This was my thoughts for this round. Steketee, Renshaw and Neser are currently the three most popular trade ins from the poll, and the only ones above 50%. I think we should bring in a minimum 2 of these to support the concept of this team (i.e. picking the team based on the consensus options wherever possible), 3 if we can.

Unfortunately, I was a few thousand short of being able to afford all 3 Heat players with this team based on trade outs I prefer. I decided to skip on Neser of the three, as there are some thoughts he might miss the second game (in Qld) which will be held Friday night, due to the test starting in Melbourne Monday morning. I don't trust any BBL rumours any more, the main reason he missed was entirely the lack of cash. This can be resolved in multiple ways, such as trading Hales over Gilkes, but Hales did look good today, and I think he could be a good batter to keep at his price.

Out: Gilkes, Farooqi, Green, Rashid
In: Renshaw, Steketee, Dooley, Naveed

It does mean another round light on for DGR (2), but it gets us two cash cows, solving that issue over the next few rounds, one who could be used for the Rd 5 DGR. I don't see many weak links among this team apart from the two non playing selections. I think this should resolve any bench concerns for now too - if anything it leaves our bench a bit too strong, as I was really unsure which bowlers to field in the end.

By no means is this locked in, these are my personal thoughts here as to what we might be able to do, and as most of you are much better at this than me, you probably have better options. I'd love to hear them!

We will also need to lock in a VC choice. Any preferences? Obviously it depends on who we bring in, but is there someone from Brisbane who historically loves playing these two sides / at these grounds?

Thanks.
A few things

Is $ 12,400.00 Bank enough for preferred MR/SS trade in options ?

2 BH seem light on for their DGR , do we need both Dooley & Naveed as cash grabs ?

Gone for cash grabs but our Bank is actually lower than last round πŸ€”

Round 4 planned outs are Steketee , Renshaw (based on this team) and who ?

How many rounds do you plan playing Hales onfield before he leaves ?

If not playing , use his money now (i.e. keep Gilkes) and build the bank for future trades.

With the changes in the post after the one you quoted, it's $40,900 in the bank. Would like a 3rd Heat player, but as mentioned not quite the cash for those most preferred in the poll (We could afford Swepson over Renshaw/Bazley for example despite less votes - would prefer this to 2 cash grabs personally).

There's probably a few who would be expendable as a third trade next round. Possibly Agar, but I dunno. Forward planning is not my strong point. As to when Hales goes - I think he's possibly a longer term keeper, I doubt he'll get much cheaper and has proven scoring history.

Do you have alternative trades? Those in post 290 seem ok to me too, again not being in the top 3 from the poll is why I didn't include Swepson in the team I had suggested.

Still deciding on trade options. I'm liking a boost option, and think we need at least one cash grab, I think these seem reasonably common choices. I'll think about it more tomorrow while I'm "working" as to who we bring in and trade, as there are plenty of decent options here already. It's my final day for the year, and my boss will be out for most of the day, so I should have a bit of time to go through various options. :)
Current team can be found in the post above.

I personally have the Heat trade in priorities as:

Steketee
Neser
Swepson
Bazley
Renshaw

But I also think the cash grab situation works in our favour over the next few rounds. Naveed is cheap now and could be too high to grab for round 5, and Dooley should become an easy straight swap to just about anyone. Only thing with Naveed is I think we need to be confident he is still playing both games in round 5 - and being at the SCG and GMHBA I think he will.

I don't think it is the worst think in the world to be light on Heat players.. it feels like it could be an underwhelming DGR and I would say most teams would have max 4 anyway. Keeping some good SGR players is more important and I think we are doing that well.

If we want to take a different approach and hold Gilkes to maximise the cash for that last trade, I would trade Agar over Hales. I don't think Junction Oval will suit him at all, and can see him struggling for wickets and economy rates. Plus may not even get a bat.

If we traded Agar instead, we could hold some cash and prioritise getting guys in for the round 5 double.

If we really want to take on the Heat this round, we could potentially use the Agar trade to get Abbott (cash permitting, might be tight). Averages 72.4 at the SCG and plays the next 3 there.

My plan is to get you to start forward thinking πŸ€— (preferably by now , but we can take baby steps) πŸ˜‰

Hard to develop and master but it does come in handy looking 2 rounds ahead when looking at current trades , but also needing to be flexible and adapt where necessary.

My own team trades will be :-

Green - > Swepson
Hales - > Neser
Farooqi - > Steketee

The plan (at this stage) is to then trade them to 3 MR/SS next round , tonight will give me a idea of which MR to target.

