ITB $161.2k

Not quite sold on the backline, i don't think we will get 5 defense rookies lining up to debut in round 1
I can upgrade a rookie to a mid pricer like Kiddy Coleman, but i just don't see the love for him and can't justify starting him

I'm locked into starting Dunks, Heeney, Butters & Cogs in the fwd line so cant sacrifice much there
I feel like starting any less than 4 Prem mids is sacrificing too many points but would make sense to fix my backline woes, or just move Berry to a rookie and get a Sicily type at D4 but i am very keen to start Berry and believe he can get back to his 2020 form

Thoughts?
Overall I don't mind the structure and picks. I think ultimately your hand (like all of ours) will be forced by the rookies. If the defender depth isn't there, or there are just too many cash generating mid ones, then you'll probably have to cut a mid premium to make sure you get the overall balance right. Otherwise it's probably compromising one of your other plans (no Coleman, starting Dunkley) to free up enough cash to take Kemp to a Hewett/Sicily type.

Personally I'm not sure ~2.1M for the 3 top mids will gain enough upside for some of the other risks, especially if rookie JS and covid impacts become an issue, but that difference is what makes SC interesting!

Probably one other thought - if you do go only 2 premiums + Whitfield down back, I would potentially change Stewart to a Crisp type with a huge durability upside. Rookies could be problematic there so you don't want the added durability risks of some of the others. Alternatively, Whitfield to Crisp creates a very strong top 3 down back, and leaves enough cash for back rookie to Hinge if he is looking like strong on field option.

Like the Brayshaw pick, had him last year. A player who did score 190 and on the improve. Him, Parish, Petracca am keen on instead of Mitchell.

I don't know if I'm doing this right but my plan is to just have 7 upgrades to get to a 'complete' team which would have Hewett at D6, Berry at M8, Witts at R2 and Cogs at F6. Ideally this would be by rnd 13 but holding JHF and Daicos till rnd 14 would be ok. I'm not fazed by using some of the boost trades and/or the extra trades over the byes to get there.

So in finer detail:

MIDS: I've deliberately gone with value picks and a couple of C options. I just love watching Touk play and with his low ownership I'm happy to roll with him. Mitchell I feel is about 10PPG underpriced, same with Parish, Neale is too cheap to pass up and Berry seems a no brainer. This line is the 1st that I'll be targeting for upgrades and I'll be using my MP's like Rioli, Coleman and Curnow to help facilitate because of their embedded value, initially the targets will be Macrae, Steele, Oliver et al. They're going to be expensive buys but I think it's manageable. With some luck I'll be moving JHF Fwd and Daicos back, so whilst not losing rookies on field I think the team will be strengthened overall.

DEF: Again I'm trying to go for value but I still need a competent D1 to go up against Lloyd and happy to run with Stewart. The targets for me ATS are Lloyd, Rich and Ridley, others could present and I'd be happy to jump on them.

FWD: Geez there's so much value (in my eyes) that it's damn hard to pick the players that will be top 8 especially with the DPP additions, I think that the player I'm missing is Butters, but the others (in my mind) are demanding to be be picked. I'm trying to be careful by not overloading on this line as my upgrade targets would be Dunkley, Duncan and possibly Zorko and Marshall, so there might be some luxury trades happening after the byes.

I'm very aware that cash generation is the key to this team but it's also important to not lose too much over the initial rounds before upgrades, maybe my MP's will help there considering I'm fading a lot of last years top scorers, I think it was @Herbie66 that quoted there were 33 players last year that made 150k and 17 of those weren't rookies. I'm not expecting my MP's to make that much although it would be handy.

I've loaded up (I think) with my bench rookies, both for JS (Covid) and earning potential.

It'd be handy to get some feedback as I could be (probably am) on totally the wrong track.

Love the Mitch Hinge selection, if he is likely to get a start and play early he will be definitely worth the pick, the injury history and js is the concern though

Cant see myself not starting Macrae and Steele, could do without Oliver but love having the 3 mids and 2 rucks as captain/vc options each week
Dunkley 53% owned, hes going to be the #1 forward and its safer to start him instead of fading him, might have to move one of heeney/butters to Sicily if the rookies don't show down back

I have looked at changing Stewart to Crisp, i started Stewart last year and he was amazing so i have a bit of bias towards him, but Crisps durability is perfect and probably will end up in my team if i have too many injury prone players

I think the defence has the best rookie stocks this year in all honesty but well get a better read after this weekend, least theres 6 or 7 that really should get named, in the midifeld you get past JHF and Daicos and it looks very dodgy IMHO, up forward we have Rachele and Durdin who are both small forwards and that's about it, right now think the best structure is to go light down back and go as deep as possible everywhere else.

That currently backs up my structure and gives me some confidence going into this weekends praccy rounds.

It's interesting to see something a bit different! If it pays off you'll be laughing but for mine, the risk profile of this team is a bit too high. The main challenges I see are:

Cash Gen - I probably only see 10 players that will increase significantly enough in value to be cashed in for upgrades. At best that means 5 down, and 5 up to premiums. If some of the "unlikely" types surprise you maybe get 12 and 6 down, 6 up. That still leaves you one short of your planned 7 upgrades, and probably waiting on 2-3 of the second wave rookies to increase enough before they can be traded.

No Mans Land - There is a real danger your team ends up here.. "completed" but with 1-2 spots per line performing well under the average. Hewett at D6 could work, and I'm half planning on Coniglio getting to a respectable F6 level and being potentially more of a luxury upgrade. Berry as M8 and Witts as R2 though sound like a real issue - Witts could easily be giving up 30 points per week to everyone else's R2, and Berry potentially 20ish points. 50 points per week is huge, as it requires all your other selections to break even and C choices to be perfect. Basically you have very little room to move.

