Surely doing anything more with McAndrew, other than waiting to see what is happening in at least Rnd 3's selections, is just being brazenly too risky.
If he's named round 1 then he's probably worth the punt, at 20k it would have to be making a pretty huge difference to your starting team to not take a potential cash cow over a guaranteed donut, especially if he was named over Ladhams (who seems to be in Horse's doghouse which is a very bad place to be).
I say this as someone who is not a fan of loopholes, I haven't done last year but almost certain it would be my 4th straight year of losing points from it so... I'd much rather an extra 150k, especially knowing I'll probably have a donut in round 2 anyway and again by round 5. Especially when the only thing it gives is captaincy anyway early.
Probably depends on definition of not sold.
Mclean - not sold on his scoring if he play deep forward again.
McKenna - not sure how to read into quiet game, defenders are hard to come by so if picked and given age and history you probably back him in,.
I'm not sold that either is worth the premium but if both are named round 1 I find it hard to not pick them.
McKenna - Had back to back seasons of 70+ last time he was fit and playing, so if he's there round one at the level he'll be selected I think it's more risky to not start him as he'd be one of the best rookies at that point. I do think you at least get the proven scoring history that's higher than most rookies can do for the premium. I'm not as sold on the JS, they're going to have several guys fighting for that spot and then trying to win it each week.
McLean - He also has scoring history, he's been basically 70+ in every season. Even if he can't do that and only gets to 65 he's making you 160k. The job security will be the question, has been right out of favour, even when fit, the last few years but he's a good player. If they're playing 4 talls though it's going to be harder as you're going to want genuine small forwards around them with elite speed of which he is neither. Ultimately, if he's there round 1 it indicates the job is his, he's got DPP and proven scoring history, also a defensive pick, he's probably an injury from playing midfield where he's got history at ~100 scoring which would be season ending if you didn't have him.
I can buy fading either/both but I think you're almost certainly taking more risk fading them than starting them and I'd say the reward is also higher on starting them. Realistically they are both good chances to make 150k and produce on-field level scoring, your worst case of starting them is you can turn them into basically any of the best rookies you've missed (couple could be to expensive) if they bust. Best case of not starting them is you're not having to trade them out and having a couple of better trades available at round 3, worst case is you've used two trades in round 3 already that ~90% of the comp wont have to.
