I see no need at this stage to start anyone but Yeo between 300-600k in the defense.

The options are just too strong by moving away from that area.

Ridley/Young/Daicos moved down to Bowes/Crozier allows moves like J.Kelly -> Laird/Oliver + Shezel -> Fyfe.

Ridley, J.Kelly, Shezel
V
Crozier, Laird, Fyfe

Is just a no brainer for mine.
Where do you have Yeo? D?

Sorry should’ve been clear in that I don’t rate anyone but Yeo highly enough 300-600k. I’d either want to pay for Doc, Dawson and/or Stewart or go cheap, don’t like the in between options.
Yeah, even before the official games last weekend I had pulled myself away from the Daicos/Young types; part of the reason I'm running Bont M1 is to be able to afford 2 $600k defenders and also have a beefy lower field and bench spot squad.

Ridley (100), J.Kelly (110), Shezel (75)

Crozier (75 - if he plays, named and not sub), Laird (120), Fyfe (80)

Funny how we look at things differently I have it 285 v 275 with the first option giving more points and JS

Not taking into account the perma-captain of Laird but doesn't seem like a no-brainer for me

That’s fair enough and I tend tend agree with you. Having said that, I currently have Ridley in my team and have been looking closely at Bailey Dale, but not sure if there is any need to go down that path.

Bailey Dale is an interesting one, I've been trying to work out if the Liam Jones inclusion is a good or bad thing for him, thoughts? You obviously think he has room for improvement or wouldn't be looking at him I guess. Are you not worried about his drop in numbers late last season correlating to Ed Richards rise in numbers?

I’m not sure about the impact which Jones might have on him, so I can’t give you anything there. However I’ve been comparing him to Stewart and thinking he is comparable and $40k cheaper. Stewart is capable of monster scores, but if you take them out of his 2022 average then his other games look similar to Dale. Also, Stewart doesn’t get any GMHBA games in the first couple of months and I think he tends to score better at home. Finally, Dale has better projected scores in the first few rounds and that appeals.
Having said that, Stewart feels like the safer pick and I’m not sure I would change unless I can find a use for the extra $40k

Truth be known, Dale is probably one of the most rock solid "get what you pay for" defenders. If you're looking for cash to achieve something else on another line, taking Dale ahead of Sicily, Stewart or Doch is not a bad move
His numbers do look pretty stable right up until the last few rounds last season, was wondering whether Richards being moved back had anything to do with it

Don’t think Jones will impact Dale much as Dale is not really an intercept maker. Richards is another story.

After watching the Lions Cats game, I'm a bit worried about McKenna. He looked fat and slow to me. I know the Cats have great forward pressure, but Mckenna of old would've had the speed to break away multiple times, but he kept getting caught.

I'm also not sure how the Lions backline is going to structure. I counted Andrews, Payne, Starcevich, Coleman, Rich, Rayner and McKenna in defense. That seems way too short and full of half backs to me. I feel like another tall needs to come in, which means either McKenna goes out, or 1-2 of the half backs push up the ground more. I'm interested in any thoughts from Lions fans or others in the know.

You and me both. I've been looking someone to upgrade Bowes to because I don't know he'll actually play, and sure enough if I don't raise enough cash to get to Stewart I can't find anyone else that I really want to start with.

It was an improvement over the first practice game, but yes - he didn't have the same burst I remember, and his disposal looked off. It's improving but he might well be a slow starter. I still expect him to be best 22 more likely than not, but I'm not as bullish as I was prior to the games.

I am reading that Richmond could give Tylar Young $102K Defender a debut. Scored 65 in the practice match 🤔
First I have heard of him, have we let him slip by us?

A quiet game and we might not see him again. Happy to watch.

Gibcus had a setback with infection after his hammy op, don’t think he’ll be back anytime soon, Tarrant struggling with a hip injury, and Miller seems to be out of favour.
Will get a few early games, but job security and therefore cash gen definitely a question.
