What about the rest of us who played sub VFL level? We all took our cue from the VFL

Those VFA boys certainly didn't muck around in the physicality stakes. Let alone the Footscray District League or the Ballarat League, to name a few.

The VFL was well taken care of in comparison, by a long way.

They are definitely only going after the entities which have money. It's not justice for all.

And as I understand it (happy to be corrected) in a number of these legal cases the club is not being sued. In other words the entity that had direct control over the circumstances of a person playing or not and the decisions about the medical care that was to be provided is not a party to the action. I recall one of the players involved saying that he did not want to take action against the club he played for and won premierships with. In other words I still want to be welcome at my club and be feted for being a premiership player even though they oversaw directly the problem I now have. A lot of legal cases the lawyers say sue everyone involved so you get the maximum coverage. I know the AFL oversee the clubs and is the ultimate head body. But as has been noted already. It is all about the money and the AFL has the most.

And you are right about the sub AFL/VFL level. It is not justice for all.

Of those involved in the class action suit, how many players debuted between the earliest and latest to debut involved in the suit and thus what percentage of those involved in the suit are representative of that sample population?

Nope, as usual, human greed. Whether rightly or wrongly most, if not everyone wants more of something.
Why should they kiss the ground the club walks on and be forever in their debt for allowing them the opportunity to play at the highest level for fear of being blacklisted due to their negligence and possibly medical incapication preventing them to earn an income post football?

Are the players classified as employees or independent contractors?

It shouldnt matter.

Just lucky no major damage. Does it take a fracture skull or broken jaw.??

Cannot deny the intent to hurt was there.

2 weeks is a joke.......
Can not agree more. In a perfect world you'd judge only the action but you can understand with how emotional people get around this sport that the fervour for punishment is greater when your side is actively disadvantaged by losing a player. I think the AFL as an organisation has to be above that though.

I think this is the crux of the answer as to who is being sued. The AFL is the body who owns the league, the clubs are probably just like share holders? The league sets the wages through the salary cap. The clubs earn a revenue from memberships, merc, etc but are also paid by the league.
It's ironic, because the club would've been the body pressuring them to play when they weren't quite right, not the AFL.
Technically right, but the AFL is the responsible party in a legal sense to ensure the safety of the players. They are the custodians of the game.
Idk but the money comes from the top, the rules and laws governing everything come from the top. And why insult the club you played for?
