Thanks Rowsus, I'm not really keen on trading Daisy, though not too sure about the Melbourne guys. Who knows what will happen to them.

What do u think about Jaench? Then i could trade Lemmens instead of Michie.
I already have Swallow and Suckling. Would getting another non premium be too mid pricer overkill?

Hey Rowsus,
I'm curious on your thoughts about Swallow vs. Birchall's 2013 start.. Looked irresistible early and a must trade.. then coaches worked him out and he didn't have the tricks to maintain it. With Swallow starting on fire do you think coaches will look to take him out more given Gaz is untaggable (unless you are melb and use 3 blokes to do it) or do the suns just have to many weapons for Swallow to be a priority?

Like many I'm needing to backline love to replace Hurn and he does seem an obvious candidate. I just remember last year looking at Birch around the same time but deciding he couldn't maintain the rage..

Cheers in advance!

Hi Rowsus

I, like a lot of other coaches have holes in the backline you could drive a Mack truck though. Hurn, Mitchell, Enright and another dud defender. On Perth news tonight Adam Simpson said Hurn would be 6 weeks and they expected back after the bye. That is too long to wait. Mitchell and Enright I can wait although if Mitchell is a calf that worries me. I am not convinced by the back premiums which is why I only had Mitchell. I already have Swallow.

I have $111 cash but do not wish to deplete it too much as it was part of my trading strategy later on. I also want to get rid of Rohan in the forward line.

I am considering Hurn to Hooker who has started well. Have am curious if Hooker has just started well or he has had a slight role change. I would then use the cash to upgrade Rohan to Caddy or Jackson Merrett. I am not convinced of Ambrose although I know he will go up in $. If Hooker goes on with it I keep him. If not I am happy to trade him up later.

Any thoughts or alternatives in the back line?????

I think Hooker has been fantastic this year and would be right up in our B&F. He has stitched up Petrie & Roughead in consecutive weeks but he is (most importantly) collecting possessions in our new keepings off based CHB gameplan. His contested marking is great as this adds to the cheap catches he takes in this gameplan too.

If I didn't have to correct Mitchie to Tyson, I'd be looking to bring him in, but am happy to wait and see how he's performing by the bye rounds instead ...

Hey Rowsus. Got a but of a problem. I've currently got Hurn, Mitchell, Fyfe, Laidler and B Martin in my team. I obviously need to out Hurn and one of Laidler or Martin but also want Tyson this week to capitalise on his BE. So, which option entices you?

1. Hurn to Swallow, Michie to Tyson. Leaving me very little cash to make changes next week, but obvious option

2. Hurn to Swallow, Fyfe to Tyson. Giving me cash to upgrade Martin and Laidler next week (but a 3-1-6 midfield)

3. Hurn to Swallow, Martin to Georgiou. Fixes a trade

Hi Rowsus,

I want to pick your brain with what's the best long term decision to make for my team.

This is my team:
Defenders: McVeigh, Mitchell, Hurn, Swallow, McDonald, Langdon, Langford, Clurey
Midfielders: Ablett, Pendlebury, Liberatore, Beams, Tyson, Polec, Ellis, Cunningham, Dunstan, Mitchie
Rucks: Ryder, Sandilands, Thurlow, Derickx
Forwards: Dangerfield, Martin, Roughhead, T Mitchell, Pavlich, Impey, JKH, L Taylor

My question is what two trades should I make?
I'm pretty happy with all my rookies except for Clurey (but I've been using him as my floating donut) and JKH (who has been disappointing for all)
Hurn is injured for 3-4 weeks, and Ryder & Mitchell could come back this week.

These are the players I want out:
1) Hurn
2) Ryder
3) Roughhead

These are the players I want in:
1) Zorko
2) Mumford

I am seriously considering ignoring my backline woes and making the ruck & forward trades based on the below:
Ryder scores a 90 this round he comes back - he's dropping $30,000
Mumford scores a 120 this round - he's increasing $50,000
Roughhead scores a 100 this round - he's dropping $22,000
Zorko scores a 100 this round - he's increasing $50,000

The way I look at it, I stand to gain $150,000 from these two trades, and I obtain the 2 best-in-form players who will be Top 6 for the rest of the season *barring injury*, AND will further increase in value in the next weeks.

Am I crazy for ignoring my backline?
Hi PB,
I have a simple question for you, did you believe Zorko would be top 6 before the season started? Obviously the answer is "no", as he isn't currently in your team. Now let's look at the assumption you make at the bottom of your question:

I obtain the 2 best-in-form players who will be Top 6 for the rest of the season *barring injury*
It's an interesting thing, human nature. The fact that he has scored so high above expectations in the first 2 games actually means both Mathematically, and Historically, he less likely to be in the top 6 for the rest of the season! Yet so many people are assuming he has arrived. It is possible he has, and he will continue on to be a fantastic pick. More likely though, a correction will come! It's very dangerous to adjust your expectations so much on the back of 2 games information.
As long as you are not facing a donut, there is no problem with ignoring your Def problems this week. Hurn's price won't be moving, so you can fix that next week.
I have both Pav and Roughie, and think they are worth persisting with, but if you have to pull the trigger, I'd ditch Pav before Roughie.
Good luck. :)

Hi Rowsus, .....
So, thanks for reading my aggressive strategy. Thoughts?

