure what you're going to get in the first 6 to 8 weeks to be honest.

Will likely get a better update closer to the season though, one of my good mates is his cousin so it tends to be fairly reliable.

I've never had Wingard in my team, admittedly I've only been playing for 2 1/2 years, so I've never been burnt. I do like looking at players that finish the previous season strongly and if they continue with that role during pre-season then I'm 'all in'.

I haven't heard much at all about him but he finished last year with an average of 114 over the last 5 games playing predominately as a midfielder. I spose he's a bit of a watch at his price given that there's a few others capable of 105 at cheaper prices. But geez, 114.........

I don't think he's a bad option if fit and playing midfield - the problem has always been both those statements

I'm not either, but he's definitely on my watch/upgrade list.
Had Wingard twice.

Once when late in season he was given mid time, picked him up around 400k and he was a key POD. Think he was Port at the time and traded in o***eason following it.

Then started him at Hawks discounted at $450k, disaster, bit like Bolton. When someone is a good forward, often they are thrown that way eventually when the team is not scoring.

As a forward he is an 80 players with some low scores thrown in, mid he can be 100-120.

Would only consider him late in the season when role is set and he is the last forward upgrade.

I must admit I haven’t given him much thought either, but I haven’t heard much about him getting mid time from the training reports I’ve seen.

You would think that the Hawks are experimenting a fair bit in preseason though, given they have a new coach and intend to change the game plan.

Wingard hurt himself a couple of weeks ago, think it was a rolled ankle. He wasn't a part of the last intra club, so his role is not certain at this stage. I don't think he's far off returning, hopefully he is a part of the game against Carlton later this week and that we get some reports on it (closed to the public), that would give people more idea where he's likely to play.

I have a bit of trouble remembering whether Mitchell took over the reigns over the last 5 games, if he did then there's an obvious move of Wingard to the mids and he'll stick with it this year

This was the last I'd heard on him and was pretty close to enough to rule him out, as someone who has been burned by him MANY times (I think it's 4 in SC alone and more in other formats!). Basically he's a 100-110 type as a midfielder and he's really good at it but every coach he's ever had goes to him as the answer the second they struggle to score goals and given he's playing in a side with not much forward of centre that's a huge concern.

He's also got a terrible durability record and does not play at all well when carrying the slightest of injuries so he tends to tank for a few weeks and then miss a couple of games, then you dump him at rock bottom and he comes back and averages amazing from that point onward...

He'll play a great role in preseason, tempt me into it again and then blow up in my face, it is inevitable.

With Oscar Allan in doubt for round 1 should Bailey Williams be considered at only 218k?
Unless Strandica is signed up and beats him to the role, he should get the position of R2/F3 for the Eagles. Not sure I want him playing more forward role than ruck. The Eagles first 7 games are average to above average for attractiveness.

So do you see value in him if he plays?
He has played that role previously and achieved about a 55 ave with 80min TOG. Even with 100mins he needs to show more.

I considered him then let skipped him as the role he will get is no different to what he has done previously, so he has to improve and that is a harder call. No.2 tall forward would not be ideal, prefer the R2 role and third forward that he has done previously.

so the answer is no unless preseason game he shows a large improvement, which is possible as he is 21 years old. He need to the deliver closer to 75 average. The other question is what TOG NN receives as he stepped up in the 2H of the season, was this due only to push for finals or is he slowly regain fitness from ACL and that he will maintain at the start of 2022 season.

At 199cm he is bigger than the solid mobile forward like Darling 191 or Oscar Allen 193, hence I don't rate the forward role for him.

Id hope we have better options than a raw 218K Bailey Williams playing mostly forward, really dont see how he scores sufficiently playing that role unless hes improved a hell of alot in the pre season.

Id be staggered if they didnt sign a genuine mobile forward option off the SSP though, Darling and Allen really dont play the type of role Williams could fill IMHO.