I need cash so will boost Agar (high BE) to Naveed (don't mind the Dooley option proposed as a alternative)

Can't move Rashid on yet (goes well v the Heat) , seems to be bowling more leg and short this season watching him.

Totally agree with what you say about Hales , proven BBL quality , think he only has 4-5 games before he πŸ›«

I guess at the end of the day we need to follow what the poll says.

Big round coming up

Don't envy your task at all , collating all the information , dealing with others (especially me) etc etc

Great work

Trading Agar over Rashid is an option as well, and might be able to be done within budget, depending on other trade plans. Can see Agar putting up poor numbers at the Junction Oval this round, might get carted for quite a few runs. As I mentioned in the main topic, someone will go huge in that game, guess we hope it's Inglis or Stoinis.

Agree with this last part - aggregating views multiple rounds ahead is tough going! It’s a fair point you make though.

If we are balancing doubles vs cash cows - what about Kuhneman?

BE of -3 with two games in hand (ie it would be more like -40 if he was on a single), obviously has the double, and Geelong seems to be low scoring based on the early World Cup games. Max first innings score of 163 from 8 games, no chasing side managed better than 146.

I know he wasn’t popular, but he could be an option to kill two birds that are popular goals.

Does he play both games though ?

Seems to be Bartlett , Bazley & Kuhnemann vying for 2 spots.

Should play at Geelong but if they offer a green top at the Gabba , might not play or bowl.

Certainly time restraints in between rounds doesn't help with forward planning in this concept , Round 4 starts Saturday πŸ˜‰

It is a risk. The pitch at the Gabba is probably key, but he scored well in R1 and (I think) may have a favourable pitch in R2. His BE effectively declines further if he misses as well (ie a slight compensation for missing out on points).

I thought I had read that the Heat like playing two spinners, possibly at the Gabba. I may be wrong though.

Have to go back through the records and see how much Mujeeb & Swepson actually played together at home.

Swepson been in and out of the Test Squad the last 2 seasons didn't help.

I think Kuhnemann played 9 games last season , Mujeeb 11 , Swepson 5 , Dooley 1

@Ironhawk

fwiw this is what I am currently looking at in regards to MR & SS

Melbourne Renegades

Hosein
Finch/Guptill/Maddinson
Richardson, K

query on Mujeeb as I may play J Richardson onfield Round 5 v Stars @ Optus (allows me to bench Tye & Zampa, possibly over ambitious)

Sydney Sixers

Abbott
Kerr
Naveed - trading in tomorrow
Philippe

The flow on effect is the MR players will be traded out in Round 6 for HH and the SS will be kept for DGR 8 (but being mindful they have a Bye in Round 9)

Trade outs are not locked yet and will depend a lot on BE , price changes , available cash etc etc

Round 4

Out: Neser , Steketee, Swepson
In: 3 x MR/SS tbc

May also use a boost

Round 5

Out: Rashid Khan + 2
In: 3 x MR/SS tbc

Hope to hold Shadab Khan depending on departure information

Not going to have a lot of time between getting home and lock out tonight. I think we are settled on the following, but might be wrong (been busier today than I expected):
  • Using a boost
  • Trading out Farooqi and Green
  • Trading out one of Hales/Gilkes
  • Trading out one of Agar/Rashid
  • Trading in Steketee and Neser
  • Trading in at least one cheap player of Dooley/Naveed
  • Trading in either the other cheap player or Swepson
  • VC to be Steketee unless there is a compelling case otherwise.
Does anyone want to suggest the best options for these X v Y's, or an alternative? I likely won't be around until just before the game.

Thanks.

I think we should lock in these 2 now:

Agar to Steketee
Green to Neser

And then the decision becomes a choice of:

Dooley/Naveed/BH Player - where we can pick two, and the trade ins dictating who we trade out.

If we are happy to lock in the above 2 trades though, it at least simplifies the conversation down a little.

Strikers only have one lefty in their top 7 which would favour Kuhnemann

Ok, done. We have $9,600 after these two trades.

Haven't changed any player positions yet:

Inglis (Handscomb)
Short, Sams, Shadab, Hales, Neser (Stoinis, Gilkes)
Rashid, Tye, Hosein, Farooqi, Zampa (Steketee, Connolly)

Kuhnemann is projected to score 186 this round, only behind Khawaja who is projected to score 228...

Got to love the projected scores in this.

Now I am confused

Short , Shadab , Neser , Stoins all playing

Sams , Gilkes/Hales on the Bye

Gilkes/Hales need to go to a bat or we get a donut , no idea who the bat is  , might need Renshaw if that stays as above

When we trade Farooqi Sams can go to bowl line?
