I hope I stop doing anymore bonehead moves.

I had planned for last week to bring in N.Daicos and S.Coniglio, but I had a last minute change and outsmarted myself, I bruoght in F. Callaghan and S.Coniglio.

The learning is if you have a plan and don't need to change it then stick to it.

My ranking went from 18k to 57k after a 2,010 in round to

Current team:

Docherty, Cumming, Ridley, Gibney, McKenna, Constable (Cowan, Wilmot)
Bontempelli, Petracca, Horne-Francis, Hopper, Worpel, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie (Chesser, Bytel, Baker)
Darcy, Marshall (Madden)
Dunkley, Gulden, Taranto, Rozee, Bruhn, Sheezel (Phillipou, Rategulea)

Playing a straight bat is not going to get me anywhere and I need points on field.

Planned Trades:

Ridley, Chesser, Bruhn -> Dacios, Setterfield, Ziebell

Means I miss Chandler and Hollands, but if I don't make some points back, the season will be over.

Any further thoughts?
They are three good ins - Ziebell a potential keeper and Setterfield should make good cash as a stepping stone - in a similar position wondering should I prioritise the rookies I don’t have but those three ins are very tempting.

Cogs will still be a good pick and Callaghan should play, has been cleared of any major injury I think. Can always get Daicos this week.

Which of the following options

1)
Goater -> N.Daicos
Macrae -> Setterfield
Chesser -> Chandler (via Davey)

70k in Bank

Leaves me with (Doc, Ridley, Daicos / Oliver, Bont, Green / Darcy, Marshall / Dunkley, Rozee, Taranto, Cameron as premiums)

2)
Ridley -> Daicos
Macrae -> LDU
Chesser -> Chandler (via Davey)

180k in Bank

Leaves me with the same as above but replace Ridley premium with LDU premium.

3)
Ridley -> Daicos
Darcy -> English
Chesser -> Chandler (Via Davey)

60k in Bank.

Leaves me with same as option 2 but English + Macrae instead of Darcy + LDU for this week.

Would look to get LDU in the following week if I did option 1 or 3.

I think I like option 1 from that group. I’m trading in the same 3 players this week myself. Ridley has saints this week and defenders have been scoring decent against them so maybe hold him and see what his role looks like this week, also note it’s worth watching the severity of BZT injury.

I managed to get lucky with starting LDU, but I’d be a little cautious trading him in these next few weeks, I’m expecting a tag these next 2 weeks with Maginness and Curnow, who are both 2 of the better taggers and runners in the league, then he has Brisbane after that who have a very strong midfield. I still think he will be a top 10 mid this year, but not expecting him to set the world on fire like he’s started the season over these next couple of weeks

Darcy > DCam
Esava > Worpel

Leaves me with 5k itb.

Fortunately/Unfortunately I don't have any other bust picks this year, so no avenue to Setterfield or Ziebell.

Now just tossing up if it's worth using a boost to go Docherty > Daicos, it just feels so wrong, I've always been GnR player, so trading a bloke out that hasn't even been going poorly is very foreign to me.
But I think that's just how the game is now that we have extra trades and boosts available.
It would make it very easy to get Bowes next week if required...

So with this side I'm thinking my first locked in trade is Steele to Daicos. For the second, Goater/Bytel (if he isn't named) up to Setterfield seems appropriate. As for the third, I'm thinking one of Greene/Comben for Chandler, but I'm unsure if that's a waste or which to trade out (Chesser is the other option, but I don't like how it unbalances the side, and Chesser might be useful handcuffed to Ginbey.

I only managed 2,008 last round after losing Gawn and failing to loop to Laird, captaining Green's 106. I'm starting round 3 ranked 79,805 with $166.8k in the bank and I'm in a good position to go aggressive while still maintain solid cash flow (barring injuries/abysmal performances).

Here's my team pre-trades:
View attachment 54735

If only I could make 4 corrections this round... I've toyed with the following options:

Option A:
Chesser $123.9k > N. Daicos $502.5k
Flanders $256.3k > K. Chandler $123.9k
Gawn $622.1k > D. Cameron $465.9k

Salary before trades: $1,169,100
Salary after: $200.7k

Option B:
Chesser $123.9k > N. Daicos $502.5k
Fyfe $313.6k > K. Chandler $123.9k
Gawn $622.1k > D. Cameron $465.9k

Salary before trades: $1,226,400
Salary after: $134.1k

Option C:
Docherty $603.6k > N. Daicos $502.5k
Gawn $622.1k > D. Cameron $465.9k
Flanders $256.3k

Salary before trades: $1,648,800
Salary after: $680.4k

Flanders > Ziebell $356.4k | Leaves = $324k
Flanders > Coniglio $557.7k | Leaves = $122.7k

Option D:
Docherty $603.6k > N. Daicos $502.5k
Gawn $622.1k > D. Cameron $465.9k
Callaghan $244k > Setterfield $348.2k

Salary before trades: $1,636,500
Salary after: $319.9k

I've decided to go Option D. Had to go sideways on Doch to bring in Naicos and unfortunately miss out on Ziebell, LDU and Chandler's $$$. Going into round 3 with this team, if all my players hit their projected score outputs - wish me luck - I'm looking at going into round 4 with approximately $956.4k in the bank
You can get LDU and Daicos without trading Doc though.

