Intra club against half their VFL side isnt exactly something I'm taking seriously, need to see full strength against opposition to get a proper read.
It's not about who they played against, it's about what position he played with both Cunnington and Simpkin on his team. You think Zurhaar will get 67% cbas when Simpkin returns?

Yep absolutely, but eye test wise there was nothing wrong with Phillips. Zurhaar took a huge amount of CBAs, as did Powell. So you’d expect both of them would see a reduction to an extent come the real stuff.

Powell and Zurhaar were reported to have spent the whole pre season as mids, isnt impossible that they just want to bat deeper this year, Clarko has never really been a guy to go light with his mid rotations.

Hes trained as a mid and played as a mid, it wont be that high but hell see significant mid time.

Carlton wasteful with the ball use first quarter, but kicked really well at goals. 2nd quarter Pies couldn't miss a set shot so probably evened out.
Glad it's a pre-season game, stressful otherwise
Not much to add for 2nd half.

Allan came on, looked ok. Hopefully Pies play their preferred 22 next week for a better indication.

Hollands came on, looked good. Acres/LOB are our wingers for Round 1, just depends if we play a 3rd specialist winger (Hollands) or just let Fisher/Cerra etc fill in the remaining wing time. Probably not great for Hollands anyway unless one of Acres/LOB are injured.

Motlop/Silvangi good chemistry. Cowan/Cincotta were both good... Not sure if either would get a Round 1 gig
(predicted defence;
B: Gov Weitering Newman
HB: Saad Young Doc
Bench: 1 of Marchbank/Plowman/Cowan/Cincotta)

I personally think we are too tall with Weitering/Young/Gov/Marchbank, so have been wanting Marchbank to be left out. There is a chance we play 2 of those four bench spots, with Doc roaming around the ground a bit (had some CBA's, had some shots at goal). I wouldn't be rushing to pick Cowan or Cincotta though at D7/D8, unless we don't get a few expected defender rookies etc.

I didn't see Titch in the 2nd half.. Hopefully he wasn't out there (surely!!)

Not much else to add, I feel better fading Nick Daicos but will see how everything looks next week for the Pies.

Means nothing who is the better forward if the coach thinks the guy is better suited to playing midfield.
I don't understand what you're worried about here, it's clear that he has been earmarked to play as a midfielder, Zurhaar is not going to be playing as as a 67% cba midfielder. Weren't you the one who didn't even pick Brodie last season because you thought he wasn't going to get midfield minutes in the season proper or even picked at all in their senior side? Apologies if it was someone else.

I just dont see what the hell your logic is, a new coach comes in and a guy does a whole pre season on ball and plays the role in their first pre season game, pretty clear indication they see him as a mid, being a good forward previously means nothing.

I watched about 20/25 mins of the Carl v Coll game

Didn’t see Titch, reading reports he was very quiet - no interest in him.

Cripps looked excellent, tempting.

Acres is a great recruit for the blues, last year he was superb on a wing for Freo & looking like he will continue on this year.

Daicos did some skilful things, he does look better in the back half - agree with others.

Hmmm interesting on Titch. If he playes as a perma-mid which i almost certaintly thought he would when we traded him in he's that much of a bal magnet i almost find it more unrealistic that he would average under 110 then over. He's also an ex-brownlow medalist whom i assume would not take a pre-season match sim game seriously at all.

North Melb.
Was also at the North V Rich game.

Thought Phillips game was really good. Clean, gathered heaps of clearances and attended most CBA’s, passed the eye test.

Sheezel was certainly exciting could see him trying to get involved and make things happen. North look far more competitive so far, role won’t be that bad and will avoid the sub vest.

Goater really stood out was intercepting and proving run apart from that turnover in the last.

LDU B.O.G for me could really see him breaking the game open. Was harder to not notice him than to. Missed a couple of goals but I don’t think I can leave him out based off this performance.

Didn’t pay too close attention to the Richmond players but;

Dusty looked dangerous despite playing as a deep forward.

Tarranto was generally clean and kicked a couple of goals.

Hopper attended most CBA’s was also clean and had a number of clearances.

It's hard to get a read on Mitchell. He's in 1 in 4 teams and theoretically a good pick, but we're yet to see how he fits in to McRae's style. With Green as a suitable alternative at that price point I think if he has a quiet outing against the Hawks he'll be dropped from a few teams.

Without Green in the picture his odds would be much better, as it would be Mitchell versus the LDU/Warner/Anderson crapshoot or a slide up to Kelly at $580k odd

Nice to watch footy all day!
Some super brief thoughts on some Tigers/North players:

LDU - :censored: (Already in my team, played too well, no more commentary please)
If there's any downside, he would've had at least 5FA today including some HTB against.

Phillips - Role good, no Simpkin/Cunnington today though. Wonder if he's better at M9 than M8

Goater - Some really eye catching stuff. He also marked 50m out and did the worst turnover that ended in an easy Richmond goal. I like him, good to see he is fit and played the whole game. Would rather Hall gets up for Round 1 so we at least know if they'd play both early or Goater would get dropped when Hall is fit.

Sheezel - As everyone said, so classy. Racked up a lot of the ball, wasn't too deep. I like him as a pick, just not sure if I'd want him on the field. Be a great loop option.

Comben - I'll be honest, him and CCJ often blend into one for me
The North talls in general were solid.

Taranto - Great role, kicked a few goals, ball use was pretty good too.

Hopper - As someone who didn't want to pick Hopper, his ball use inside 50 was something that really stood out to me (positively) and is probably enough for me to pick him now. Role clearly great, but he was probably 3rd for clearances behind Taranto/Prestia. I still think he'll put up a sub 70 Round 1 against the mighty Blues :p
