Great post.

I think it's important to look back at past seasons and see what players scored in the first 2-3 rounds v what they ended up producing for the whole season. It's always tempting to want to put a bullet in someone who's given you two meh scores without looking at their role, team, history etc.

One of the key threads that brought me to this site was @Rowsus statistical analysis of scoring history v scoring projections. Unless there are any fundamental changes to a player's role, injury concerns or just general decline, two or three meh scores should be seen as a reason to hold a player. You've actually gotta tell yourself "Good, now he's got those scores out of his system!".

In my case, I've got Andrew Brayshaw and his start to the season has been underwhelming. While I have thought about sidewaysing him to LDU or finding the cash to get him to Oliver, I think you gotta back in your premo choices. You pick them for 23 rounds and unless there's a fundamental change impacting their scoring ability, you ride it out on the basis that statistically speaking, he should deliver a higher proportion of better scores from here (all things being equal). For me he ticked all the boxes in the preseason and still does. The fact that Oliver has scored 135 and 136, doesn't mean he'll continue to do that. He scored 113 in the first round and is going to have other scores like that or below. They'll just come at different times.

Tinker with the mid-pricers and rookies. That's the beauty of selecting those speculative picks. Let your premos do what you bought them to do.
Yeap that's why Bont gets the VC this week.

Oh, sorry to hear that but I fully concur.

Lost everything in the floods
Partner couldn't handle it and cleared off
Lost my job because it was too much work for 1 bloke after I'd put in 84hrs/week for the last 5 months for $650/week pay

Not saying any of this for a sympathy grab but the distraction of playing SC and being involved with this forum is a great escape, pity my SC team is another failure LOL
Sorry to hear this OTP - life is definitely cruel sometimes and very few know some of the hardships many are battling behind the profiles of posters.

Some odd posts here over the last few days.

Over the last 3 days I’ve had 2 pieces of real life news which will change my life in a “negative” or sideways way that I just couldn’t imagine last week.

I am still playing these games and joining these chats because they are fun, and distract me in a positive way.

Keep it nice people, it’s only a game.
Sorry to hear and I hope you're doing as well as you can be, mate.

We, as a Leadership Group, are only a PM away, and that goes for everybody on here.

The Darcy example demonstrates exactly why having more trades can be detrimental. Obviously his round 2 game was as putrid as they come but those that held tight would have enjoyed the 132 last week. Maybe rounds 1 and 2 will be his two lowest scores for the year. Statistically, that is more likely than it being representative of how is going to go for the rest of the season.
So ya like stats do ya

No ruckman scoring 2300+ has gone under 50 in Rd 1 or 2.

Of ruckmen at Darcy's price point who have failed to ton up in the first two rounds, only one has gone on to give a decent return (Gawn in 2016 who went 118.5). The others (Roughead, McEvoy, ROB, Witts, Goldstein, Ryder, English, Cox, Jacobs and Ryder) failed to return a 100 average for the year.

Those who held tight on Gawn in 2016 after 95 and 85 would have enjoyed his 172 in Rd 3. But by the same token, those who held tight on Witts in 2020 after 50 and 77 would have enjoyed his 147 in Rd 3. Witts went on to average 93.4.

So those who traded Darcy after Rd 2 were playing the percentages and I don't think his Rd 3 132 necessarily renders that decision incorrect.

Anyhoo. Hoping Darcy does well from here on out to vindicate those who held. For what it's worth he's the same age as Gawn in 2016 so let's see if he can replicate the season that made Max a SC god

Sorry to hear about your daughter, anorexia is one of the most invidious conditions that affect young girls, I've dealt with 4 girls (and 4 boys), the youngest is 17, I remember having to carry her from the front yard of the Primary school when she was 7yo, collapsed because she refused to eat and the Principal called child services on us. Sounds like your daughter has great support from her parents and don't be reluctant on reaching out for professional support, none of us have been trained in how to deal with things like this.

We have a pretty good team here in Darwin so we're fortunate, but it's hard and exhausting living with tears in yr eyes 24/7 watching a loved one go through something they have no control over. But you just keep battling and hope for the best.

We all have our challenges, that's one thing I've learned to appreciate and empathise with in my later years.

For those like me who were a little puzzled by Docherty's score :-

Docherty’s 39 touches were made up of 12 effective kicks, 12 effective handballs, five ineffective kicks, five clanger kicks, three ineffective handballs and two clanger handballs. Each of those ineffective disposals is worth zero points and he lost points for the clanger disposals. Of his 11 disposals in the final quarter, only three were effective.
Doch disposals have been bad all three games. His first game scored well but it was more luck that the ball didn’t go directly to the opposition. Every time he got the ball I would hold my breath even simple handballs were going to players feet.

I got Doch and will keep him as surely you can’t suddenly forget how to kick and handball, big scores coming.

I hear ya, mental health issues with your children just break your heart.

I had to have my eldest son forcibly admitted to the Alfred Hospital Phsych unit, broke my heart to see him with his stuff all packed up when I came to visit and saying to me 'thank god you're here Dad, please get me out of here'

I had to say 'no'

Smart lil ****er then rewired the security system so he could escape.

My only advice is 'stay strong'

I was just trying to offer some balance - but I'm quickly learning this forum doesn't respond well to anything that challenges the "groupthink" (y)
Balanced replies are one thing…just need to be tactful sometimes, I’m sure we have all been that way.
I for one think there has been some rotten luck this year with injuries, that’s not to say its impacted others in that way.

Yeah I am just not really seeing much of that in here lately.

For instance, someone suggested an aggressive leftfield move of trading Bont to Oliver in the trades thread and instead of generating any discussion about the merits of such a move, was just dismissed as a troll.

It's a shame because the depth of analysis and contrasting views in here was awesome a few years ago.
Agree with you there Monty that was me who posted that and for some reason Eagling had a crack at me….his post actually made no sense at all but that’s cool, I won’t offer any advice on his posts or those whom just like to argue or call the wall that is painted blue “black” for the sake of it…

My now 19 year old grandson went though anorexia/bulimia and anxiety for a couple of years when he was 16. Tall, good looking lad 189cm, got down to some ridiculously low weight. He was hospitalised twice to try and get things stable. He seems to have come though it now, but is still under-weight for his height. We don't think he's totally out of the woods yet, but he has certainly moved in the right direction the past 6 to 8 months. A very scary time, when you know there's not much you can do, but be there for them, without crowding them. It would be great if there was something you knew that worked, but every case and child is different. My positive thoughts, and hope for a good outcome, are there for you all @NT.Thunder, @OnTopBar, @jaca