Try:
Gawn > Cameron
Neale > LDU
Flanders > Daicos via Davey and Chesser

You are losing Neale instead of Doc but you are getting LDU instead of Setterfield and not going into round 4 with 900k in the bank (which is a lot of money to have not doing you any good for a week or however long it takes you to spend it. Especially early in the year)

Having said that.... Your midfield is pretty bloody strong already, with Hollands as your first sub offering you maybe 70. Do you need LDU right now? My focus would be on those forwards. Fyfe, Flanders, Greene and Comben are not looking like doing you any favours. Really, they are looking more like boat anchors at the moment.

Your issue down back is Chesser but he's on the bench so isn't urgent. Your mids are fine. You have a ruck to fix. You are leaking points up forward and have two dodgy bench options likely to make you nothing really slowly. On bench so they aren't critical but there is a rookie on offer in Chandler that should sort you out the cash faster. You've got 166k bank and at a glance, all the good rookies but Chandler.

I'd say your first priority is Gawn, then your 2nd and 3rd priorities are forwards.

So Gawn > Cameron leaves about 320k
Flanders/Fyfe > Ziebell leaves either 280k or 220k
Greene/Comben > Chandler sideways

This way you fix your ruck injury and you halve the Fyfe/Flanders problem. If one of them is missing, you can either trade them for the cash boost this round from the other, or even trade the selected player so you can loop your forward bench because you kinda need to. It' really weak. Either way, Chandler projects as being a tidy F6 for you in the opening rounds. You should have only 220 - 280k doing waiting for the next round where you can look at correcting Fyfe/Flanders into Bowes maybe or I dunno, there's another couple like Croxier who missed round 1 and you get to take a look at. Don't forget Kozzy will be back for round 4 with a round 5 trade in maybe on the cards.

The issue is that you miss the big shiny player this week in LDU, Daicos and Setterfield. But face it, you were missing 1 of them anyway because of Gawn and, because you were swapping Doc for Daics and because your onfield midfield is already full, the benefit from bringing in LDU or Setterfield is marginal. You can't afford LDU without losing another premium and fielding Setterfield over Hollands/Mackenzie should only be in the order of 20 - 40 points for an extra 200k spent. I think that ZB offers significantly better prospect of returns than Flanders/Fyfe fo not much more coin and Greene/Comben > Chandler is a no-brainer.

HTH. Yours is a good puzzle. Gawn getting hurt has made me thankful I did the boost in round 1. I haven't had any injuries to worry about in round 2 (maybe Hopper) but had I have not boosted in round 1 and copped an injury in round 2 it would have stuffed me right up. Not liking being down to 30 trades already though :D

With so many 'new' toys available, I'm having to choose my favourite 3 to buy, hopefully I don't get bored with them too soon like the JHF experience last round!

As I'm going for my favourite trio which best serve the makeup of my team, I have to trade in something in order to attain this. I had hoped that Freoshaw would fire out of the block based on their early fixture but alas him and his teammates are still stuck on the starting grid so I'm not carrying any passenger forward at this point.

OUTs: Freoshaw, Chesser & Jones
INs: Daicos, Ziebell & Cox

The first 2 trades are pretty self explanatory. Watching Jones in the opening 2 rounds is like waiting for a bomb to go off, early injury sub R1 and early concussion test R2. I don't want to have to make that '3rd strike and you're out' decision later on so boosting him up to Cox.

I feel that Jones will score okay and make money in that role IF he stays on the park. However, Cox gives me an upgrade on that without the fear factor plus being at a higher base makes leapfrogging to a FPs easier when the opportunity arise.

DO you know the worst thing about my team and everyone else's team after this week?

We could have all started with these teams, not like in my case were I have already used heaps of trades to get here 😥

There really is a need for need extra preseason games to get the information we need to put together a team.

Extra preseason games could help, but can we really trust preseason games? AFL Coaches experiment players in different positions and mature aged players only go through the motions.
Choosing players from my large stable mainly relied on luck, as I had many 'ifs' on players and I had no answers.

Nice pod over Daicos.
Have been thinking about it but if they start winning he may not see as much of it.
I am looking to replace Dale so it kind of feels like I may end up with another failure. 🤷‍♂️
Probably the most dangerous POD to go against so far this season, id be looking elsewhere for a POD personally..

Is it worth going for Worpel over Setterfield if it allows me to go Ridley to Daicos next week?
Something to be mindful of as the Hawks try different things after they get smashed week on week is that Worpels CBA% already changed from high 70's to the 50's from round one to two even though he scored similar SC wise.
As an owner it's something I am watching.

It is hard to see Worpel spending any extended time outside of the CBAs this season to be honest.

The kids in there will get eaten alive.
