Elsewhere, 9News Queensland reports Lions skipper Dayne Zorko didn’t participate in the club’s captains run despite being named to face Port Adelaide.

Despite this, Zorko is still expected to line-up in Saturday night’s contest at the Gabba.

Power draftee Josh Sinn extends contract till 2025

Port Adelaide expects to field its chosen 22 against Brisbane on Saturday after Jeremy Finlayson’s recovery from a back issue.
Former GWS forward Finlayson went down during Thursday’s training session at Alberton but was named that evening and club doctors had cleared him to play.
The 26-year-old is on track to make his club debut, having featured 66 times for the Giants.

Port Adelaide will take the unusual step of having four travelling emergencies as a precaution due to Covid case numbers increasing in the community.

Power coach Ken Hinkley said Finlayson and the team were raring to go as it stood, “but you just never know” if things could change.
“Everything’s on track and going OK,” Hinkley said.
“Jeremy had a little incident at training with his back, he’s pulled up fine this morning and everything’s OK.
“Doctors rang me this morning and said ‘look, he’s fine, there’s no problems at all, he’s ready to go’.

“There’s some chance he gets on a flight and he doesn’t quite travel as well as he’d like and something happens again.”

Port Adelaide expects Jeremy Finlayson (left) to play his first game for the club this weekend.
Jackson Mead will on Saturday night become the first father-son draftee of a former Power player to debut.
The son of inaugural Power best-and-fairest Darren Mead, Mead was taken with pick 25 in the 2019 national draft and missed a large part of last season with a ruptured spleen.
The 20-year-old had impressed Hinkley over summer with his competitive nature and neat skills on both sides of his body.
“(A ruptured spleen is) a big injury and in some ways it’s a life-threatening injury, but he was able to recover really strongly,” Hinkley said.
“I’m really pleased (about the debut) for him and his family.”
The Power has lost its past three matches against the Lions at the Gabba, last winning there in 2017.
With both sides again tipped to be among the premiership favourites, Port Adelaide has an opportunity to make an early statement with a victory as it seeks to atone this year for last season’s preliminary final exit.
Hinkley was confident its attack could perform well without sidelined duo Charlie Dixon and Orazio Fantasia, who were recovering from respective ankle and knee surgeries.
“Every game is an opportunity for you to consolidate who you are and what you are and what you want to be,” Hinkley said.
“They’ve been able to dominate us around the footy a little bit.”
Hinkley said Dixon would probably play at some level next week and the club’s top draftee, Josh Sinn, was close to making the side.
Although Hinkley expected his team to always start the season well, he warned it was dangerous to draw too many conclusions from Round 1.
“You’ve got to let a few rounds play out before you get too carried away with what’s going on,” he said.
“But reality is everyone wants to see their best pre-season training transfer and we’re no different.”

More midfield mins for Berry if Zorko isn’t 100% … 🙏

Agree, can also look who you missed already this round. Example I wont English and was thinking to go Lloyd to Sicily and have the cash to do Xerri to English if Xerri fails, but just short.
I'm almost glad when these ones come up just short... means the decision is made and I'm not entering into another last-minute extra variable risk.

Yes, Herald Sun you can use that Phrase.

Just short makes me play with cheap rookies, but yes need to stop,

English would be handy but not over my planed team, can’t have them all.

FREMANTLE midfielder Darcy Tucker has done enough to return from a hamstring injury in time for Sunday's season-opener, with the Dockers confident they won't be papering over cracks after losing three stars for the clash against Adelaide.

Captain Nat Fyfe (knee and back), star ruckman Sean Darcy (calf) and leading goalkicker Matt Taberner (hamstring) will all miss Sunday's trip to Adelaide Oval.

Tucker will help cover Fyfe's loss in the midfield and Lloyd Meek gets his chance in the ruck after an impressive summer, while coach Justin Longmuir declared young tall Josh Treacy would play forward after missing both pre-season games.

"We've picked a really strong team across the board, and I feel like missing those three is a great opportunity for other guys who deserve the opportunity," Longmuir said.

"It's definitely not papering over things. Players were picked deserving of their opportunity and have had great pre-seasons.

"I've got full faith in them being able to execute their roles … we're going in really confident."

Tucker has not played in either of the Dockers' pre-season games but was a standout through the summer program before suffering a hamstring injury a month ago.

Longmuir said the Dockers would back the wingman to perform based on the strength of his pre-season, which saw the 25-year-old build his engine considerably.

"He's been one of our best performers and that stems from the moment they went on holidays last year and he didn't have a session off," Longmuir said.

"He was one of our best trainers up until he had that mishap with the hammy. We'll back that in, get him back in the team, and he gives us a good mix of inside and out in the midfield."

Fyfe will miss at least one match with back and knee complaints, but Longmuir said the dual Brownlow medallist was expected to ramp up his training quickly next week to push for selection against St Kilda in round two.

"He's had a few niggles that have caused him to miss sessions and the risk is just not worth it," the coach said.

"We don't expect them to linger for too long.

"It gives us an opportunity to tick every box with his shoulder and get him cherry ripe."

Veteran David Mundy will captain the club on Sunday, while recruit Will

Brodie is set to play a prominent inside midfield role after impressing in both pre-season hitouts against West Coast.

"He's proven that he can play at that level. He's had a fantastic pre-season and he's ready to go and ready to prove himself at a new club," Longmuir said.

"This week we expect him to play as an inside mid. He's very good at the contest and very good with his pressure. I'm excited to see what he can do because he's had a very strong pre-season."
