Had English most of the preseason because think he has upside, great cover when moved permanently forward and was hoping to use Preuss at R2 instead of R3 early but with Preuss missing just not sure.

First big decision for my team. Gawn vs English plus upgrade. I will be going over this all night in my head. Got to love this game.

Why do you have to choose?

I've been big on English this pre-season, any other year I'd probably slot him into the forwards but not sure that'll happen. Could take a punt on Darcy and English forward as suitable cover but Gawn is Gawn right.

Got Grundy clear R1 so need to choose one of Gawn or English before lockout tomorrow, which shapes a lot of my other sections
Surely if it's such a close call, both selections must have strong merit, and should be prioritised over whatever plan you have elsewhere?

It is the fear of Gawn that is stopping me taking English. Even though good chance Gawn goes down this year.

One of English positives was the use of Preuss as R2. If I start Gawn and Grundy ruck and English forward lose the ability to play Preuss instead of a forward rookie.

I guess it is only probably a week without Preuss but don’t like picking rookies not named

Hayes or Dixon on forward bench? Assuming you go English R2 and Pruess R3.

The English vs Gawn decision is a monster. Probably the single most structurally significant decision and have to make it with blissful ignorance to the other sides

Hurts even more that it strongly combos into picking Macrae/Oliver as well!

Sparrow also a structurally important decision, his role has looked really solid through preseason. Think he's the sideways target at r3 though as a lot more doubt to the role holding up on him than similar priced guys.

Does Marshall have scope to be that ruck miracle with no Ryder

I have been leaning this way too, to play English at R2 and then move him to f2 the following week with Preuss coming off the bench. My issue is potentially having to wait until round 3 to pull this manoeuver as English plays Thursday night next week and Preuss on Sunday, if he's named on the extended bench it's going to be a really crappy spot to be in...

Not worth the risk for me personally but the potential is there for sure and can totally see why people like him.

Durability concerns with a significantly higher requirement (and cost) than English and Ryder is a major obstacle even if he only plays 10 games.

If I take Gawn it's hoping he can hang onto a 115+ average and that Darcy doesn't go supersaiyan.

For Marshall to work he has to match the 2nd worst of Gawn/Grundy/Darcy (and you have to pick whoever is the best of the group) or you're leaking points, there's no value apparatus in the rucks because 100% of lock and loads is made up of that trio so if that trio produces the top 2 (or even worse are all equal as top 2 scorers) then you leak to everyone with lock and load.

English only needs like 93 based on where I have the forwards at and everything above that would be gravy as it just moves him from the D6 slot upward. Personally I think he's capable of getting back to ~100, there's definitely a potential 110 season in there but that's a perfect storm that I'm not anticipating.

Major reason I'm leaning English is I'm scared on Gawn holding the 115 line and equally terrified of Darcy going to 130+ land. English lets me assess and make an informed decision, Darcy has so many question marks that I'm fine with paying a bit more for clarity and I just can't see the upside on Gawn which means I'm most likely paying less.

That said, I feel dirty fading Gawn

Has anyone who is bullish on English thought about running him at F2/F3 with any of Gawn/Grundy or Darcy combo as ur rucks with a Hayes/Dixon type as R3? With Gawn/Grundy/Darcy having same bye could provide some cover and also a bail out option earlier if he goes boom. If he goes boom will also be a top 4 fwd.

Yeah I definately have - I just wish I knew how he will be played this season. He doesn't need much to be a great pick, just needs to get those sub 70 scores out of his game

In short no.

I have Butters well ahead of him as a prospect this year. Dunkley has to be picked on hurt factor alone. Too much value in the forwards to pick 3 premiums, imo, given what the back options are forcing.
