With the announcement of the weekend fixtures, I will open...

EVENT #3 - Ladbrokes UK Open

Team selection takes a different shape for this big field event. Salary cap is replaced by group selections. Team selection is at it's toughest for the season to begin, with 16 selections being required to be selected for Day 1 play.

The 2nd days play is subject to change should there be 6 eliminations of top 8 players in Round 4. I will put a rule of thumb in now. Should only 4 players survive from the 1-8 bracket in Round 4, then the 1-8 bracket will be dropped and rest will apply across the board with a maximum of 3 players being allowed to be selected from the 1-8 bracket. I will update the table ahead of Saturday’s trading period should this apply.

Here are the updated and final brackets from the guide that was posted last week.

*Note No.111 Unterbucher & No.72 Koltsov are withdrawals so far.

The details around team selection is as follows:

*Players are selected from colour brackets using the above team selection and player tables as a guide.
*Captain x2 and VC x1.5. Default captaincy will revert to highest ranked player if not stipulated.
*Doubling applied to all scoring methods apart from the bonus which is an additional 5 points for selecting and holding the UK Open winner throughout the event.
*Should there be a withdrawal during a tournament, that is the luck of the draw, and no replacement player or points will be awarded.

LOCKOUTS:
The first round lockout is at 10pm AEDT on Friday evening. Participants will be made aware of Day 2 and 3 lockout times as matches are locked in for those days.

Entries can be simply posted in the thread or via PM to myself. If a participant chooses to PM their entry it will be disclosed after lockout has closed.

I will reserve the next post as I work on or find a better presentation of the bracket draw than wiki has, to assist with team selection.

Good luck!

Will tag those that may not have seen this

I will kick off the public entries with a tentative one. Still doing some research and will possibly make changes post the Premier League.
My advice is to just have a crack. I found it very challenging to put a team together, with no great expectation coming from my selections.

I found it easiest to decipher the draw using the 3rd Rd of the wiki page.

Screen Shot 2022-03-01 at 1.56.59 pm.png
Hempel through to the 3rd round. Good vs Kay 1st Rd. Warner vs Wenig 1st Rd. Winners meet, and winner plays Hempel.

Screen Shot 2022-03-01 at 2.02.19 pm.png
This shows a straight up 3rd Rd match between Barney and Borland

Screen Shot 2022-03-01 at 2.02.33 pm.png
This shows Williams and Schindler meeting in the 2nd Rd with the winner to play Smith

Screen Shot 2022-03-01 at 2.02.43 pm.png
This shows a combination with Peters vs Marsh 1st Rd. Winner plays De Vos in 2nd Rd. Winner plays Huybrechts in 3rd Rd.

Just giving an example of how the groupings may assist selections and found this easiest from the 3rd Rd.

This is a captain obvious statement when saying the biggest thing to consider is how far players get, however the biggest thing I’m finding when building a team is the leg change.
Part of the reason I’m 2-2-2 across round entry atm is that I think that the Rd 3 entry guys, depending on luck of the draw, may be better equipped to knock off a higher seed due to being a better caliber of player and I’m taking into consideration Rd 4 matches switching from 11 to 19 legs.
It’s going to be a bit of skill and a bit of luck and to be honest you can present all the stats in the world, but like we have found all the way along that luck will play it’s part because all these guys can beat each other on the day.
It’s actually a fun tournament to pick because there is so much strategy that can be employed when selecting.

Any suggested readings? The first 3 groups are easy enough, but I have no idea about the green group... Or is it just like throwing darts and hoping for the best? :)
