Probably looking at Berry to Hayes (only rookie I missed) with Brodie into the mids. The two mid pricers I missed are Lipinski and Hewett, will sit on another week of data before worrying about either, as I have no real duds at the moment Gawn, Whitfield and Dawson are on notice though.

I hope everyone jumps on board Nick Martin, had a great debut, 17 kicks, 10 hb, 10 marks and 5 goals. Only 114 points. Haven't looked at disposal efficiency, but, if this was Buddy we're looking at 200.

He's sure to get more attention this week, did Geelong put anything into a debutant? Doesn't seem so. Can he maintain the number of touches and goal scoring? I don't think so. So I'm giving it a miss as he'll regress to a 50-60 scorer, add that Stringer and Francis will be back next week, also add Tippa, Jones, Snelling and Waterman who'll come under consideration when fit. It does take one quiet game and you find yourself out, anyway just some thoughts to make an informed decision and not chase yesterday's points.

Essendon could be bolstered by the return of two key players including star matchwinner Jake Stringer for Saturday’s clash against the Brisbane Lions.

Stringer has recovered from a groin issue but will have to prove his fitness at training this week to get the nod against the Lions after the Bombers’ poor first-up loss to Geelong on Saturday.

Swingman Aaron Francis (knee) is also a chance to boost a forward line which managed just three goals to halftime in the 66-point loss to the Cats.

With Stringer and Francis back, I'd assume Baldwin is the one to make way.

Martin is a 102K rookie. He doesn’t need to maintain a 130 average because we don’t need him to become a premo, we need him to make a profit. The points on-field are great but really he is someone we are 99% going to cull to fund upgrade season.

At 102K, barring injury and being dropped (which in unlikely for the next 2-3 rounds if he plays half decently), he is a no-brainer if you don’t have him. Not many rookies at basement price show they have a ceiling of 130, either. Hopefully he can go around 70 minimum from here, has the game to do it and as a forward rookie, that’s an excellent return.

I feel like i have gone too heavy in the fwds with all of xerri (he looked pretty bad and still got 79 - needs to get to better positions for marking contests), brodie (didn't see anything to make me think he will improve) and gov ( i think he has the best ceiling).
Berry injured in the mids is also annoying.
I don't have Martin and Durdin
Hewett at D5 rather than Hinge, McCartin, Gibcus and De Koning seems the better structure.

The rest of my team i am very happy with - got on Hall which is a nice POD.

So based on this my likely trades on a weeks worth of data would be Owens/Berry/Brodie (concerned with his low TOG and with Fyfe still to return) to Hewett/Martin/Durdin - opening up a bunch of DPP everywhere except mid/def.

I like it - but probably the smart move is to wait a week. The only issue being if a new problem arises then I can't jump.

If owens is dropped I might correct him to Martin now to keep a boost up my sleeve for next week if something dramatic happens

Is Berry injured? I heard something about his shoulder but couldn't find anything definitive. He seemed to play much more outside in the second half. He's a pretty bad kick so he really needs to play inside.

I didn't grab Rachele so if Berry is injured maybe a trade there. Probably hold elsewhere - chasing the likes of Green, McDonald and Lipinski of 1 game is a classic SC round 1 stitch up I reckon, would be definately watching both of these guys at least one more time.

Any Essendon fans comment on Caldwells game though? What was his role and TOG and I wonder whether I wait another week on Berry and see if theres a sideways there if he puts another good game in and Berry spuds/injured.

I lucked in to having him on the field (last minute swap of MacDonald for Dixon to set up Hayes this week, after Durdin was locked on my bench) but the big positive for me was that's going to make him very hard to drop for several weeks - which was my big concern, that when guys start dribbling back into the Essendon team it felt like Martin was a candidate to be first out. That's not true any more.
