Also, using 'he' makes it hard to find information on a player in the keyword search.
That's different though, the player must be referred to at some point in order for subsequent posts to refer to the player using the pronoun so it's to that initial point that your search will take you. You can then follow the thread from there.

On the other hand, people can have a 3-week discussion about the whys and wherefores of picking "Bazlenka" without Smith ever being mentioned.

What tune do I sing that to? :D
I'll file that away, but now I need another tune to help me remember where I filed it! :D
I got so used to Tippa's nickname that I couldn't remember his 'Real' name, his hyphenated surname with McDonald threw me.

I know it is easier to start a new post with 'He', assuming everyone have read all the posts above to know who 'He' is.
Same with nick names, it is fun giving nick names to players, but not everybody know who that nickname belongs to?

I'm not asking for people to change their ways, I'm just saying that it would be easier, and quicker, for others to follow the Posts in this Forum if actual players names were used.
A Band called 'Pickett Palace' I believe, yeah I hear you Bermi, as the forums are getting busier I'm noticing that a fair bit too, the use of he and they, doesn't take me long to lose interest if I can't find out who it's about pretty quick, and then it's on to the next topic haha

I totally agree that nick names make it hard to find information on a player, if using the keyword search, I have unfortunately experienced that.
Also, using 'he' makes it hard to find information on a player in the keyword search.

Back tracking is time consuming. Sometimes you have to go back a number of pages to find the first post.
It just would make life easier if the actual players names are used in a new post, not 'he'.
This is true, however if you click on the Orange name of the original poster in the Quoted post, then you can leap-frog back quite quickly to the the previous posts

Playing wing, with a spot vacated by Acres up for grabs.
No NOD today (foot issue) - sounds like Henry/Hughes were the main wingers today.

Hopefully NOD gets up for Round 1 so it's a bit more clear where he is on the pecking order for the other wing role.

Also feel like someone at a base price (like Baker) on a wing is a gimme, but much tougher at $202K. Still worth considering, would think if NOD is fit Round 1, Henry would get the wing spot over Hughes to start with too.

Nat Fyfe kicks three goals in Dockers' intraclub clash (msn.com)
Nat Fyfe kicks three goals in Dockers' intraclub clash
Story by Justin Chadwick • 1h ago

Fremantle recruit Jaeger O'Meara predicts Nat Fyfe will become a dangerous forward this season after the former skipper stood out in the club's intraclub hitout.

Fyfe booted three goals in a display that has buoyed hopes that the two-time Brownlow medallist will be a success up forward this year.

O'Meara, who crossed from Hawthorn during the trade period, is excited about what Fyfe will be able to produce in attack.

"He's getting better and better. He's working really hard on his craft," O'Meara told the club's website.

"He's going to be a dangerous forward. And when the ball is in his area, he's quite hard to stop.

"If he doesn't take the ball with him, then he's taking a body.

"He's going to be really dangerous, and I'm looking forward to hopefully getting a good connection with him going inside 50m and him kicking some goals for us."

Fremantle assistant coach Joel Corey was also impressed by Fyfe, who gave up the captaincy last week.

"Fyfey had a pretty good day. The chemistry he's got with the forward line is growing," Corey said.

"His repeat effort kind of stuff (is important). He's always a threat and a danger forward of the ball.

"He's an extremely hard match-up. If you think back from December to now, there's been some leaps made."

Ruckman Sean Darcy didn't play on Friday due to personal reasons, while Michael Walters (managed), Brennan Cox (infected knee), Andrew Brayshaw (illness), and Nathan O'Driscoll (foot) were other notable absentees.

Prized recruit Luke Jackson played in the ruck and booted one goal in a strong display.

Sebit Kuek, who was picked up in last year's mid-season draft, also impressed with three goals.

Josh Treacy pushed his case for a round-one call-up with two goals and a stint in the ruck.

But goalsneak Michael Frederick is in a race to be fit for the season opener after injuring his quad at training earlier this week.

The addition of O'Meara into the midfield looms as a crucial part of Fremantle's premiership bid.

The 28-year-old performed strongly in Friday's intra-club.

"I think my touch was reasonably good, and good to get the Ks in the legs as well," he said.

"In these intraclubs, you're going as hard as you can, but you're also playing against your teammates, so you're not really wanting to do any injuries to anyone.

