Just looked into this further, it appears Tim Mitchell missed a key word that Trac said .... "might" :-

I hardly think the dees are going to significantly reduce the amount of time the premier inside midfielder of the comp spends in there especially where one of their main KPIs is winning the stoppages & clearances to get them field position. Winning the ball & getting if fwd allows them to setup behind the ball making it very hard for the opposition to penetrate their defence with the likes of May/Lever/Gawn zoning off taking intercept marks.

Nothing to worry about regarding Oliver for mine.

Much prefer picking Chandler in that spot at the moment, job security far worse but should have alot better scoring potential, knows where the goals are and really pushes up the ground had 25 and 23 in the PF and GF for Casey.

As a Freo fan I want to see him succeed, but given who is currently out of the side, personally I dont see him as a best 18 player, sort of more in that 19-25th picked player. From the 26 players selected for tonight's game, Reidy, Johnson, Hamling, Amiss and one of Hughes/Banfield and probably Wilson drop out. Which leaves 20, then you need to fit in Walters, Frederick, Jackson, Luke Ryan and maybe NOD...so something else has to give.

For what it's worth, Sturt isnt currently in my starting team and unless he has an exceptional performance tonight, probably wont end up there either.

Geez I'm seeing a lot of MP's putting their hands up this pre season, looking at those guys that have changed teams, playing to their strengths, could be a repeat of last year.
If I get time (doubtful) I would like to go through every one of them and analyse exactly how they fit, points obviously because that leads to cash generation, but role change mainly.

It doesn't take very long to enter a team, and it is lock and load, so once your team is in, you don't need to touch it for the rest of the season. The link is in my signature.

Just playing around with fitting them into a side will help you work out if you want them in your main team or not. Possibly.

I've often had a bit of a loose rule that you should choose the best (usually most expensive but not always) player on each line. Starting to look like that may play out. Stewart / Doch (passing Sinclair), Laird, Gawn and Dunkley could easily happen.

Can't remember a year where pre-season games posed more questions than answers.

As we take in all available information, one thing that sticks out to me is the poor rookies which are available in the fwd line this year especially who to put in as F5/F6 on the field. In no particular order

1. McLean who had minimal CBA's - how is he supposed to go through the guts with Bont/Libba/Macrae/Treloar/Baz, etc, poor return at an elevated price tag?
2. Allen - will be up and down, think we've seen his floor
3. Sheezel - being trialed in multiple positions during pre-season, didn't he do rubbish the week before and look lost in HB? yet he somehow managed to scrape a 70 by doing well in the last 1/4. Pretty risky imo
4. Chandler - poor role and will have a low floor as well, no thanks
5. F Green - looked the goods but not sure i have the nads to put him on the field
6. Comben - the new relton?

(sorry thats a bit harsh)

Probably missed a few but point being is that i'm thinking we need to pay up for some mid pricers (likes of Bruhn, Flanders, etc) to round out F5/F6, not to mention that some of these fwd rookies might be sub risks.

Really difficult year to finalise teams imo

Similarly, King I'd expect to average more given the improvement at GC as well - but who knows.
And Ratagoleas numbers are as deep fwd switching into ruck not an intercept defender.

Allen seems the most likely to consistently score as he will show how good he is this year.
Rat fits my structure best with the ability to cover the ruck line when things go pear shaped.
