Essendon's injury update:
Leading into our inaugural AFLW clash with Hawthorn on Saturday at Marvel Stadium, thanks to Liberty, we caught up with Head of Medical Services Megan Smith to provide an update on the health of our list.
Georgia Nanscawen
The inaugural AFLW leadership group member, Georgia is progressing well in her ACL rehab, which she injured in the VFLW Grand Final. She is only six weeks post-surgery so she is in the early stages of rehab.
Jorja Borg
Unfortunately, Jorja fractured her foot in the opening quarter of our practice match against Port Adelaide. This is an estimated 12-week injury so we have moved Jorja to our inactive list. Jorja will be in a boot for the next month and we will re-scan before commencing impact training.
Ellyse Gamble
Ellyse received clearance this week to return to games following her ankle reconstruction. It’s exciting for Ellyse to get the clearance and be available for selection for round one.
Sophie Van De Heuvel
Sophie has also been cleared for round one and will be available for selection following her shoulder reconstruction.
Bella Ayre
Bella is currently recovering from a knee injury and from having Covid. She is in the process of re-loading, and we are aiming for her to return for round three.
Eloise Ashley-Cooper
Eloise is currently recovering from a stress fracture, which has ruled her out for the season.
Jordan Zanchetta
Jordan’s running volume and speed are progressing well following an achilles injury. She is slowly building towards full capacity but won’t be available for selection for round one.