Line Strength - The extension of the above is you are committing to locking in the weakest positions on each line. I prefer to look at them as a safety net spot - if a starting selection falls a bit short of your initial keeper projection, the can most likely still sit as a respectable D6/M8/F6 etc. Coniglio is great example, at his value he can land as F6 and it be workable. The worry I have is that if any of your other starting selections under perform, you could end up with a backline of D1, D2, D3, D6, D6, D6 and that amplifies the points bleed.

Durability/Role - Given some of the above risks, the players you have need to be just about as reliable as they come. Stewart (injury return), Whitfield (injury), Hewett (role uncertainty), Parish (issues with tag), Witts (injury), Treloar (injury), Heeney (role, injury), Curnow (injury) all come with question marks. While we are all going to be starting players with some of these risks (oh for the perfect, risk free team!) I feel like it's a few too many.

Personally I would probably do:
(subject to teams etc)

Rioli - Hinge

And then look to upgrade Witts. If you need more cash you could probably go Curnow -> mid rookie (via Rachele). Depending on cash left over you could potentially upgrade Whitfield or Hewett (or try for Treloar to Dunkley), but they've be secondary objectives for mine.

We have only 5 premiums the same so not sure I'm best to comment on this one! Very much like the structure, would prefer Berry over Lipinski, and then would upgrade one of the forward premiums to someone slightly more reliable (Martin, Dunkley), but otherwise think it looks as good as any pending the rookie picture clearing up!

Running with a similar structure in the backs so no issues there, really strong midfield but I think you need Neale, alot of the rookies from M8 down will probably not play. Forward line is too weak for mine, I'd be going one less premo in the mids, going Bont of Parish down to Neale and strengthening the forward line. Only looks like 11 premos, probably one short of what you want.

Have chopped and changed this a lot, but feeling fairly settled. May need to try to get Maginnes up to Ward/ Stephens but we'll see.
Could need to drop Steele down to a Parish/Mitchell if we're really short on rookies come round 1.

Have toyed like most people with ruck options but think it's a no brainer now that Preuss doesn't seem to be preferred Darcy seems to be carrying niggles already. Marshall is the only other one that I'm tempted by, but we'll wait and see.

Any thoughts appreciated :)

That forward line is seriously scary! I agree with @AngryAnt that Neale for his price looks a lock, not just for his scoring but his popularity will be very high so not starting him carries extra risk. Rookies are also a big concern, understand they might be placeholders until we get more clarity but I would probably allocate some funds to a few higher priced ones and then work backwards from there. Probably need a Stephens/Ward/Davies type at M8, and don't see there being 2 viable 102k rookies in the mids (even if one is a donut pick).

Backline and rucks both look well balanced - like the picks and then they're pretty set barring some rookie surprises. I would "break" Bont or Parish into a rookie and use those funds to upgrade both Gresham and Rayner. There is just too much good value in the $450-500k range to not start at least 1-2 of Butters, Thomas, Sidey, Heeney, or Martin (to name a few, might be missing some). If funds allow you might be able to keep one of them as a speculative pick, but I don't think all 3 of Gresham, Rayner and Brodie work given there is just too much role uncertainty and too much risk, and on a line where rookie depth just doesn't feel like it will be there.

I'd also potentially rethink 3 premiums from the same team (Macrae, Bont, & Dunkley) as all it'll take is a small covid impact (positive test, moved game, etc) and your battleship is well and truly sunk.

I actually don't mind this team! Probably the only pick I don't like is Rayner, but I'm struggling to see a different option that isn't either A) Completely changing the overall structure or B) Just trading your speculative pick for mine (eg, Coleman). Rookie balance and fund allocation looks good, and there is a good mix of premiums with good history/durability to o***et some of the slightly riskier ones (that we'll all have a couple of anyway). See how the preseason games play out but overall I think it's in as good place as it can be until rookies become clearer!

Rayner to Coleman and M8 could have problems (as well as M9 and M10). Pretty good otherwise.

Getting bored waiting , so have gone back to Cookie Cutter until the next round of practice matches.

Rookies obviously will change once Round 1 teams are announced , $ adjustment should allow for a 12th premium

Rucks will change

LLOYD , WHITFIELD * , SICILY , Coleman * , Gibcus , NWM * / Sinn * , Kemp

MACRAE , STEELE , MITCHELL , NEALE , Berry , JHF , Daicos , Ward / D Stephens , Erasmus , Hobbs

GAWN , DARCY / Preuss

DUNKLEY * , HEENEY , Coniglio * , Curnow , Rachele * , McCartin * / Durdin , Maginness *

$ 13,500.00

11-4-7

Hopefully this is realistic (and achievable) 😀

LLOYD , WHITFIELD * , SICILY , Coleman * , Hinge , McCartin * / Kemp , Dean

MACRAE , STEELE , BRAYSHAW , NEALE , Berry , Horne-Francis , Daicos , Ward (or D Stephens) / Sinn * , Maginness * , Mead

GAWN , GRUNDY / Hayes

DUNKLEY * , HEENEY , BUTTERS , CONIGLIO * , Curnow , Rachele * / Durdin , De Koning *

Hopefully 13-3-6

Bit of wriggle room on the bench for $ when teams drop

$ 10,400.00 in the Bank

Thoughts welcome
