I've allowed this to sink in after a couple of days and now can put forward my thoughts to get some opinions so I can make a well inform decision and own it.

Essentially the OUTs remains the same and Cripps as one of the INs, can do Hall & Hewett in liew of Short & Heeney.

Whitfield is my 'ugly duckling' after 2 rounds, a luxury (corrective at a stretch) which I'm still not sure about as it's too earlier to be making this type of trade, but team looks more appealing with a Hall/Hewett instead.

I may employ a KISS approach and save a boost by doing McGovern & Berry to Cripps & Heeney/Hewett.

Let's hear what the 'wisdom of the crowd' has to say...
Prefer the KISS option too but only if you definitely think both ins will be keepers.
Another option is perhaps Berry, McGov out for Macrae and Rachele or similar combo, gets you a genuine top line mid and another great cash cow.

What ever trades you do I think when you look at it include the Gawn -> Witts trade to look at the overall affect on your team.
So Gawn, Berry, McGov -> Witts, Cripps, Hewett/Heeney or
Gawn, Berry, McGov ->Macrae, Witts, Rachele etc.

Setting aside changes in role, is English actually playing better this season, and do we think that’s sustainable?

Eg is he looking stronger/fitter, has he improved his ruck craft, etc?
To my eye (and I haven't watched him much previously) he looks marginally stronger - he's not getting rag dolled in the ruck quite as much.

His ruck craft is also marginally better: he's gone from junk to at least competitive, even if he's not necessarily winning a stack of HO.

But I think both those things really just help keep him in the role, which puts him around the ball, which is where he scores his points. 24 and 20 possessions this year, he passed 20 only once last year for 126pts.

That and Steph Martin is a completely spent force.

You set on letting Rachele go by?

I think the real KISS is McGovern to Rachele and Owens to Cripps.

If you do that with Durdin instead of Owens, is there enough for berry to heeney?
I don't feel Rachele is as essential for my team as I think I have a good enough group of R1 rookies.

I had never considered Durdin as a possible trade out option.

I'm just short of doing what you suggested, but I can do Hewett instead.

My KISS reference was to try and avoid having to use a boost so does getting Rachele worth boosting for...? Also, I was intending to keep Owens after he netted me 100 points last round (Neale VC and Stephens over Ward). Funny thing was, I downgraded Rachele to Owens prior to the Saints game in R1 after reading all the hype about him, Rachele was the sacrificial lamb.

Don't know what to think now as you've opened up another pathway for me which I'll need to cycle through over the next couple of days, back to the drawing board I go...Thanks for your thoughts though, it's much appreciated and valued.

I have change my mind and now looking at

Whitfield out Hewett in
Berry out Stephens in
Chapman out (McCartin to Def) Heeney in

Who would you get rid of Whitfield or Ridley

Second option there looks good to me!

Looks much better in the ruck contest, not getting monstered and embarrassed in there, which means he's free to play the ruck role instead of that 2nd ruck role he played for large chunks of last year.

Is finding very good positioning around the ground for intercept possessions and is also offering a lot at the clearances.

The strength of his midfield will inflate his ruck stats, he's still close to the worst 1st ruck as a ruckman but Martin was dead two years ago and I think at best he's going to play a backup role if he does come in and 2 years ago English was a 100+ ruck.

Basically I think he's probably 5-10 above his finishing point right now but he should be a forward keeper if he stays on the park and nothing substantial happens, so he's a sound target.

Was only planning to trade in cash cows this week (Owens to a rookie I've missed?) but all this talk about trading premos is making me get second thoughts.
Open to all trade suggestions. All trades and trade boosts available but only 23k cash. Any players that I should be targeting?

The one guy that stands out to me that you are missing is Cripps but your midfield looks solid so not sure you should anything radical to squeeze him in.

From BF:-

Whitfield covered 15.3km on the weekend.

He covered the most amount of ground in the GWS-Richmond game and was in the top 8 of ground covered for round 2.

It's a pretty simple situation for me:
Players generally score better in wins than losses and I predict GWS win more than they lose this year.
GWS looks heaps better when they're playing through Whitfield. They haven't done that - something needs to change. I'm assuming they'll try to involve him more in transition in the coming weeks.
He's covering the ground just fine
If you check his scores last year, he's prone to throwing in the odd 60-80 but his ceiling is so high that it all evens out in the end.

Interesting, if had a niggle it certainly isn’t impeding him too much, still covering a lot of ground.
A lot of that running was him lagging behind the play, indeed that is what he was doing for most of the game - labouring trying to catch up with the play after not getting involved.

There were a couple of spurts of run and carry later in the game which looked a bit more like him, but even then the decision making and/or delivery by foot was poor by his standards.

His defensive work was also shocking, he's never been the best tackler but on the weekend he was being brushed aside by the ball carrier with minimal effort.

One other small thing which stood out a bit was that he struggled in a couple of occasions to get down low to pick up a ground ball which for a smooth mover with generally good balance and hands was a bit unusual.

Not sure what's up with him, but he's definitely not passing the eye test in comparison to the Lachie Whitfield were used to seeing.

I was anticipating @Connoisseur to ask this question but you may as well get the chocolates...:)

$419K ITB

For those playing along at home, initial idea
Outs: Whitfield, McGovern & Berry
Ins: some of Cripps, Hall, Hewett, Heeney.

First off, team looks in pretty darn good shape.

McGovern, two weeks of question marks, he's first culled here.

Hewett is great role season long, you saved the cash spend ($276 ITB). Whether Bowey delivers a greater cash return for similar points over the next period is the big question (410 ITB). I'd go Bowey and burn the upgrade trade later. Also allows you see Hewett with a full Carlton mid line.

You must buy Cripps. Who to sell? If there is a single out this week, I'd sell Owens. $73 ITB. Even without a donut, I'd consider just hard captaining Neale. I think the cash generation will be super important. I think Berry outscores your bench.

I started Hall. I think he is a top 3 defender at seasons end and under priced. You can't buy him now. It's a game of BE's.

And the keeper with a ridiculous BE is Heeney. Is Whitfield to Heeney worth it? Not only in cash, but also in terms of killing a boost trade. I think boosts could be super useful in a few weeks. I don't think $50k is worth it for Whitfield to Heeney in and of itself if both are keepers. Is it worth Whitfield to Hall for sure keeper? I don't think at the expense of a boost trade.

Really its not an ugly duckling, it's whether Whitfield is a list clogger and Heeney is sure thing in the forward line. If you think it's both of those things are true, pull the trigger. I have. 1 boost down, 4 to go.

Yeah fair enough. I'm currently debating Hewett v Bowey myself.

Bowey is this week or never, so could getting Hewett for $450-470K next week instead still be viable if he's a keeper? You also get a look at him with Cripps, Walsh, Cerra & Kennedy all playing.
That Carlton draw really opens up, think Hewett's a must have myself and makes the most sense to get him while hes only 399k to me.
