Non Laird owners, should we be freeing up cash to go early on Laird seeing as, in recent history, he just doesn't have outlier games like this at all?

Over the first few price cycles, we're likely not going to get a better opportunity to grab him as cheap as we are going to get this season.

Thinking Bruhn to Phillips via DPP frees up 150k for the Laird slush fund.
That's what I'm planning definitely. Want him in my side no later than round 5 and hopefully sooner. He'll have to have another lowish game (even low 100s) and he'll lose a ton of cash.

Yep. And Kozzie is shaping as a mid price must have when he returns too. Nit sure how I can get him in at all, let alone while Laird (and maybe Clarry) are on the cheap

@Russty_ & anyone who saw the Saints v Freo game, how did Liam Stocker look/play?

Just seeing if he is a viable option if Liam Jones is out especially with Webster now injured also so I assume his spot in the backline would be reasonably secure for now?
It's a hard game to take a lot from in my opinion. Saints flooded back and waited then went forward hard and fast. Freo were abysmal by not doing anything different to try and counter that (slow play even 3 goals down with 4 minutes to go). I doubt Saints get a side so poorly coached that they just did the same thing for 120 minutes.
Having said that, I thought Stocker was OK.

Unfortunately if he bounces back straight away the one bad score won't make much difference to his price. And if he doesn't, he's a wait and see at his age. Won't be moving mountains to get him early myself.

NFI what to do, but it will involve three trades. I knew I was underdone, but this was ridiculous. I think I want to downsize Stewart price-wise and use the cash on other problems. PLease help. View attachment 54297
Apart from wearing the Stewart injury (which was just bad luck and is easily fixed) you've got nothing to complain about I reckon, I'd be happy to be in your position right now.

Just sayin'

What do we need to see from Ashcroft this week? High priced. Obviously we reckon he's going to be a gun, and would be expected to get to 350 or 400k at some point this season. But if he puts out another 50 will people consider moving him on to maximise cash gen?

(Entirely expect him to put out an 80 this week and it will sound stupid, but am planning my trades across 2 weeks at the moment, and can't discount him putting up a stinker in my planning of all contingencies....)

With break evens of 206 and 226 (projected scores around 110) he will definitely still be losing cash, but the big worry for mine is Port in round 3 who look like they might be up and about - I know it's just one game but they certainly made a mess of a highly touted Brisbane midfield that's for sure.

Another sub-100 from Laird score against Port in a heavy loss will see his price nose dive after rounds 3-4 (needs to average 110 over the next two just to limit the initial price drop to 55k). So we'd potentially be rolling the dice on him putting up a massive ton against the Tigers, which I'm guessing is unlikely especially if the Crows pull up a bit rough in general from Sunday's game.

Again I'd expect Laird's scoring to recover and still be a top 8 mid by year's end, but the 50 he's thrown up first game and the upcoming showdown game in round 3 present some significant price drop risk, which I'm not sure is being given due weight at the moment.

Laird is not in your team to make money. He’s there to score points.

The damage of the 50 is already done. The only thing that matters now is what he scores from here. You’re not planning to trade him out, so his price only matters to people who don’t have him.

For real??? People are trading out the highest rated rookie who is playing midfield after 1 game where he scored below expectations?

My goodness, surely a kid as talented as him with his SC scoring history as a junior is worth giving a few more weeks before deciding. He is a looooong way down my list of guys that I might trade I can assure you :p

That's not necessarily true, throw in another lower than expected score in round three and the damage of that 50 will more pronounced in the initial drop after round 3 (the current BR's and 5kk price drop are based on averaging 110 over the next two games). It looks like there is a danger game with the showdown coming in round 3 and a sub-100 score in a bad loss there will mean his drop in price over rounds 3-4 will be sharper.

You probably wouldn't shift him in isolation, but if you have a shaky mid-pricer and Laird who you could potentially turn into two premos now with a view to getting Laird back in around 5-6 with your first lot of mooing cash cows when he's back to normal / price is lower then it's definitely worth looking at imo.

He looked ok in the first half, not as prolific as you'd hope but the Lions midfield was already copping a spanking from the Port mids which just wasn't showing up on the scoreboard. That turned into a total obliteration of the Lions midfield in the second half where they basically couldn't get anything right so I'm not faulting Ashcroft for that.

Still a lock for mine, did enough nice things to show he'll score well in most games and already has a strong enough stoppage game and finishing skills to impact on games in the way SC analysts tend to gravitate towards.

Has to be madness i scored 1870 this week i would be trying to trade out half my team. Have you seen the leaders team. They have jack crisp at M1, it looks like an autofill team that fluked it. Could be playing SC since 2006 and you couldn’t put together a team that would of scored in the top 1000. I believe the top 1000 are auto filled…..

If I was to trade Laird after a poor game next week it would be to Miller, Macrae. But in the end I agree with Zag. He is there for points not to make money. Good luck to those who jump on later as a bargain. Other premium bargains will happen after a 70 or so from Neale. It’s the C on Laird that really hurts we owners.

To be clear, I was throwing a hypothetical.

Ie, with a 55, if he threw in a 40 next week, would his breakeven look bad enough that you might consider it? What about 60? What about if he was used as the sun, came in late and scored 30? It was purely a hypothetical to work out if it was a situation that might even become a thing, and I was in no way suggesting trading him this week. Or even next week.

What mythical well performing on field rookie would you trade him to?
