The Darcy question is going to haunt us for the next 24 hours:

- Bench him for a week, start Dixon / Hayes instead?
- Bring in Marshall (and hope that he can be swapped to the FWD line after R6)?
- Another option (Witts, Naitanui, etc.)?

Grrrrrr
Not sure if you can bench him, there's no time frame for him is there?
Don't think Nicnat is an option, he has no midfield to tap to.
If Ryder is out for long enough Marshall wont be getting dpp at round 6 (but should score well).
Or, Witts / Preuss, eventually upgrading Witts?

Grrrrrr
R Marshall.
  • Holds the second highest contested possession rate by a player since 1999 (59.7%)
  • Nice HTA% (30.6% in 2020 and 33.6% in 2021)
  • No Ryder and a nice fixture to start the season
  • Expect Ryder to start relinquishing the main ruck duties and possibly a 65-35 or 70-30 split in Marshall’s favour
  • Very mobile and finished last season with 4 of the last 5 matches with 19 or more disposals highlighting his ability to stay involved even when not attending ruck contests.

I think the options are basically NicNat, OMc Witts, ROB or Marshall at this point.

Can make a case for a Flynn or Meek in ideal ruck scenarios this round and keep the cash on the side until Darcy is available or to go for Gawn next week but may as well just punt on a NicNat/Marshall being a keeper or the cash gain on offer with Witts (ROB is more no man's land).

As usual I'm surely wrong but my feeling is he's a little bit too much of an injury risk...of course he can be handcuffed with Hayes which is a somewhat comforting feeling.
Much easier to replace with a Gawn/Grundy type than a Witts or alternative option if an injury eventuates and has the potential for a 110+ season.

20 mins to go and I'm still flipping a coin re. Marshall & ROB. I hate this. Wish Ryder would just retire; would help me a lot.

Damn Darcy and his 190 as C last season - I couldn't resist!

ROB funnily enough looks set to occupy a similar SC spot (very different actual players) as Jacobs did back in the day, consistently good enough for top 5ish. But won't get near the big dogs either so there's no point.

Marshall's talent feels like the play, especially if you just hope he gets R/F status at some point to lend flexibility.

Do you pair Marshall + Hayes or NicNat + Dixon though?

But Ryder will play some games which will keep Marshall's ceiling down.
Dependent on their ruck share which will likely be in Marshall’s favour for the remainder of Ryder’s career. High career CPR rate and kick to handball ratio helps to minimise the impact.

I agree

Ryder's there as cheap ruck insurance

34 years old with a history of Achilles issues doesn't scream first ruck to me

Hayes can rot in the forwards now
