Essendon's injury update:

Leading into our inaugural AFLW clash with Hawthorn on Saturday at Marvel Stadium, thanks to Liberty, we caught up with Head of Medical Services Megan Smith to provide an update on the health of our list.

Georgia Nanscawen

The inaugural AFLW leadership group member, Georgia is progressing well in her ACL rehab, which she injured in the VFLW Grand Final. She is only six weeks post-surgery so she is in the early stages of rehab.

Jorja Borg

Unfortunately, Jorja fractured her foot in the opening quarter of our practice match against Port Adelaide. This is an estimated 12-week injury so we have moved Jorja to our inactive list. Jorja will be in a boot for the next month and we will re-scan before commencing impact training.

Ellyse Gamble

Ellyse received clearance this week to return to games following her ankle reconstruction. It’s exciting for Ellyse to get the clearance and be available for selection for round one.

Sophie Van De Heuvel

Sophie has also been cleared for round one and will be available for selection following her shoulder reconstruction.

Bella Ayre

Bella is currently recovering from a knee injury and from having Covid. She is in the process of re-loading, and we are aiming for her to return for round three.

Eloise Ashley-Cooper

Eloise is currently recovering from a stress fracture, which has ruled her out for the season.

Jordan Zanchetta

Jordan’s running volume and speed are progressing well following an achilles injury. She is slowly building towards full capacity but won’t be available for selection for round one.

2022 Injury list

Bella Ayre – Short term

Jordan Zanchetta – Short term

Georgia Nanscawen – Season

Eloise Ashley-Cooper – Season

Jorja Borg - Season

I have another personal opinion that may or may not be bogus, trust me I got more wrong than right last year.

On those picking Paige Scott. I am less convinced with her than many others. At a junior level most of the exceptional talents play at least part time mid and average a lot of possessions.

She neither has had significant junior mid time, stats or tackles and was quite low in the pre draft Rookie Me Central draft rankings so may have been a bit of a bolter based on longer term potential.

I am not suggesting not to pick her but to start her as F6 (Emg) if you do have her. If it is a choice I would definitely pay up for Ewings over her even if it means compromising slightly elsewhere.

Can we get 'live' fantasy scores during games ?
The AFLW app has live scores.

From memory there are also several versions of Match centre on the website and if you search about one of these may also show live scores.

New players added
We get our player list from the squad lists on the official AFLW website. We will continue to add them to the platform as they appear on the AFLW website. We have just added the following players:
  • Ava Seton $28700 Midfielder
  • Alex Morcom $28700 Defender
  • Lily Rose-Williamson $28700 Midfielder
  • Megan Ryan $28700 Ruck
  • Grace Hill $28700 Midfielder
  • Melissa Bragg $28700 Forward
  • Kalani Scoullar $28700 Ruck
  • Kaylee Kimber $28700 Defender
  • Rhiannon Watt $71700 Ruck
  • Ella Little $28700 Midfielder
  • Kate Reynolds $28700 Ruck
  • Ashleigh Gomes $28700 Midfielder
It is likely there will be players named in line-ups that are yet to appear on the AFLW website. There is no guarantee that we will have every player named in the round added to the platform prior to lockout.

Round 1 will be a variation of a rolling lockout.

(Following Round 1, the game will return to full lockouts from the first game of the round.)

Good to see. Is this locked behind articles on the AFLW FANTASY site?

Nevermind I found the email ;)

Added onto that is this:

It’s slightly different to the rolling lockout of AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach, so please see below the finer details:

  • Captain, Vice-Captain and Switch buttons are locked for the entire round at the start of the round (Thursday 7:10pm). The only thing that is rolling is the Team Builder.
    • You will not be able to change your captain or vice-captain or switch a player from the bench to on field via the swap button.
    • If you want to swap a player (who is yet to play) from the bench to on field, you will need to do this via the Team Builder by removing them from the bench and adding them on field.
    • If you don’t have a captain and vice-captain selected, your most expensive player will be the default captain for Round 1.
  • Players whose team is playing that day will be locked from the team builder at the first game of the day, regardless of the time of their game.
    • You will not be able to remove players or bring in players from those sides in the team builder

Think I've decided not to risk Garner. Tough spot there. No one else in Forwards has her capacity but if she's stuck forward for a couple of games early her price will crash and I think the way the game is structured that pretty much puts you out of business. Think I'll roll the dice on Jess Fitzgerald having a breakout, and use the funds to get Evans up to Tyanna Smith. All-in on discount Saints midfield.

Smith is out for 6-8 weeks with a knee.

I have watched plenty of Kangaroos games and (to my frustration) Garner is never stuck forward despite the teams inability to score against good teams and her obvious ability to be a 2-3 goal a game forward in big matches while Emma King gets thrown forward while being nowhere near the threat.

In games at NHO last year Garner kicked (I think) the first goal of the game both times (or at least 1 in each first quarter) and was intercepting turnovers at CHB within the space of 10-15 mins, later, all while being a first choice Centre Bounce midfielder.

That said she is no must have, like any gun you have to hope several of those you don’t pick start slowly enough that you jump on at a discount, and Garner was one that did so in 2022A.
