His role didn't change much for the last 2/3s of last season, 15 games from round 6 last season with >50% cbas at an average of 109, trained as a midfielder the whole preseason, Boak playing more forward, still only 23 years old, priced at 93, seems like a fair bit of value there. You could argue that JHF has come in and that's valid but Rozee still had minimum 50% cbas in their last game.

There is no guarantee that your $600k defenders will finish top 6 of their line either, Tom Stewart wasn't even in the top 20 defenders for overall points last season.
What happened to Rozee's score, when his CBAs went even higher than 50%, and pushed up into the 70% area?
From memory, his most consistent scoring came when he had a balance of CBAs and goals from Fwd time.

The games where he was around the 70% mark or over:

Round 6: 73% CBAS, 153 SC
Round 7: 69%, 87
Round 14: 78%, 103
Round 15: 80%, 113
Round 20: 67%, 119

Some of his other high scoring games:

Round 9: 59%, 116
Round 17: 56%, 154
Round 23: 56%, 162

Is in a pitched battle with Cowan
Could add Marchbank and Plowman to that list.

Carlton Defence
Saad,Weitering, Doch
McGovern, Young, Newman

7th defender - Marchbank/Plowman/Cincotta/Cowan

So only one real spot left.

Bit of talk Doch may play midfield don’t think he will now with Williams going down and if he does pitch hit won’t change the back setup much.

Hopefully this weeks game shows us more.

The role Liam Jones is playing - has this changed from his previous years?
The guy is 32, played 12 seasons and never a full season in that, in fact only played over 17 games in 3 seasons and his best season average of 77 was 5 years ago. As a starting option at $230k what makes him better than say a McKenna or Cole, Weddle, Coffield, Cowan, Chesser if selected? Selected obviously being the critical word here?

Sub being another word that should be inserted.

He's priced at 41 and really only needs to hit 70 to make him a worthwhile pick. Reckon his JS is well above all of those mentioned.

Would like to get thoughts on Harris Andrews. Seemed to me like he was the guy who was designated to deliver the ball to the prime movers from defence. The Lions have changed up their game plan with a definitive move in transitioning the ball with speed and precision from the backline, so there's a need to get the ball into the hands of Coleman, McKenna et al further up the ground to make this happen.

JS is great. At Carlton he alway made one bad mistake that almost always cost a goal and massively cost him in SC. Got to the point he wasn’t used as a switch option. If he can take that out of his game should be in the AA conversation with some pretty good scores.

Probably not a great game to judge him on, as North's delivery inside 50 was woeful.
The biggest difference between now, and his 65-70 seasons is he will be the main interceptor, in a stronger team. He won't have Weitering soaking up a lot of them. Today he shone at it, but you'd be worried if he didn't, with North's delivery. He will have his very poor scores, but he's more of a chance to post a 100-110 score than previously (161 games 147, 117 then 9 games 100-110). Averaging 1 per season, I can see him potentially posting 2 or 3 this season, and if they're close enough together, it could produce a decent cash spike. He potentially can spike to $380-$400k, but will probably sit more in the $330-$350k area. Has JS over a lot of others, but you wouldn't even talk about him if he didn't.

Geelong had no Hawkins or Cameron.

He's unvaccinated. He has the purest health of anyone playing.
