FWIW Ratugolea has trained solely as a defender this year, after playing the back half of the VFL season (and a game or two in the seniors) as a defender last year. This tweet from Mitch Cleary only a couple of hours ago seems to suggest that Ratugolea won't be the stop gap forward even with Hawkins seemingly going to miss more than just a round or two.

Ratugolea would only play forward if everyone else that's an option wasn't available hes done 90% of the pre season in defence and really needs to just learn the position and defensive structure if he wants to make it at the club.

My expectation is Neale either gets up and plays or Jack Henry starts forward with his brother slotting into defence and having the ability to swing them throughout the game, they've done it on the track for a while and both have been pretty good at both ends of the ground.

Sav needs an injury in defence to get a look in and I'm not even convinced if there was one he'd even get picked, struggling to see why he has 12% ownership I can't lie.

A good value focused team. I’d prefer a Cameron to a cunnington it all takes $$$
Good work

Tom Stewart, Luke Ryan, Elliott Yeo
Nick Haynes, Josh Weddle, Darcy Wilmot
(Charlie Constable, Lachie Cowan)

Callum Mills, Marcus Bontempelli, Andrew Brayshaw
Paddy Cripps, Rory Sloane, Jacob Hopper
Dom Sheed, Will Ashcroft
(Jack Bytel, Will Phillips, Corey Wagner)

Max Gawn, Esava Ratugolea
(N Madden)

Josh Dunkley, Stephen Coniglio, Tim Taranto
Nat Fyfe, Oscar Allen, Toby McLean
(J Sinn, B Drury)

Seem to be circling the same 30-40 players through my side what’s everyone’s thoughts on structure ect
Sloane is way too risky, 32 now and its been a few years since he has Avg 100 and put a good season together and when you combne with Hopper and Sheed iin the MIDS red lights begin to come into view.

Like the Hanyes selection, is one on my watch list. Good price and with Himmilberg forward good chance of 85+ to the byes.

Have you tried to move phillips on field and slot another rookie (Baker) onto the bench. Take Gawn to Marshell and upgrade R2.?

Good Luck

Could easily still slip Steele in but Brayshaw and Parish have easy early fixtures .
Backline a bit thin.
Darcy a gamble. JHFrancis a gamble.
Free in ruck could get games maybe.

I actually think the midfield is where you are thin. I like Brayshaw, Parish and Green individually, but as a trio, not so much. If they all stagnate, you've started the season with your M6, 7 & 8, none of whom are top 10 by average.

I dont mind Green as much as theres alot more value there if he doesnt quite get into the top 6-8 conversation its not the end of the world, Parish and Brayshaw youve really got to back to be top 6 mids or I'd question the point of the pick.

Can they better the likes of Laird,Oliver,Neale,Miller,Mills,Bont,Macrae and Steele?

Is Ratugolea the one who drops out when Hawkins returns and Henry goes back?

So after viewing a few trial games and the emergence of a few rookie defenders, my squad has a few new faces.

Biggest change was trying to fit Cunnington into the team while deciding who to move on. It became Ziebell to Cunnington, then Fyfe to Allen to fund the change.
Thrilled that Chesser played and he has made another appearance in my team. 2023-02-18.png

Will be interesting to see how many survive in 26 days time.

Chesser did only play a half and was carefully managed through it, still think hes far more likely to be a mid season downgrade but we'll see, missed a hell of alot of footy the last couple years.

Monitor Allen as he has a leg injury

In respect of the Cunnington Conundrum is there a touch of FOMO occurring here? He missed most of 2020 with bad back injury. Missed two games at the star of the season in 2021 with concussion before his unfortunate cancer diagnosis. Then when he was ready to go July 2022 he did a calf that kept him out for a number of weeks. He started 2021 as a 29yo turning 30 mid season and now is 31 turning 32. I know Fyfe is fragile but is Cunnington worth the extra 106k and the rearranging of your team to get him in? Not saying he is a bad pick but just tossing the question out there to swirl around in the froth of the moment.
