My number one rule is never bag out any player too harshly because I don't want that baggage holding me back from picking them when I rationally should.
Just do what I do every year, bag them out all pre season but end up getting sucked in and watch them break down and wonder why the **** I picked them in the first place.

The I've watched too much pre season footy squad, highly doubt I'd actually do this but I honestly don't hate it. View attachment 40166
Really like it tbh, literally only 4 players different I think to mine after viewing the game last night & fitting a few blues in to see how the team looked.

Think having so many high priced mid rookies on the bench is excessive though - Stephens I think is the best one to keep / best job security.

I just dont think any of the cheap mid rookies are going to play ultimately I'd rather go cheap and improve elsewhere but honestly right now I think we get MacDonald and that's about it.

Reckon we'll be seeing a lot of McCartin, Durdin, even Sinn priced players on benches this season.
Im looking at it a bit differently this year, happy to pay more if the rookie is actually going to play and have a reasonably secure spot in the side, just dont think the basement options are there this year unfortunately.

Absolutely, if it means having to forego some higher priced premiums that's what we're going to have to do. Starting to think that rolling with a mid three of Macrae, Steele and Touk might eat up too many funds for genuine rookie options.

My original side had Macrae,Steele,Touk and Neale but starting to look at going with cheaper combinations to be able to afford inflated rookies and McGovern/Coleman sort of picks.

Sitting on this/ playing around with structures after watching last night’s game - by slotting Cripps & Hewett in it certainly allows you to strengthen your bench options

Not sold on it, but don’t hate it either / normally I am very much Guns & rookies but we have far less viable cheap rookies this year so need to adapt accordingly.

Not sure how to feel about that proclamation given this is 95% my team!
Think its the sort of squad that if the magnets all fall your way you're looking at a very good season, just not sure I want to have that higher risk profile in my squad, not much durability there.

Despite all my ramblings about Marshall I've done away with him for the time being but I will go back to him if I need more money for rookies and can't afford two of Steele, Macrae and Oliver.

And I'll add my second version:

Side designed to allow more expensive rookies, I don't see myself needing to spend more than this. Preference is also Macrae > Steele if money allows it. If necessary to free up cash I'll take the punt that Marshall gets DPP at round 6 or 12, as long as he stays injury free I like him as a pick. Durdin's injury apparently just a knock.

Is there anything actual definite about this whole Marshall thing? Even if we got 3 or 4 weeks of a Campbell/Hayes combo it could be huge for kick starting his cash gen potential.
