Bump to avoid a post masters let down.
weird to have an "elevated event" the week after the masters. Completely conflicted in roster selection. Do I leave off Rahm, or just roll with the good form? How do we deal with Speith (excluding that he's a never again!) Shooting 66 in the final round, but declaring himself exhausted in the press conferences this week ....m much to contemplate

Apparently it's "compulsory". Rory not playing means he'll cop a fine or something. Not the way to keep your stars happy you'd thing. ..
Anyway agreed Spieth is in form, but I have decided to pass on him due to the "exhausted" line Have taken a bunch of the top guys though...and they're all probably similarly exhausted.

I hadn't heard anything about this 'elevated events' or 'you must play' thing on the PGA Tour but I don't think it'll be too well received, if anything it'll push diehard Tour players towards LIV Golf because that tour affords the players much more time to spend with their families, and a lot more money.
I found it quite sad to see all those LIV Golf players at the Masters in that we haven't been able to see them play for so long and you miss seeing them at PGA tour events.
I can't help wondering if the PGA Tour Commissioner hadn't just said to them, yeah go do what you want with LIV and grab the big money and you can still stay a member of the PGA Tour and play whatever events you qualify for, if a lot of the LIV defectors wouldn't have just gravitated back to the PGA Tour anyway. I mean really!, how much money do these guys really need?
Most of them, even if they have hardly won any tournaments, have still got a net worth of 20 million or more.

Yeah the Masters reminded us what we were actually missing.
I listened to a bunch of podcasts in the weeks leading up to the Masters, and the constant theme was about "The Big 3" [Sheffler, Rahm, McIlroy]. i couldn't help but think Cam Smith was the best golfer in the world when he signed, and now was barely a footnote in discussions. Then Koepka reminded them why he had been the best in the world for a while. Then Mickleson, who had been one of the biggest crowd favourites in the game shots 65 on sunday at the Masters to post a score in the clubhouse, and the crowd give him the golf clap. So much of the value of "golf" has been destroyed, just to "protect" the PGA tour. I'm with you that if they just said "yeah, take the LIV guys money, we don't care" that it would just have petered out as an exhibition series, because what it can't create is history. And golf really cares about history.

Agree with all of this mate, but unfortunately, golfers really care about money too, like Cam Smith already was worth 40 million or so before he signed with LIV, for 140 million, yeah ok so now he has 180 million bucks, but isn't 40 million enough? He said he did it for his "family" but I'm sure his whole family was pretty ok before he did that and still would be in 30 years time if he hadn't signed with LIV. If it was just to be able to spend more time with his family?...I can understand that because the PGA tour forces players to play enough tournaments to qualify for the top 125 or whatever, to have a chance at the Fedex Cup, but there's plenty of players on the PGA Tour who don't even make the fedex cup playo***, who are still rich. As long as they do enough to keep their card, they can still be rich and be a rather mediocre player.
I'm thinking the guys who went to LIV are just thinking, yeah we'll take the money (very big money) even it though it comes from questionable sources, because I've paid my dues, and don't want to have to play as much for the PGA Tour Headmaster who wants to set all the rules.
I think ultimately the two might merge or all will be forgiven by the PGA Tour commissioner...for the sake of the almighty American Dollar., and for seeing all our favourite players able to play in the same events again.

The questionable sources stuff is an absolute rewriting of history from the other tours, who have all been happy to take Saudi money for ever. No doubt the Saudis have a terrible record on human rights and are super dodgy, but the Liv guys demonstrated their complete lack of world vision by not having a clear rebuttal to all that "taking tainted money stuff". With a minimal bit of effort they could have come up with an argument about the PGA Tour and the European Tour taking Saudi money on the following occasions .... X, y and z. Then a whole bit about the US government not having any sanctions in the Saudi regime and being happy to sell arms to the Saudis, so the US government, and by extension the US people have no problem with taking Saudi money, so why should individual X be held to a different standard, etc etc.
But instead Norman says "they're not that bad" or whatever he said (making it an argument around whether they're bad or not) and Mickelson says "they're bad mother's".
If Mickelson had come out an had a tell all "look, I have huge gambling debts, I've made plenty of mistakes, I have a problem, and I needed the money", which seems to have been the truth, then I doubt it becomes what it has, and he still would have received some support at Augusta as it could have been a case of "I have had to take the money, but this is my chance to play a big US event and I can't wait to test my game"
