I like the Holmes pick, priced at 65 and went at 94 in his last 6 games, which is exactly what I would want from a MP player.

Interested to hear your thoughts though.
Yeah I like Holmes also along with Culley as a cheaper option and then there's Worpel but I really don't like him as a SC option, his disposal is terrible and is very 1Dimensional.

Sicily, Young, Daicos, Yeo, Gibney, Wilmot (Chesser, Wagner)
Oliver, Neale, Bont, Green, Mitchell, Hopper, Ashcroft, Phillips (Hewett, Johnson, Baker)
Grundy, Marshall (Madden)
Dunkley, Rozee, Fyfe, McLean, King, Bruce (van Rooyen, Drury) $34,500 bank
What I have so far. Dont mind it.
Hawthorn started using multiple rebounders towards the second half of the season, Sicily's scoring fell accordingly.

Not a concern?

How many goals are West Coast going to kick in a run of Freo,Melbourne,Geelong,Port,Carlton and Richmond in a row? Don't think they'll be as bad as last year but thats a bloody tough run, Think Allen's just as likely to be dropping 30's as he is to be generating good cash myself, that's assuming he can actually stay fit.
All it takes is a contested mark, kick and goal and that's nearly your 30 points, He's in my side and it may be a combination of having him onfield and on the bench on occasions depending on opponents. If your thin on your bench, we'll he'll be onfield and if he scores a 50 I'd be happy with that. Depends on people's expectations, are they waiting for the 150k profit or taking a lesser amount when another opportunity arises with a new rookie? Nothing worse than holding a slow burn.
Allen is an interesting one. Clearly you do not want a $210k Fwd dropping scores of 30. His JS is unquestionable. In 2021 in his first 7 games he went 98, 56, 77, 88, 127, 64, 60 for an ave 81. In terms of midfield delivery that was without Yeo and Shuey played one game in that 7. Darling and JK played most of these games. Those games included teams like Pies, Cats, Bulldogs and Freo. If he did that this year it would be a win no doubt.

On the other side his last 7 went 68, 30, 35, 33, 62, 56, 44 for an ave 46. He only played 3 games as a pure Fwd with one game in defence, 3 games where he moved between Fwd and Def and in the last game he was injured. Clearly a "not happy Jan" scenario from a SC scoring viewpoint. No doubt he gets the No 1 or 2 defender this year.

Jury still out for mine.

Yeah, I'd actually prefer if he was the 2nd ruck for the consistency that provides. It's a very tough start and probably the biggest negative.

They had a lot all year so perhaps just ebbs and flows as much as anything but it's definitely worth noting. They've got so many rebounding defender options which is a big reason why the "Sicily forward" idea always has some traction. I think it's a bad move (not quite Himmelberg forward bad but same idea) but coaches make lots of bad moves so it wouldn't shock me!

Will see how he looks in preseason. I think he falls into the same vain as the rest of the premium defenders this year, I think he's a pretty solid bet to score similarly to last year but I struggle to see any value or upside to him which is making them hard to pick when I do see upside on so many of the similarly priced mid/fwd options.

He's so hard to judge on past performance outside he looks a special talent.

Played all over, a lot of his forward games were as a 2nd ruck which adds points and is very unlikely now he's their #1 forward. Playing on the 3rd tall is a lot easier than the best defender, often it's a significant matchup advantage or even a zoning intercept player who gives a lot more space.

I'll be watching but I'm certainly hoping for some cheaper options given I definitely agree the scoring could be inconsistent. Still, his JS is elite at that price range and ultimately that could have value.

As much as I don't want to lock out the forward slots, at least having 4 premiums I feel really good about this year makes it a viable strategy with slightly lower risk.

There's definitely a possibility that both of Fyfe and Ziebell put their hands up as must haves also via the preseason, could even be a Ziebell/Fyfe at F5/6 play if the rookies look truly terrible.

North Melb.
Continues to evolve - I'm on a Defender watch this pre-season to make the structure work. Very light on down back and really depends on the R2 also but we can only dream.

I like this structure. Looks very solid.

Not sure on Darcy Cameron. I took him last year when he was worth a bag of chips but the bloke is literally held together by sticky tape and I dont see him playing a full year as number 1 ruck

Not sure his scoring fell away….last 3 round average of 118?
the two round before that a 94 and 97 …..

safe as houses pick as long as we understand he could drop to around $550k…

the only dilemna I see with that is have you cost yourself points on field to save a measly $70k?

Hence why he is in my starting team..

I never get this logic. If you spend the cash well you're not costing yourself any points on field.

If Sicily drops to 550k, he has, at best and highly unlikely, matched his starting average in a year of extremely high rookie scoring, but more than likely has dropped from his starting point, that's what costs you points on the field and when you save that 70k is when you are then gaining points on the field, all else being equal. That 70k, if deployed at fair value will have you 12 points a week better off from that point forward while having also been that same 12 points better off if you picked a player who didn't fall 70k (ignoring the early season correction factor).

Basically, if you think Sicily will drop 75k, you should be starting someone else.

I was without Sicily most of last year and he single handedly cost me a top 1K finish, the ball will be down there more if anything very hard to see a world where I dont pick him as a defensive move as much as anything.

Forward talk is always there but I don't think it actually happens.

I rate Holmes, good finish to the season then stood up in a tight final and was one of the better players on the night, if theres a greater inside split which has been mooted he could be anything, problem is theres about 4 blokes that could get it and we are only going to have one serious hit out to look at. (Geelong will play virtually the whole list in that first match sim like they did last year don't expect we will learn a great deal).

Simply, I like him heaps. There is no certainty in this game, be boring if there was.

You know, I've been looking at stats, forums, articles etc for SC/DT for over the last 10+ years of playing and for me nothing beats that simple gut feeling about players when drafting a team and trading throughout the season. That's the gate for me, can't say it's treated me too bad either.

I reckon Ive had my most success when Ive just backed what I see, forums are fun but its easy to start doubting yourself.
