Richmond Match Sim

- Taranto & Cotchin played midfield
- Dusty & Bolton played forward
- Hopper sat out as he is on a modified program

Per Herald Sun.
Yeh I wouldn't read too much into it,only went 30 mins.
Apparently Soldo dominated, Narkle looked like Chris Judd & Bolton was unbelievably good.

That all sounds great.

Now for Hopper to play the next match sim and absolutely dominate. You might be sitting up from that sofa and looking for your belt post haste! 😉
I'm not sure. Overall I think it fixed more issues than it creates. Will see how things play out over the next few weeks. And I replaced Hopper two days ago so nothing about him sitting out today played a part in my decision.

Is that 5 weeks for Hopper ?
5 weeks from game 1, not he is in program for 5 weeks. to be fair the new on modified program is new and not sure are across what it is about.

3 days ago, doesn't look to be:

Marquee signings Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper have completed almost the full pre-season program under new high performance boss Luke Meehan.
The former Greater Western Sydney midfielders were both limited by injuries in 2022, but have made strong impressions across December and January at the Swinburne Centre.

Ok - thanks for the clarification ... doesn’t sound quite as bad in that context 😅

Bolton is one of those guys who hasn't been mentioned but could easily be a top 5 forward this year in what looks a better side. He's torched just about everyone in SC by now so probably a reason no one is talking about him but the talent is there.

Reminds me a bit of Robbie Gray where he'd torched everyone by the time he finally broke out that most couldn't even bring themselves to bring him in when he was the best forward around or Heeney last year doing similar.

A guy thats had the knee issues Hopper has had was always going to have a modified program, could be as simple as that being his lighter load day, I don't tend to look as deep into things like that as some people do, especially a month out from Round 1.
Yep, if he misses the preseason games or looks fat in them, then I worry.

To be fair though, I don't love him as a pick, it's a pretty high risk low reward play given I struggle to see anything above 105 being possible for him unless his disposal has miraculously changed thanks to the modified program. He's not a bad pick, just that his minimum requirement is pretty steep.

I generally pass on mid priced mids, more often than not the better route for cash generation is to have just picked a rookie, only takes one crap game and their cash gen stalls in that price range, think Hopper is one of few that can do enough pretty easily though.

I think he's a good one but 95 as basically your breakeven point, for a guy whose best is 97 and has significant durability issues, is not a monty.

I've had him in the past couple of drafts but I'd personally love to get him up to Macrae/Petracca/Neale if I can. Would probably take an exceptional group of back rookies to pull off though, could also conceivably achieve it without Fyfe for example.

He's definitely the one who goes for Ziebell though in my next plan I imagine. I'd say the present a pretty similar scoring profile and Ziebell has a proven higher high and, somehow, much better durability with two positions that are easier to be a keeper in.

16 x $ 123,900.00 rookies essentially is $ 2 million

Living in dream world if we get 16 named for Round 1.

$ 8,000,000.00 for 14 premiums is about $ 571k ish.

Good luck buying (proven) defender & mid premiums for that price.

Obviously using the likes of Grundy , Marshall , Rozee , Taranto etc price types allows adjustments.

Simple mathematics really if we don't get 16 starting cheap rookies we all need to use mid pricers in our starting structures/teams.

34 days time we can actually lock it all in

For me anyway, I reckon every year I've gone with one or two mid-prices for structural purposes - apart from one year where I went with 4 or more and that was my worst seeason to date.

I also find that usually the mid-price option I go for is a Hopper or Fyfe type of this year and every year 2 weeks in I'm wondering how to get them out and it's usually for a $123k rookie.

The Rookies always turn up. Pre-season will throw up some injuries and some rookie performances that will scream pick me and then there's always the shock selections (shock to us - but usually well known within the club) - it's just a matter of having flexibility in yr team structure when teams drop and not panicking and destroying all that good research done in the lead up to the first round.
