Is Mackenzie to expensive to be sitting on the bench? Is it worth downgrading him to a chesser freeing up 60k?

Is everyone prepared for a scenario where both McKenna and Wilmot don't get selected - I'm not!
The good news is we've got all of Friday to figure most of these things out. Not many contentious spots are going to be locked out (maybe a Carlton def rookie) and there'll be plenty of time to assess the lay of the land.

If Hall doesn't get named Goater shoots right up my list though.

Yeah I think there's Hollands, Cowan, Young and Ryan that'll probably only be SC relevant.

There may also be Adelaide's Michalanney, Chesser still also an unknown due fitness, Goater, Cole, Wagner would be handy but doubtful - if I knew he was close not a bad FD this week, Gallagher and Cincotta sub maybe?????

Not a lot of options and could mean a reshuffle on other lines - who knows, but just something to think about I guess

I think I'd make them Chesser and Goater
If they're both not in come Thursday night then I'll probably try and pick up Cowan before the bounce and then decide on something like whether I go up to Liam Jones for the on field spot or try Goater on Saturday. Could be dependent on a Ryan vs Rat pick for R3 (or both for a swing set? yikes...) for some cash.

I haven't got Chesser at the moment, seems unlikely that he'll play all of the first 3 games based on what's coming from the coach, in which case you can use him as a downgrade when he bubbles.

I think Hollands is one of those "good option to have" type rookies. He could be very good in the right role if he performs or he could be playing reserves in week 2 if he doesn't. Agree with AT that LOB selection matters for short term scoring and Walsh is a possible death knell for him if he does have a good role. Very all or nothing rookie, I'd argue the perfect kind to have the flexibility to get to come round 3 but no real need to spend up to start, albeit there aren't a lot of other options that are cheaper and those that are, aren't better or should already be starting in other lines.
Pretty much makes him the perfect trade down for your most underperforming midfield midpricer, freeing up 150 - 200k in the process. Find 2 of those and your 3rd most underperforming mid pricer can become anyone in the comp.

I have had this concern that the def rookies might turn out less certain than the forward ones, albeit the forward options are $200K but at least we are more certain they will play.

The teams I am seeing on here typically are skewed to fielding rookies on field in defence. The other issue is the bench options potentially not being there in as many numbers as we thought which could suck D/M guys like Chesser onto our def bench and then we have a gap in the mid bench.

Wait and see I guess

Exactly

Seems to be between 8-12 , Allen and under that are being completely overlooked in favour of the midpricers.

I guess the thing about the $ 500k defenders is which one out of Cumming/Daicos/Ridley/Rioli/Young price type etc will actually work.

Aside from Yeo , not many in that price bracket are jumping out as must pick starting selections.

Mackenzie and Phillips dissappoint in the mids I guess we are all in the same boat.

Not sure how strong the Baker , Chesser/Constable/Davey bench will be either.

Not too many cheaper alternatives yet either.

Interesting times ahead.

I remember Dean Terlich from Demons was a star rookie back in 2013. I’m fairly sure the winner from that year (John Bruyn, Dimmawits) had him for majority of the season. Missed 1st game and then took his opportunity from 2nd game onwards. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Could put Palmer in the same category
