If you had to choose 1 out of Tom Green or Coniglio who do you pick? GWS have a good run of games in the first 5-6 rounds and I'm thinking of picking only 1 of these players. I think they both are starting midfielders for GWS but I'm leaving towards Coniglio as I'm confident he will be a top 5 forward come seasons end (can have big scores) but I'm not as confident on Green being a top 10 midfielder. A penny for your thoughts?

What peoples thoughts on Bowes with the Cats? Why would you recruit a guy and pay him $600k to play in your twos? He obviously has some ability but where does he fit in with the reigning premiers side that only lost Selwood? He provides flexibility as can play anywhere, can score well as he did start of 2021 and if he was a lock for cats 22 he'd be a steal at $277k but I'm unsure if he is guaranteed a start each week in their best 22?

I think you got the gist, Cogs top 5 forward? yes, Green...... maybe will be a top 8 mid but also may not be (ran out of puff last season).
That means you'd have to trade Green out for a keeper mid which means you've used a trade on a hopeful speculative pick, rather than a solid keeper or a likely stepping stone to a solid keeper.
The stepping stone scores you decent points and makes money whilst the hopeful speculative pick might score decent points for awhile, but they won't make you much money, they won't be a top 8 mid which means they're not a keeper.
If you're lucky enough to start someone like Green, Warner, Newcombe, Serong, Cerra etc, and they become a keeper after you started them, then that's a huge leg up on the rest of the field. I think betting on fallen premiums (if the circumstances are most favourable) is preferrable to 'hoping someone will breakout'. Guys like Ziebell a few years ago when he started playing defence.

I guess we are comparing the $ 600k defenders to a M4 Brayshaw , Cripps , Steele price type or if people are willing to go Anderson/LDU/Green/Titch etc price type @ M4.
How deep we go in the mids will likely determine if we can start a $ 600k + defender or not.
Cumming/Daicos/Young or half a dozen others mentioned preseason could do the job @ D1.
Yeo @ D2 , few others similar priced could be possibilities , Bowes @ D3 will start getting popular.
Coffield seems popular.
People might not want to pay up for the JS of a Jones or Marchbank price type at D4-D5 and at this stage of the season are automatically drawn to cheap players on the bench , may just have to change their thinking and start paying a higher price for bench players.
But as always we will get the "don't worry rookies will appear" , be interesting one season if they don't and see how people adapt their starting teams/structures.
Might also be able to start a few F & M players that might get DPP added in Round 5 to be able to swing into defence as well.
Chesser , Constable + a couple of others already with DPP might have extra advantages.
Lots of possibilities.
Just need to wait for Round 1 teams and everything will fall into place , pointless worrying about it at this stage.

Bowes definitely put his hand up today.
Be interesting how he fits in alongside Duncan though, basically played one of the roles that he normally plays while Smith took another in Q3 and just their general depth was on show.
Definitely felt better about him being best 22 though and showing some ability up forward was a nice twist.
I'd rather not spend that much but if he can show some job security next week and back it up with performance then he'd become a much better option. Does hurt though to be paying that for a guy who is at best starting the season just inside the best 22. He can play though and the outside class is the one area they do lack a little bit at times so that's a bonus.

I have been thinking about the need to nail a few of our starting picks to end the season as one of the top scorers in their line. I am wondering who others think might be the players most likely to finish the season as D1-6, M1-8, R1-2 or F1-6 on total points?

If we're talking top of the line on points scored (not average) then I think you have to weight players who rarely miss games as much more of a chance than those who rarely, if ever, play a full season.
