He was Carlton’s first pick in the draft at 11. He doesn’t sound too shabby with how Kevin Sheehan rated him pre draft (below), but Carlton supporters would have more of an idea what his early job security is like.

Date of Birth: 16/01/04; Height: 183cm; Weight: 71kg
Medium midfielder who used his elite aerobic capacity, work rate and footy nous to be a prolific ball winner for Victoria Country. Averaged 24 disposals (75% efficiency) and four tackles throughout the National Championships to earn All-Australian honours. Also shared his talents between Geelong Grammar, winning their best player award, and the Murray Bushrangers, where he averaged 24 disposals in five NAB League matches. Rounded off an impressive year with his elite endurance performance at the Draft Combine, where he ranked equal-first with a time of 5:54 for the 2km time trial. His brother Elijah won a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination with the Gold Coast Suns this year.

Absurdly fit wingman.
LOB beaten for the spot for now, will get to tear it up at VFL level to put pressure so Hollands will be a stand and deliver rookie. He's basically the kind who is either going to be really good or out of the side, imo. Basically it's a strong role to score decently and make plenty of cash but he has to hold it.
Would imagine that Walsh is a bit of a ticking time bomb as well assuming the rest of the midfield stays healthy then they likely will run Cerra/Walsh through that slot in their rotations.
If he plays well enough then you'd have to think that all of Motlop, Martin and Curnow are also disposable for Walsh when he's back.
He's not a bad rookie basically, awkward price to be trying to get into if he turns out to be must have though but I've not seen a lot of structures you'd be starting him in so hard to justify the premium.
It's kind of ironic given how allergic to contact Phillipou looked through the preseason!

How does everyone rate Cowan’s JS over McKenna’s. Thinking of going McKenna to Cowan and banking the $50k.
The fact that Cincotta hasn’t even been named as an emergency fills me with a bit more confidence in Cowan’s JS. Only defender in the emergencies is Plowman (could definitely push him out if he doesn’t perform). Also named on field over Newman, but make of that what you will.

Yep. 80+ ave for the first 8 weeks for Callaghan is possible given the early GWS schedule - they have a nice early draw.
If he can get 20/25% inside mid time also (Kingsley did mention wing & some time inside) then that certainly will help him get the 80+ average.

So it has some risk involved absolutely but he is an elite talent that I think can do it with his early draw & if given some inside mid mins.
With Hopper & Taranto gone, Ward moved to the fwd line, Ash to the backline & Leon out of the picture so can’t make bizarre moves, the GWS midfield mix has really changed.
It looks like Green/ Perryman( their defensive mid, run with player), Kelly & Cogs are the main 4 with O’Halloran & Callaghan having the odd stint in there as part of the rotation.
If he can get 20/25% inside mid time also (Kingsley did mention wing & some time inside) then that certainly will help him get the 80+ average.

You need to lose the idea of "must have" players. It's just a wrong way of thinking, especially with Rookies before Round 1!!!!
