Yeah you’re holding Allen’s past numbers against him but on the other hand Flanders past numbers that are worse are not relevant cause he had a big pre season?
At least Allen has averaged over 70! If we are going to talk past scoring history.
Obv with JJK gone he’s got a great opportunity to get over 70 and that’s all we need.
I think what you're chasing from Allen is a couple of spike scores (early hopefully) like he did in 2020 when he averaged 78 eg:

My main worry with him though is that he'll now be getting the 1st or 2nd defender rather than the 3rd, even so, at his price point he doesn't need to pump out a 150 for a decent price spike.

Allen’s scores correlate with his goal kicking. If he can kick a minimum of 2 a game he should score close to 70

Still not overly happy no matter how I alter my structure, but this is where I'm sitting for now.
Touk a clear POD that I'm willing to take the risk on. Having the standalone bye definitely helps his case.

The only real difference betweem your side and mine is I have Ridley at D2 and Sheezel and no Taranto. I like it.

The Yeo and Jones D2/3 has me petrified.
Live on the edge mate 😜

Most will have Yeo so it’s Jones really that you need to believe in.

Most quality teams are going to have solid premium choices , the best mid price options & the best rookies - with so much info readily available on social media/ internet it is quite easy these days to put together a reasonably solid side without spending countless hours researching.
The real key is who you have in the D5/D6/M8/F5/F6 spots - having guys in those spots that you are confident in scoring well each week (60+) & keeping those low scores (30 or less, I recall picking some fwd pocket rookies scoring 20s in the F6 spot in previous years) off the ground. Essentially your team on the field is only as strong as the weakest player you pick. Obviously there needs to be a balance, need to pick some super premiums for VC/Capt choices but many teams I see splash their cash & get to those final few spots with little left so forced to pick a low price rookie with little chance of scoring well which hurts cash generation/ long term prospects for their team.
Just some friendly advice from someone who has played this game for a long time 👍

A lot of faith being put in one hit preseason wonders that were of zero interest 10 days ago.
Disagree, been on my radar since last year. Kid is a massive talent that put up huge numbers towards the end of his draft year. Racked up 35 possessions in his first game back from injury in the VFL last season. Watching him play it is uncanny the resemblance to Pendles at his age, kid has great evasion/vision/class.
Reckon he will push Ashcroft for the Rising Star this year, that’s how good I think he is 😉

I agree - but I also think this preseason has thrown up some furphy's/fools gold that could very easily be those 30//40 pt scores. It's hard to keep on the straight and narrow and just stick with the simple things like natural progression, opportunity in change of role/club or quality players returning from injury. Yeo I can fit into that category, but Jones even though it's a new club, looks the same role, maybe I'm wrong because I never really followed Carlton games.

Thee's always lots of opportunity and role changes in the preseason games and now it's separating the wheat from the chaff and unfortunately some of this won't be known until later in the week and some may only be for a week or two with other returning to teams, Bruhn/Bowes in that category and may only get one or two shots. McLean possibly the same. My head hurts, I wonder if a few beers will help me pick a quality starting squad.

Different reason now from then. Now the key forward. His not going to ruck or get around the ground as much. If he doesn’t kick goals his likely to score poorly and now he has the no 1 defender on him. I like him as an option at his price but stats from 3 years ago don’t support his rôle moving forward.

Quote Jones has had a year out of the game and is 32 now. On the decline

I don’t see an issue with that at all. The reason I’m picking him is because he has the best JS of all those around his price point. Gone very light in defence with him D3, so need that JS. Not expecting him to pump out 100s on the weekly but definitely think he averages at absolute worst 60, which I think is completely reasonable considering he isn’t a sub risk and has great JS. Also as shown in the pre season game, he can have that spike game. Should make 100k+ without a sweat which I see a success. Just my opinion