"It's nice to get them (intraclub matches) out of the way. We've been playing against each other for quite some time. I'm looking forward to Adelaide next week."

Henry such a low possession guy it's really hard to sell. When he's played it's mostly been wing and he hasn't managed to score.

Will watch given the price and potential role but I'd think NOD would be the first choice with how he played last year and the lack of genuine midfield openings for him.

I think there's plenty of options at this stage, don't think he'll be needed.

Magpies star banned in illicit drugs bombshell
Story by Jon Pierik • 2h ago

Collingwood star Jack Ginnivan has been suspended for four matches, admitting to taking illicit drugs.

The goal-kicking young gun admitted on Saturday that he had taken drugs recently in the Torquay Hotel toilets, on a day off after the club’s pre-season camp on Victoria’s Surf Coast. He said “a few drinks and a lack of judgement” had let him down.

Seven News was provided with video of Ginnivan at the hotel, sparking an investigation from the network.

“I feel like I have let 44 of my best mates down. I am so remorseful,” said Ginnivan, who was injured in Friday evening’s intra-club practice match.

The AFL released a statement on Saturday night, confirming its integrity unit had investigated the incident. Ginnivan has received one strike under the league’s illicit drugs code.

“The AFL confirms Collingwood player Jack Ginnivan has been found guilty of conduct unbecoming and has been suspended for rounds one and two of the 2023 AFL premiership season,” the AFL said.

“The AFL IU was contacted by the Collingwood Football Club on Thursday evening in relation to vision that had emerged of Ginnivan with an illicit substance while in Torquay in January. The IU has interviewed Ginnivan who admitted to the illicit substance use.

“Ginnivan will also not be available to participate in Collingwood’s upcoming match simulation vs Carlton (Friday 24 February) and in the AFL’s official practice round of games (Thursday 2 March vs Hawthorn). He will not be eligible for VFL selection at any time during his suspension.

“A $5000 (suspended) fine has also been applied and his conduct constitutes a notifiable adverse finding under the AFL’s illicit drugs policy. Ginnivan will be required to undertake further education above the current mandated training on illicit substances and its effects.”

The AFL’s executive general manager Andrew Dillon said: “The AFL wishes to reiterate that AFL players are well-educated when it comes to the harms associated with the use of illicit substances, and have a responsibility to themselves, their clubs and their professional careers to uphold community expectations.”

I would like to think the person who provided channel 7 with the footage has spent months or maybe years trying to get their good friend to stop taking drugs and as a last act of frustration threatened to out them publicly.
That's what I would like to think.

Thoughts on Gulden?
Consistency seems the obvious problem - along with midfield time, but that price tag is enticing
I put Gulden's name in the "Search" above and found @wogitalia's comment on Gulden that might be helpful to you.

"Gulden - There's a case here but I'm not going to make it, I think he gets stuck on a wing with Rowbottom and Parker being limited to pure midfield roles and Warner and Mills just being better. I expect Papley still gets midfield time even if I don't understand it at all. That doesn't really leave anything for Gulden. He's so talented I still think he could push towards 95 anyway but without a genuine midfield role I don't see the 105, which is where I think the target line is this year with the options we've got."

I also found Herald Sun's Phantom's comment that is interesting.

Errol Gulden (Syd $472,000 Mid) Y/N?
"Gulden spent more time on a wing in 2022, floating back to play behind the ball, but recorded another three scores of 125 or more, among six KFC SuperCoach tons. Add to that scores of 139 and 136 in the first two games of his career a year earlier, and the scoring power – as a result of multiple avenues of scoring – is obvious. It goes back to his junior days, too, with Gulden posting scores of 168, 131 and 105 in his three NAB League games in his draft year and 245, 177 and 149 at the national under-16 carnival the previous season. In Round 20 against the Giants, Gulden tallied career-high disposals (33), metres gained (697), marks (12) and inside-50s (10), on his way to a season-high 131 points. He scored another KFC SuperCoach ton a week later, before finishing the year with 72 and 74. The floor is still low but consistency often comes with time, and a greater role, and Gulden’s importance to Sydney’s team is likely to only grow from here, given his footy IQ.

Phantom’s verdict - Yes: Even though he only just fits into the mid-price bracket, I’m all in – but you already knew that."
