As my name suggests, I have a tendency to use my trades unwisely.

My private league always finishes in the top 300 leagues every year. Because we are all good mates, we tend to hang a lot of S..t on each other. So in past seasons, I have tended to trade out players just to chase the round win rather than thinking strategically. It’s probably more about ego than sensibility.

In my league you basically need to win around 9 - 10 games to make the top 8 (finals).

So, rather than chase the win every week I am going to be prepared to lose rather than trade out a player who is injured (unless it is long term) or a premo who has had a drop off in form.
EG, Case in point from last year - Coniglio, English, Gawn.
Also, rather than doing a sideways trade for a non playing/performing rookie, I will be more patient.

Based on my current side I hopefully have 13 genuine keepers plus Himmelberg or similar - this makes 14.
That means I will need 8 more premos to complete my side.

I am allocating 22 trades for rookie upgrades to get these extra 8 premos. That should be more than enough.
I am allocating 6 trades for long term injuries
This would leave me with 7 trades for the finals.

I feel this is achievable so long as I don’t chase wins just to beat a mate. Obviously it is important to get off to a good start so that I am not behind the 8 ball. That is why I plan on having a very strong midfield & defense from the get go with a range of Capt/VC options.

Obviously, picking the right starting rookies is probably the most important thing & as each club organizes their preseason games against each other this will tell us more about which rookies are firing and likely to get a game in R1. In this regard we all tend to find most of the same players.

My current team is below. I have $29,400 cash ITB

Nice team, Mitchell not for me. So this year you are playing for overall, not league.

Probably a fool for having all three of Fyfe, Yeo and Mitchell in my team but they would be hard to ignore with a full preseason.
I had Fyfe used the extra cash to upgrade a mid-pricer to a premium.

I went for Green because I believe he can upgrade his average due to more midfield time, as well as being the grandson of a Richmond premiership player

Young Eagle Campbell Chesser is still under an injury cloud almost a year on from a severe ankle injury that cruelled his 2022 season.

The club’s prized first round pick from 2021, Chesser looked assured of a Round 1 berth last year before injuring himself during a practice match.

😔
Fingers crossed the kid gets a run at it this year, appears to be in most January teams provided he is fit for round 1

The grandson of a premiership player. Good form as any. Sons don't do too bad either.

The forward-bound part is the issue.
It was well known he would be spending more time in the fwd line. JL flagged this in his first season as coach and Fyfe as not over the moon about it. His body cannot take the full time battering being a mid brings. The question is how much time is fwd and how much running through the mid (probably in impact bursts). Is it 60 fwd and 40 mid, 50/50?

Sounds a lot more like 70% forward to me

More positive report today on Chesser, looks like the previous article wasn't completely accurate :-

West Coast defender Tom Cole has allayed fears around the fitness of young midfielder Campbell Chesser, saying the prized draftee is tracking well in his return from a serious ankle injury.

Having missed the entirety of his first season on an AFL list, Chesser is yet to join in any of the main drills consistently this pre-season as the Eagles ease the teenager back into the training set-up ahead of a hotly-anticipated senior debut this year.

Cole, who is returning from his own season-ending ankle injury, said he witnessed first-hand how the first-round draftee tackles his rehabilitation and couldn’t have been more impressed.

“He’s an ultimate pro. That was pretty evident early on with the way he attacked his rehab,” Cole said of Chesser, who was West Coast’s top selection in the 2021 draft at pick 14.

“He’s been through all the programs as a youngster, so he knew what he had to do and he’s tracking very well.

“We were disappointed not to see him out on the park last year but early signs are his ankle is tracking well, he’s fit and he’s ready to go. Just like a lot of our young players who are very hungry at the moment.”

Cole watched on as the Eagles were put through their first match simulation session of the off-season on Friday.

For those keen on Elliot Yeo, he is looking very good currently :-

Two-time club champion Elliot Yeo looks set for a return to the midfield after impressing with his clearance work, while second-year forward Jack Williams showed significant improvement with a couple of strong marks on superstar defender Jeremy McGovern.

Well that is a positive sign. Would be useful if he is fit and picked for rd1.

WEST Coast midfielder Campbell Chesser lifted his workload at training on Monday as the prized youngster builds towards an overdue return to the main group this pre-season.

Chesser remains on a managed program as he works his way back from serious bone and ligament damage in his right ankle last February, with the Eagles taking a cautious approach with their first-round pick from the 2021 NAB AFL Draft.

The classy right footer spent time with the rehab group during last week's return to training but appeared to step things up on Monday, taking part in several drills before completing his own running session.

The 19-year-old moved well at Mineral Resources Park and put his kicking skills on show before he was moved to the sidelines during higher intensity ball-movement work.

The Eagles' senior midfielders are in good shape, with premiership pair Dom Sheed and Andrew Gaff impressing after strong outings during last Friday's match simulation session.

Dual club champion Elliot Yeo has clearly taken a step forward after being managed before the Christmas break. He completed Monday's session with the main group and showed his powerful attributes on several occasions.

Captain Luke Shuey spent much of Monday's session running laps but could return to spend time with the main group by the end of the week.

Among the draftees, big-bodied midfielder Reuben Ginbey appeared at home moving through the midfield contests, while small forward Noah Long has excited the club with his potential early.

Speaking of both, anyone taking Rozee and Butters?
For me, it really depends on if Butters is going to get enough CBA's and therefore average 100.

I know we will get more DPP FWD's throughout the year but I still think a 100 average is going to be enough for top 6, and that 4 of those 6 will be Dunkley/Cogs/Rozee/Taranto.

Rounds 19-23 he went 106,120,121,106,125 (115.6 average) with average 36% CBA's.
Boak's CBA's were down those rounds though so I'm not too sure how much was just Boak not getting smashed into the ground late into the season when they couldn't make finals.

I like Butters and thinking of running 5 premo forwards (at least 1 of them in the mids) but I still have Butters 5th on the list.