Hi Santoz,
I'd be a bit cautious about putting too many eggs in Currie's basket, or any of the Rookie Rucks, for that matter. There would appear to be too great of a chance that all 3 will miss one week, and if it happens earlier, rather than later, that spells wasted trades.

I can see nothing in Jænsch's history, that would suggest he can continue scoring in this manner. I'd avoid him.

For the most part, yes. Mid Pricers are for starting teams, once the season begins trades should be concentrated on fixing mistakes, reaping cash, and finishing your team. Trading in another Midpricer accomplishises none of these things.

I think there is very much a potential for a Birchall situation replaying itself here. If you rated Swallow as a 94 preseason, then he only averages 90.3 from here. My share trading articles demonstrated how dangerous it is to adjust your opinion by too much, particularly early in the season. He strikes me as being great for those that started him, but a potential trap for those that are thinking of getting him now.

Hi Man,
it's possible Hooker has had a change of role under a new Coach, but I'd prefer to think it's just a little hot streak. Not many 197cm backmen score consistently over 90.
There's not too many alternatives that won't eat into your kitty. Mays' scores look good, but they are on low possessions without goals, and are therefore a bit misleading on his true prospects I think. I keep recommending Melbourne Defenders (dunn or Terlich) to people as they are cheap, and get heaps of possessions under the new game plan, but no one wants them. Johson M from freo is a possibility, too. He is ultra consistent without too many large scores. He has finished just outside the top level the last couple of seasons.

Hey Rowsus,

Would greatly appreciate your advice.

I stuck fat last week and did not trade. My current team with 30 trades but just 3k in the bank is;

D - Mitchell, McVeigh, Enright, Suckling, Webster, McDonald - Langford, Georgiou
M - Ablett, Pendlebury, Boak, Beams, D. Thomas, Macrae, Aish, Ellis - Dunstan, Langdon
R - Cox, Sandilands - Thurlow, King
F - Dangerfield, Wingard, Roughead, Caddy, Rohan, L. Taylor - Impey, McDonough

I am always loathe to do sideways trades but with three factors in mind - my obvious weakness at F5, my distinct lack of cash and the injuries in the defence - it may necessitate the following. I believe with West Coast playing Sinclair as the third ruckman this is going to hurt Cox's scores, e.g.. last weekend. Can I justify his 578k price tag then? Therefore I am thinking of trading down to Mumford and pocketing 80k in cash. Mumford's averaged over 90 the last four years and looks to have a new lease on life at the Giants.

Defensively, it may look like Enright is going to miss a few. He definitely was picked as a keeper with the whole season in mind and the fact that he has picked up an ankle is disappointing to say the least. With the injury I'm thinking downgrading to Swallow. I know you've made you views clear on the positives and negatives of getting in Swallow. I think he will average between 95-100 this year which was pretty much what I was expecting from Enright. I'm expecting (hoping) Mitchell will be ok but can live with him missing another week given they go to Perth (or even two). I will keep Webster too as I think he will eventually do what I picked him for and get me 70's.

As a result of these sideways trades (they are slight downgrades i suppose), I will pick up 160k in much needed cash. I can then look at fixing that F5 problem a couple of weeks down the track.

Thanks heaps for your time. You're a gem for providing this thread.

I am sure you have read my opinion on him in the last few answers.
SC Gold says his B/E is -33, but I believe they have their B/E's wrong again this season, just like early last season. I think his B/E is closer to -16.
To calculate his potential price rise use this:

(score - B/E) x 440, so if you think he will score 100 this week, he should rise by about $51k.

Hey bloke,
you really need to decide this after seeing if Laidler and/or Martin and Mitchell get picked this week.
If we assume Mitchell does, but the other 2 don't I'd go with option 2, and get a fix going in your backline.
Good luck :)

Hey Rowsus
Out of Tyson, zorko, swallow, which 2 should i get in this week?
Tyson really fits into Melbourne's game plan, Im confident he will average 100 for the rest of the season. I think I can take the Tyson price rise, as the rookie i was planning to trade(aish) will increase in price as well, so the price rise cancels out to some extent. Swallow has a round 8 bye, so its a bit annoying. Both swallow and zorko have a relatively easy draw coming up until the byes.

Thanks

Hey stocks71,
if Enright is missing some weeks, I think you should consider Enright out, Langdon up, Polec/Tyson in. You seem to lacking enough cash makers in your team. This would free up even more cash, AND generate more cash to boot!
Good luck :)

Hey Pro,
I think Tyson needs to be taken this week, but I am not sure I'm happy to use Aish to get there. Have you considered keeping Aish, and using Fyfe to Tyson? It makes cash both ways. As to Zorko/Swallow, that really is a toss of the coin. Looking at your Def and Fwd lines, I would go Swallow.
Good luck :)

Hey Rowsus.

Just wondering you who think will be the top 15 (Pure) Midfielders for total points scored for the rest of the season?

And would it be worth trading Dale Thomas to Zorko in the midfield - seeing as I have a full complement of premiums (or hopefully premiums) in the forward line.
