Even with our full midfield he's still around 4th/5th mid, which is about where Berry sits too. Yet Berry is a lock and Caldwell a trap 🤔.
Who is he ahead out of McGrath , Merrett , Parish , Shiel & Stringer ?

Just curious as I don't know the pecking order at all.

Difference is Berry can score playing on the wing and doesnt rely on bulk CBA's, Caldwell isnt in the midfield his scoring output drops off massively.

It's pretty clear Caldwell is going to be a very good footballer (still played less than 15 games mind you). Don't think you can write him off at his price tag regardless of midfield rotation. Is it because he is mid only? That really shouldn't make a difference as a cash cow option.

Berry, Caldwell and potentially after today Polec (named on a wing) all present as interesting options IMO.

Can somebody please explain the scoring system for supercoach afl, would really appreciate it

Main difference with SC compared to other formats is that the effectiveness of a disposal matters: put a 30m kick to a 1:1 that puts the ball into dispute: ineffective disposal = 0 SC pts; other formats you get points for the kick.

There's much more intricacies than what's written there but it's a good start.

I put him about the same as McGrath, ahead of Stringer. Stringer will get more CBAs for sure, but less overall mid time as we need him forward.

For CBAs he probably drops to 5th/6th. But I think people put too much emphasis on CBAs, there's a lot of players who start outside the centre, but push up for stoppages and around the ground, where there's plenty of points to be had.

I don't think Caldwell needs huge CBAs, just to be able to push up to stoppages around the ground. I can easily see him averaging 80 in that role and making 150k, which is more than I can say for most of the rookie options.

I do think Berry is a better option, but not by that much. Thinking Berry is a lock, and not even considering Caldwell, is just confirmation bias IMO.

Thanks for these comments. Excellent context here. If others didn’t watch the game and saw the score, Caldwell will get included in teams. In my opinion, the previous preseason game (not last night) showed Caldwell’s more likely role which would translate to lower scores. However, I could be completely wrong ! Again, this is the beauty of the SC game - different opinions so back your gut ! As a disclaimer, I picked Caldwell at the start of last year in my starting team - but that was before Parish’s break out and Stringer’s emergence as midfield package.
Agreed I’d stay away from Caldwell. Just don’t know how it’s going to play out with the uncertainties mentioned. I think Berry is a much safer bet

Can somebody please explain the scoring system for supercoach afl, would really appreciate it
Target players that prefer to kick rather than handball, that also boast an average or above average disposal or kicking efficiency and contribute to many scoring categories (tackles, marks, etc).

Def: Target players that are highly efficient by foot with a very high kick to handball ratio as well as registering intercept marks or a lot of uncontested marks. If chasing those earmarked for a midfield role make sure it is clearly defined, coupled with a low possibility of returning to the backline if the team has sufficient depth to cover any injuries without being swung back.

Mids: When paying a premium make sure it is not for a predominantly outside midfielder, as you will be overly reliant on them accumulating a large amount of the ball to compensate for their lack of contribution in other categories such as tackles and contested possessions which help to raise the scoring floor for players in this position. Due to registering a lot of their possessions in close proximity this takes a hit to to their disposal efficiency as well being likely to handball more than kick. Finding players that can balance the aforementioned very well provides much needed consistency and increases your ceiling.

Rucks: Target the best tap ruckmen (eg those with above average Hitout to advantage rates) that also pair this with a high work rate around the ground which leads to intercept marks, goals or recording 15+ disposals.

Fwds: Steer clear of expensive key position forwards unless they are very mobile and can gather a lot of the ball around the ground and not overly reliant on kicking 4+ goals on a regular basis. Target those with high midfield rotations or players receiving a role change to the other end of the ground (not as a lockdown role). Best place to seek value and avoid overspending as it is common practice for younger players to transition from a forward role to a midfield role after a few seasons.

Very good tips here, but I think he was asking for the SC scoring system, no?

Thanks for that.

Totally agree , once the ball bounces the entire team is just , pretty much 50 metres away from the ball involved in a rolling maul in any case.

Caldwell virtually didn't leave the forward line with 3 CBA's and only had 15 touches in the trial game with their full midfield minus Stringer actually playing full minutes, just think people are going to get burned here, Berry is a far better option.
